Current (SVN) development discussion thread

India respawns a lot in the late and very late game,but they get nowhere,because of the Mughals and (often) Tamils who destroy or vasslize them.And Britain often fails to conquer India or even a part of it.
Also,there is no sort of representation of decolonization.

Napoli still needs an Arabic name. Egypt vassalized by Moors could be Taifa of Egypt instead of just Protectorate. Egypt seriously needs some techs when respawned. Also as Moors even though I am Muslim I get to vote in the Apostolic Palace even though I am up to date on SVN. And Tibetan Embassy has a txt key

Just opened a 600 AD Tibetan, Chang'an has only 1 archer defending, so I invaded China, next turn Chang'an got another archer, then my UU defeated it, I decided to stop playing because it's too easy now. Tibetans did invade Chang'an during Chinese civil war, but not that early...

Re: Congresses, I found several clear mistakes in Congress.py.

Line 412:
iGoldRequired = (2*pHuman.getGold() + 2*pCiv.getGold())/4 - 70

This means iGoldRequired will always be larger than half your entire treasury (which can easily be 5,000 or more). A more reasonable replacement would be:

iGoldRequired = (pHuman.getGold() + 4*pCiv.getGold())/10

The Soggezione modifier also needs to be reworked IMO - currently its effect is small enough to be negligible. Line 419:

iSoggezioneModifier = min(100, abs(iSoggezione)*(100/((iNumPlayers/2)+5))) + 100

With many new civs added by Leoreth in DoC, iNumPlayers is now much larger than in original RFC. This is why Line 419 must be rebalanced. I suggest a replacement as

iSoggezioneModifier = min(80, abs(iSoggezione)*(80/8)) + 100

Which means you get maximum Soggezione effect if you're ranked 8 places or more above another player. This also eliminates any need for rebalance should more future civs be added.

Line 425:

iAttitudeModifier = (100 - abs(iAttitude)*25)

Also causes other civs to require less Gold if their attitude is low enough.

I'd replace Lines 424 to 429 with the following:

iAttitude = pCiv.AI_getAttitude(iHuman)
iAttitudeModifier = max(50, 100 - iAttitude*12)
iTempThreshold = iTempThreshold*iAttitudeModifier/100

This means that if you have +5 relation or above you get a 50% discount.
0 relation does not increase or decrease the Gold required.
At -8 relation penalty, you need twice as much Gold to bribe a civ.

A version of Congress.py containing all the above modifications is here:

I did not forget about this suggestion and finally included it (the last part was alright in Rhye's implementation though - AI_getAttitude() gives you the attitude level, i.e. annoyed, cautious etc).

I did this in the process of buffing France's UP. Now they don't get refusals to talk at all, the diplomatic penalty reduction now works that their penalties decay twice as fast, instead of being twice as likely to decay at all. They also get treated more favorably by other AIs in Congress votes, which I though was appropriate and should help them set up the second French Empire.

Edit: oh, and Tibet now has its own great prophet names. I guess it's more fun to settle the actual Dalai Lamas in Lhasa :)

Yeah, except one aspect of the French UP which I forgot to build before committing.

But try and keep this war going with China. I found Chang'an poorly defended as well, and grabbed it. But through the war, I was eventually overrun and lost. China refused peace unless they got Chang'an back, and I couldn't take another city since the rest were actually well defended. To finish the UHV and do well in general, I find you should stay at peace with China, and instead push for independent India. I also find China completely leaves you alone as long as you do the same to them, so going to war with them isn't going to help Tibet in the long run.

I find at the current moment first Khampa goes north and quickly takes Dunhuang, Kashgar, Merv, Samarkand, then raise a real army for India.

The north is faster due to a lovely little road.

I found that the barbarians along the silk route tie up too much of your forces, and you really need Pagan and Gron Khyer Me Tog to get the prophet generation rolling.

Delhi can be a good catch as well, they're sometimes only defended by an archer.

Edit : the 3rd Babylonian UHV text is wrong, it says "by" but acts as "in".

raise a real army for India

I do not think you need a real army for three archers.
(Unless you are trying to take all of India. I went for Pataliputra and Deli)

Are you going for Tibetan domination or something? :lol:
Khampas are great fun, with their 'can move through enemy territiory' ability you can just position 6 of them next to any capital and take it out. So what about using that real army to kill off all Europeans, lots more fun :groucho:

First thing I do with every new civilization is get as large as possible not changing civics. Poland was so close to domination before collapse. Their UP is/was way OP for conquest.

I just had a very disappointing Tibet game. It's my first time trying Tibet though so I don't know if these are intended or not.

1) Tibet gets 8 archer and 6 swordsman at start. These inexperienced army collapse my economy that I'll broke out in, like, 5-6 turns unless I do trading or whatever.
2) Strange China (I'll explain why, below) is epic. They don't want to open borders with me so I'm stuck in the middle of Tibetan Plateau, with no income at all.
3) India has collapsed before.

Having no other option, I took Xi'an and Kaifeng in order to gain some pillage and kill these inexperienced unit so I don't have to pay for them anymore... I razed Kaifeng.

I force China to sign a peace treaty (they had just build their first Cho-Ko-Nu and I'm running out of experienced army to counterbalance them), and it makes me their worst enemy. Refuse to open borders.

Since Guangzhou is really cultured, it again, block me from seeing the Khmer :(
Back to the no-income Tibet again then :sad:

The strange part about China is :
1) I met them animist, even though having both Confucianism & Taoism holy city. Something very uncommon about them.
2)
Civ4ScreenShot0388.jpg

Is that mean Xi'an is their only city while Great Wall is finished?
3) Buddhism is almost in every Chinese city even before I spawn. They even built Shwedagon Paya in Xi'an.

The strange part in the rest of the world is :
1)
Civ4ScreenShot0389.jpg
I don't know what happens to the Indonesian but it's around year 800 AD and they only have Palembang. Their Singapore settle also stands idle there for like ~100 year :crazyeye:
2) Why there's still barbarian swordsman in Tibet? Afaik Rhye used these barbarian used to represent the Tibet but since Tibet is now in-game, imo these should be deleted.
3) It looks like the performance of AI Moors is depends on how fast their Marrakesh worker recognize the metal in the deserts is Iron and the animal near their city is Horse. Unless they recognize it's more important than the wine, Cordoba can only build swordsman and is no match to Spanish Knight. Triggering a very early Reconquista..

Ben, the army you flipped were barbs pushed out of China because of Gwall. Missionaries and Khampas can move through China regardless of OB.
