DaNES II: When the Stars Fall

To Panormos
From: The Aorsi

Believe us, we do not wish to see this battle continue. But what else are we to conclude from the silence emanating from Chaonia, if not their refusal to accept fair peace? If they were willing to discuss this, surely they would've made a counterproposal by now?

Know, however, that the Khan will not hold Chaonia's silence against you and will not attack Panormos because of it. We can make no such guarantee for Chaonia, should they not at least dignify the offer with an answer.

We strongly recommend that you accept the Aorsi's offer of peace. Continued war is certainly not in our interest at this time. At the least, the losses we have taken prevent us from fighting further.

To Seleukids
From Areia

We are no longer willing to surrender Susiane. You will pull out and accept a reasonable indemnity, or you will be defeated. (According to the map, you do have almost all of Persis, and a substantial part of Karmania. In the update, you defeated us at Pasargadai and then proceeded to capture Karmana.)

Further suggestions are welcome.

Yes we agree to peace, and will give you 100 talents. Sorry for the long wait for a reply.

Diplomacy is supposed to be in character. Putting stupid lame silly OTL pictures in 7th century ATL diplomacy breaks the IC/OOC barrier.

That was merely the expression of my diplomat while delivering the message. I don't see how a visual representation of his attitude is out of character.

The Peace of Wuhan

  1. The State of Yang and the State of Wu agree to an immediate end to all hostilities.
  2. The State of Yang and the State of Wu are obliged to declare war upon The State of Liang with both The State of Wu and The State of Yang obliged to not make a separate peace with The State of Liang for at least five years.
  3. The State of Wu agrees to sponsor the The State of Yang with an undisclosed sum.
  4. The State of Wu and The State of Yang agree to define their mutual border as follows, and to leave whatever territory vacated to each other in the best possible condition:

Since Masada appears to have quit NESing again...:undecide:

Zhu Quan, High Chancellor of Yang Chao, on behalf of His Majesty the Son of Heaven Sui Wen appends his agreement.

Well, you attacked us, and you can not just annex our satrapies with impunity, especially when our army's bigger and better anyway. You will be defeated.

OOC at Dachs with reference to WWW: sorry; I'd love to make a reasonable peace.

We are delighted to announce our new alliance of defense and trade with the Patalene League. May this lead to greater prosperity and dominance for all.

OOC: Sorry, but I fail to understand the upkeep system. Dachs, or anyone else:

I have about 65000 infantry. Upkeep= 65*150=9750 talents
I have about 13000 cavalry. Upkeep=13*300=3900 talents
I have about 30 ships. Upkeep=3*200=600 talents

Total=9750+3900+600=14250 talents
Total in stats=24200 talents.

Where is the extra coming from? The Seleukids also have an upkeep bigger than it should be, by my calculations.

Dachs has a very ad hoc upkeep system. So...we don't exactly know. :hmm: But it doesn't just account for military; your infrastructure, bureaucracy and a bunch of other things affect it.
It's not that ad hoc. There is method to the madness. But yes, there is not a direct correlation between army size and total upkeep due to infra, bureaucracy, military quality, nature of said military quality, and so forth. Upkeep per turn per 1,000 soldiers/10 ships is also not equal to recruitment cost, due to various one-time costs involved in recruitment (signing bonuses, equipment provision, initial training, and so forth).

The upkeep system is meant to not be precisely understood, because if you understand it, you can manipulate it, and avoiding player manipulation of the ruleset was one of my chief goals in creating these rules.

Speaking of player manipulation of stats, Abaddon has informed me that the Liang, the most powerful single state in the entire world, are now open for play.
