Conservative Bible Project Cuts Out Liberal Passages

"Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" - secret behind that passage: nothing of theirs belonged to Caesar. :D

That's an extremely recent political fiction. It sure doesn't reach back to Jesus's day. It barely reached back to Reagan's day.

Well, it's totally asinine to try and pin down the "political" beliefs of Christ, especially in a modern context. Anyone that says "Jesus was a socialist" is a damned moron.

And yet his life and teachings are consistent with that and nothing is consistent with what the conservatives want to beleive about him. It's not an accident that some conservatives want to rewrite him to fill their needs. They've been doing it for centuries. This is just the most blatant of a long history.

Once this project is complete they will move on to re-mastering all art containing images of Jesus with dirty long hair like a devious prevert, and bestow him instead with a wholesome, patriotic crew cut.

I'm quite surprised the Bible has anything liberal in it!

Are they gonna get rid of the bit where Jesus hands out loaves and fishes to freeloaders?

Their treatment of Bible is very liberal is the wrong sense of the word.

Well he was a carpenter for a bit at least but then kind of dropped out and became a bum I think.

you couldnt call him a marxist, but i think we can safely talk about "socialists" in that time and place.

whether the jesus depicted in the bible was one or not, i neither know nor care though.

It's the Conservapedia version of the Bible. I guess it was inevitable. Expect any other text that contains "truth" to be Conservatized in the future, I suppose.

And why is conservapedia.com unreachable from my office today?

When I wrote the above, I didn't realize that this was an actual effort by the Conservapedia people. I'm able to reach Conservapedia now and I can see this seems to be coming from them. Here's their progress so far:

Here's the Gospel according to Mark:

And these guys are "translating" English into English.

EDIT: I took the time to read the link that CivGeneral posted. It's bats*** insane.

Conservapedia said:
Since this project translates from the King James Version
wait, what?

The 'examples' on the wiki page fill me with despair.

Perhaps I'm just not familiar with the general level of absurdity of conservapedia, but this made me chuckle:

1. ↑ The committee in charge of updating the bestselling version, the NIV, is dominated by professors and higher-educated participants who can be expected to be liberal and feminist in outlook. As a result, the revision and replacement of the NIV will be influenced more by political correctness and other liberal distortions than by genuine examination of the oldest manuscripts. As a result of these political influences, it becomes desirable to develop a conservative translation that can serve, at a minimum, as a bulwark against the liberal manipulation of meaning in future versions.

Isn't this how LDS and Jehovah's Witnesses were founded? For all we know this may be the next big cult.

Oh yes! The New Testament has lots of stuff that could be interpreted that way. Helping the poor and sick, loving your enemy as your friend, money and religion shouldn't mix, all sorts of stuff! I'm actually surprised you didn't know that.

Helping the poor and sick is just being humane - some people think GOV is better at doing it than individuals thats not a lib or con idea ;P. Loving your enemy as a friend thats just wacky^^.

Why are you surprised? :scan:
