I think Romney would do even worse this time around as with Christie and J Bush, Romney will not have a monopoly on the "not totally crazy" part of the GOP ticket.

I mean it was sad how the last GOP primary basically sort of defaulted to him, only after voters first cycled through everyone but him. He won't have that "advantage" this time around.

Yeah, I confess that after Jeb announced, I thought the chances of Romney running were nil, especially given how he'd been so reluctant to even suggest he might before Jeb announced.

That makes two political decision that surprised me this week already. The other being McCaskill declaring she won't run for Governor in 2016. I figured that was a given, but nope, she's staying in the Senate.

It isn't that. It's the fund raising. He has an "I told you so" meme built in. Lot's of his old contacts can be mined. He has tools and materials with which to work. However, With Jeb and Christie he has serious competition for donations. If nothing else, Romney should be able to build a national ground force.

The Tea Party wing has Walker, Cruz, Carson, etc. That is another fight for funding. Rand Paul has a history of running on a shoestring. Will that work?

Sure that's part of it too. Jeb and Christie would take a piece of his funding pie, of course, but Romney's still got the financial wherewithal to make a run for it. I just think this time around that he does not have the advantage of monopolizing the reality based community of GOP voters.
