CTD and Reboots fixed by 1.09?

To the vast number experiencing Crashes to desktop and/or reboots,
especially nVidia users...

did the patch fix those problems? Since uninstalling could be problematic, I'd like to know some opinion before installing it.

I'm NOT talking about Cheshire Cat, black terrain or other... just CRASHES.

Thanx.

Maybe for some. I got the exact same problem, I had since the beginning. After some time the screen simply fills up with random textures and the game crashes. Patch 1.09 did nothing for me.

1.09 has changed nothing for me

can play for maybe 10 mins at first, then it's a hard lockup on a machine, and I have to power cycle to get it back. Tried every combination of fixes so far, including a clean install. It simply will not play for more than 10 mins on either tutorial or actual game.

my hardware
Athlon 64 3000, Ati 9800 pro, 1 gig ram, windows xp sp2, audigy 2 sound

not happy at all with this

Yes, the patch seems to fix my crashes.

I have a Geforce 6600GT, 2Ghz Intel pentium4, 1GB RAM. Running with latest NVidia drivers (81.95) on a clean win2k installation.

But I had to turn off the wonder videos, because they caused reproducible crashes (the oracle video did, at least). Now I've been playing 2 hours on a normal map without crashes, but everything is quite slow, so I turned on "show single units" (or something) and disabled animations. I still get the usual slowdown in later ages. (quit and reload helps) Processor usage 100%

First I tried to update from patched version 1.08 to 1.09, but that gave me some CTD's and reboots.

UPDATE: See http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=143147 for a success story!

after around 10 mins or so I have this error msg about senting info to Microsoft and then game crashes.
B4 path 1.09 game just crashed without this msg:mad:

So that's quite an improvement!

Since the 1.09 patch my crashing has actually increased, it used to just drop out to desktop but now I get the 'report this error to microsoft' dialogue every time and the frequency is up to about once every 5-10 minutes.

Just about to try the latest and greatest gfx drivers to see if they help.

I actually had no crashes before 1.09 came out. I just had really poor performance.

I was using the 77.77 drivers which seemed to get the best performance from the game. I also found that disabling fast writes in the BIOS helped speed things up a great deal (something that also helped with Rome Total War).

With 1.09, game has crashed three times in an hour and "killed" my video device driver forcing a reboot and a complete power down to repair the problem.

Tried using the newest drivers (hated too as they kill performance in Call of Duty 2 and Rome Total War; which I'm also playing) but still, the game crashed.

Oh well, it's Turkey time for me. I'll check again in a week or so. Trying to bribe the wife into letting me play my new Xbox 360 before Christmas. :crazyeye:

Yeah, it's worse for me now than before! With 1.0 I could sometimes play for up to 15 minutes but now "Ka-Boom!" after about 5 minutes.

And YES, I am tweaked, updated and above minimum standards. Geez!

I have found that the CTD errors do not occur anymore with my Nvidia GeForce FX5700LE. However, overall game speed has slowed way down. Starting a new game it takes 30-40 seconds to end a turn with only one city and one unit outside my city on auto-explore. I appreciate the effort to fix the CTD error, but the game plays way too slowly now to enjoy it.:(

I didn't play long after installing 1.09 but my system rebooted before the first turn in windowed mode. In full-screen mode I got well into a game. Before the patches I was crashing to reboot in later game stages almost every time I played. I also note that Wonder movies are still stuttering on my system after 1.09.

My specs:
P4 2.53GHz
1GB RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro
SB Audigy Soundcard

Patch didn't fix the CTD for me either. Whenever I try to see city details my screen freezes and the sound starts chuckling/continueing/chuckling/...

specs:
amd xp2000+
GF6800
+700 mb ram
audigy ls soundcard
latest drivers of everything

1.09 made things worse for me. Without the patch I could play for 10-20 minutes, but after patching the game, it bombs almost right away.

I did a clean install of Civ4, patched to 1.09, started the game and got only as far as selecting the game options - Civ4 gave me BSOD before I could make any moves. Hmm, now what...

AMD 3000+
XP PRO SP2
1GB RAM
GF Ti4200 128
running the latest drivers

and what the heck is this mssmp3.asi file, that seems to make those crashes ?

I haven't noticed a change in CTD or lockups either with 1.09. I noticed that it now behaves a little better when crashing (get the 'Application must be shut down' dialog) but the frequency of crashes has not decreased.

I have an FX5700LE too, but I get more crashes (BSOD; have to hard-reboot) after the patch than before. What are your other specs?

Mine is:
Win XP Home SP2
Nvidia GeForce FX5700LE (obviously) (AGP with 256 Mb ram)
Videodrivers: Tried from 77-something to the latest 81.95.
1 Gb ram
2 Ghz AMD-processor
onboard sound (realtek)
Have tried with swapfile both systemcontrolled and set at 2 Gb.
Civ4 is installed on a different HD than my windows.

I mostly run the screen on 1024*768.
I have tried opening the case and fan lots of air through, but no: Heat is not the problem either.

edit: Spelling

I tried running Civ 4 in window mode, so I could constantly monitor the temperature reading from my 6800 GT card. Heat is definitely not an issue - especially compared to BF2, COD2 and Il-2 that I also play.
