The 2016 US Presidential Primaries Begin!

I like Paul (due to the Ron ;) ), but Christie seems horrible and i doubt he could easily defeat even a dog or monkey as his opponent by now.

(or a... crocodile? :jesus: ).

Churchill also said: "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

See previous citation. Note the word "worst".

THAT being said, thanks to state legislators canceling provisions of the Voting Rights Act, gerrymandering districts to keep incumbents in, we really don't have a democracy, anyway.

If Christie and Paul make a run, Republicans lose to whoever the Dems come up with.

If Jeb Bush makes a run, then there are few who can beat him.

If Ben Carson runs, its possible that a 35 year-old female librarian from Marion, Ohio could beat him as a write-in.

Jeb Bush is going to run. The timing of the announcement is all that remains.

Paul will also run. His position in the Senate is very secure, so there is no down side.

Christie is likely to run, but Bush could bury him on the fund raising side. Having Romney also in the ring makes it crowded. Paul does not need a big war chest.

Carson is a pot stirrer, not a serious candidate. Still, Joe Biden has a worse case of athlete's tongue and look what he managed.

Don't ignore Scott Walker. He is doing very well with his trial balloon in Iowa.

(or a... crocodile? :jesus: ).

What have you got against Hillary? This is the first time I have seen her called a croc.

That's been on the news all day. He talked to all the right people, and they decided he really didn't stand a chance. Seems like that leaves Jeb as the favorite for the establishment wing.

This is another way of saying there is no establishment candidate.

I note that Romney took swipes at Christie and Bush on his way out. Nice guy.

And Donald Trump discusses Mitt Romney dropping out on his twitter with his humble, restrained attitude just like usual:

"I will take full credit for Mitt Romney dropping out of the race—looks like he won’t be endorsing Trump any time soon."

"Mitt did the right thing—not because he had to-- but because he never would have been given a second chance after his first fiasco"

Oh Donald Trump, tsk tsk. Looks like the 2016 season is gonna be just as entertaining as the last one.

Here and I thought the Republican Party would have purged the Tea Party heresy by now

That's about half their registered voters.

The Tea Party, by itself, is too large to be considered a "heresy". That does not get into sympathizers. Like many grass roots organizations, it is chaotic and amorphous, but there is a LOT of it.

J

Except the origins of the Tea Party are not grassroots at all, there's a number of links to tobacco/climate denial machines and right wing think tanks involved in financing it. Had the funding been cut off, the whole thing would have dissipated as a coherent force IMO, although it's probably too entrenched now for the right wing to do much about it.

Then again, the Koch brothers and their network have stated plans to effectively triple the Republican campaign budget, so I guess they're in it for the long haul...

The Teaparty may have started as astroturf. But to a significant extent Frankenstein lost control of his monster.

Once the Tea Party heresy has at least 5 more provinces than Republicanism, then the Tea Party will replace the Republic as the orthodox religion and Republicanism will become a heresy.

Oh wait, this isn't CKII.

Yeah, it's become much more incestuous.

This is a popular myth, promulgated by people that manufacture astroturf. The Tea Party is textbook grass roots. Compare, for example, the continuing demonstrations in Ferguson.

It's ironic. For some, the expression has a positive value judgment attached. As such it has connotations, which are supposed to apply only to groups affiliated with the Democratic Party. Hence you get a reaction similar to the same people opinion of Fox news or the Koch Bothers.

More irony, George Soros railing at the Koch Bothers. Pot meet Kettle.

Tea Party is NOT grass roots. Grass roots =/= two oil tycoons financing anti-worker campaigns.

No love for Soros, either.

Jeb Bush is going to be our next Prez, with another first: Mexican First Lady.

No dems can beat Bush. Mark my words.

The amount of money thrown at the Tea Party does not matter. The acid test is what happens when the money dries up and the cameras go away. The Tea Party was there before the Koch's popped up and it is still out there now. I say again, textbook case of grassroots.

The Republican party agrees with you on the rest. They think Hillary is the bead curtain in an open doorway. Barak Obama has done more to revitalize Republicans than Newt Gingrich 25 years ago. That's a lot.

Sabato has another article out. Three in six weeks may be a new record. Walk and Bush share top billing.

I think Jeb's got a real shot.
