Deity Challenge #10 - Maya on pangaea

use the forums upload option in the attachment manager. then click the spoiler button and attach the image in there. if your image is too big try to save it as a smaller file size. if you cant then use a host like imageshack. i use a free software (paint.net) for resizing the file size. pictures and save files can be uploaded from you hard drive without needing a hosting site if you can do that.

The confusion was caused by the fact his bpt stands out. In every challenge. It's more understandable now.

Tommy's performance in GotM only proved that Tommy is good at this play style. And he is indeed. I have no idea how same Tommy will perform using a different play style. You can't compare apples and oranges. Maybe we'll make a special 'no war' challenge and he'll take a shot at it. ;)

thanks rabbi!

yes, but his playstyle also continously produced faster finish times than anyone else. including players like tabarnak, who is probably one of the best around, but plays under HoF rules.

From what i saw on his you tube channel, tommynt is unreachable in MP too.

there are 2-3 players in league being on par.
Doubt that there nonleague players being better, but I d love to be proven wrong :)

Apart that I dont believe in styles, all good players (and I d say beating deity constntly = good) will be able to adjust their game and react to map and other conditions.

The 1 thing I d love most about "no trade" deity challenge is that game plays out so much faster, I really dont like spending half of playing time in diplo screen, but at same time I dont like "play bad".

This is what I dislike about self-restricting challenges in general. I rarely do them; the "no ranged" one intrigued me briefly, but after an hour or so of playing I just couldn't stand intentionally hamstringing myself.

First of all, HoF rules are restrictive. Not restrictive enough, IMO, but they do have a big impact. But that's not even the point. You can't compare results of different players because there is always skill and/or experience difference. There are many players that adopted (or tried to adopt) Tommy's style (indeed he's doing a great job popularizing it :D) and someone like Sadato who only plays turtling OCC's will beat them hands down every day of the week. This comparison is hardly conclusive.

Dont think you should say something like that in a game having a multiplayer modus, as u could be proven wrong very fast and easy.

And comparing sp results is -well - kinda pointless, with options like reloading, restarting, huge luck factor with ai behaviour and so on.

I mean obvioulsy i took part in sp comparing events but I never really trusted them (might post a player example - but maybe better not), multiplayer - espacially duels - is just only real environment to compete

I didn't mean anyone in particular. Just that trying to implement same tactics you're using is not enough to guarantee a win (i.e. to achieve faster finish on the same SP map) against someone who's playing completely peaceful RA oriented games and excels at them. Skill level makes all the difference.
Btw, I'm the last person on Earth that will suggest peacemongering is superior to warmongering in MP. Especially on duels. I played a lot Civ4 MP. I know better. :)

That's the beauty of this game. There is so much to counsider that only general statements can be generally approved. Otherwise it's all report to skills, rules and micromanagement.

Tommy said that the duel(no cs no barbs) mp setting is the best to compare both human skills. It is true. But we are still missing a lot of things doing that! Like diplomatic skills, cs approach skills, etc. It's far from perfect but it does complete the ''war skills'' environment .

I will not complete this game. i can win science victory easy. have almost 900 beakers a turn at turn 170, and dont feel like next turning until launching a spaceship. Big congratulations to Old Peter! very nice achievement! i would never attempt something that painful ;)

next game could be with domination, culture, and time victory enabled only? would be fun i think.

We can make it perfect. Mirror map, obviously, no war - since damage is not set, no religion - we all know how these stupid prophets are born whenever they want and no wonders - the host will always get them if both players complete them simultaneously. That's kind of pdrfect game I won't necessarily play myself, but would love to see somebody else plays it. Just because I'm a nice guy and enjoy watching other people suffer. :sheep:
Oh, wait.. there still is a random factor. WLtKD! :D

For the next challenge I would love to try a map where only "cultural victory" was enabled!

I hava actually never even tried it myself. And I have never seen anyone honestly win it. :p

And, this would really put people out of their comfort zones. Some people always seem to go for science victory, some always for domination (me ).

Maybe the Inca would be a fun civilization? I have not tried them much, but people say they are really good, but I do not really understand why, so would be fun to see them in action :).

Inca:
UA - incredible for mobilizing units, scouting, and defense. great for putting archers into place on hills and fire in the same turn and for melee to move thru hills and attack in the same turn. you can hide one behind a hill from a city and take it in 1 movement.
UI - with mtns around has HUGE growth potential. single tiles can have 5+ food and 2 hammers before turn 50.
UU - deceptive. weak early but their ability carries over with promos. they survive longer.

Inca is solid all around and great for any vic type. top 3 most versatile civ in the game.

How is 5? It is 1+1 food + 2 hammers if terrace farm is next to mountain?

1 + 1 per mtn it touches. if it touches 1 mountain you only get 2 max food. if it touches 2 mtns it's 3 food and 2 hammers. it can rarely touch 5 mtns, (i.e. full circle with one opening for the worker to improve it) and it will have 6 food and 2 hammers, improved with techs later. if you have a long wall of mtns with hills each one will have 3-4 food and 2 hammers with no bonuses from techs yet.
