Or it acts as a warning example & should be avoided at all costs. The addictive aspect of the game doesn't seem to diminish over the years.
I nearly overdid myself last evening and luckily I had that spying incident which made me reload & look at the time - it was 2½ hrs more than I imagined so I had to postpone the final until today. For these cases I have the clock addon but apparently it's not much of a use unless one takes a glimpse at it once in a while.
I'm afraid I'm a lost cause as well though my sessions don't last 24h+ like back in Civ2 at worst.
Passing of time is also very relative as based on the screen shots I spend 50mins for the last 5 turns on which I had practically nothing to do but send few nukes & SBs around the world accompanied by fairly milimalistic army. I neglected diplomacy, build orders, micromanaging & all stuff like that. I did spend a while wondering about the graphics bug but I doubt I was hypnotized by it for any serious length of time. Surely others had numerous units as well but I wasn't even annoyed about the turn times of AI.
If nothing else the game surely takes care of one's 'I-have-nothing-to-do' moments'.
At the prompting of contributors here, in my own games, I've been giving the four-city Tradition start (which it looks like you used) a try. Can't say it's yet helped me win at Deity, but I at least see how it helps you get a good nation set up. The four free monuments count for more than I'd imagined. The boost to your cities' ranged combat damage really makes a difference given that you're anticipating invasion. And while your cities are really small for a really long time, the aquaducts change that eventually, and in the mean time, you've covered some territory.
So the next time someone is willing to roll a G+K only deity challenge, I'll give it a try using tradition. I won't ask for a while, but I appreciate your doing it this time, Pilgrim.

I don't methodically follow the Tabarnak's 4C model but adapt it to the given map as I assume most of us do. This time I was going for a 3C version until I saw the Southern neighbour's settler nearby and bought a settler & few turns later a library to continue the NC - sometimes a pile of cash has a positive function. Location of the 4th city therefore isn't a result of a rational thought process but a semi-mandatory due to my neighbour. On the other hand I could argue that I didn't do much of any thinking but went with cruise control until Industrial. I might have mentioned this earlier somewhere but the map really wasn't something I adored.
What comes to Legalism I always take it after hard building a monument in my capital so it's 3 monuments & an amphitheater. Generally the building plan is scout-monument-shrine/scout as I fairly often use double scouts. Scouts are there for the ruins & other AIs while the warrior hopefully finds a free worker. In this game my 1st scout stole 2 ~@13.

Yes, preferably them instead of a CS and especially in cases when I've yet to meet most of the civs so my little aggression goes practically unnoticed. CSs are the last resort if I'm unable to steal from anyone else.
Back in vanilla I always stole from a CS but during the months of G&K stealing from a proper Civ has become much more tempting as leaves room for DoWing an annoying CS later in the game. I feel naked without an early worker but something odds just are against early theft.

Yup, a free worker or even few if extremely lucky does smooth the start quite a bit - usually, and moreover it makes the next door neighbour a cautious one which again, with some luck, leaves extra room for expansion so the benefits from stealing from a major civ have additional perks which a theft from a CS does not.
The Aztec DC was a classic case in point as it turned Roman expansion towards North instead of South or East towards me. The Arabian DC was the same but to a lesser degree - Lizzy's southward settling was delayed by a lot. In that game, though, I think I stole few workers from the militaristic CS nearby, too. Unlike in vanilla I never make peace immediately after stealing the first worker unless it's absolutely necessary to guarantee the safety of the stolen worker - a scout for a worker is still pretty good deal.
Sounds good, I should probably start doing that. I guess there's no point tying my hands behind my back more than I already do against an AI that gets 10000 advantages already
Something along that line, yes and the T10-T15 war is far from fatal - with some unlucky barbs popping around actually working effectively the capital tiles might be tricky but there're no real downsides of the practice. You will eventually go to war with the closest AI no matter what you do.
One reason for this practice was the Republic swap in Liberty tree and therefore moving into Tradition which meant the loss of a free worker in a reasonable time frame so to kick start things one is needed from elsewhere. Obviously one could be bought with the first 310g but I much prefer using the 500g for settler before T30, close to T20 if possible so on T30 I have 2 cities.

I took a quick count but only managed to get 9669 advantages - maybe we count the bugs differently however, this got me thinking the opposite - how about not stealing a worker from anyone by my own initiative so while waiting the next DC I might test this on earlier unplayed DCs. My guess is that I feel totally screwed by T40.but as much as I can recall the Austrian DC was totally warfree for me in means of getting xp from a non-barb unit.

While I've never done this intentionally, but I ended up without stealing workers at all enough times to conclude that despite the fact it screws you somewhat at the beginning, it's far from being a game breaker.

Yeah, pretty much and definitely not a game breaker either way. My thinking was that if I refuse to steal workers it puts me in a position which I'm not used to - there were always games in which I didn't steal but it was always an option and therefore, probably, easier to adapt to.
Is there a map type where everyone has their own small island, barely big enough for 1 maybe 2 settlements, and then there is a huge island in the middle where everyone has to "colonize" it and fight over land and whatnot?
I remember there used to be one like this in age of empires and I loved that map.
As The Pilgrim is the official DC Master I'm only speculating here but I'd would assume that all suggestions in regards of forthcoming challenges are welcomed and may be implemented in any challenges to follow to keep them interesting and different.
I've been toying with the idea of India, especially on Terra but it's far from becoming next DC. However, unless no one else posts, reserves the right or even hint towards presenting something until Friday evening this week I'll do so (keep in mind that I'm on UTC+2); India or something else - I don't have a proper map yet anyway. A DC in every second Friday seems like a reasonable schedule to me at least.
Unfortunately the current challenge isn't producing multiple results as it seemed considerably harder than DCs 10 & 12 specifically. On a side note I'd like to say that it'd be nice to see a ss from the turns that those less fortunate decided to throw in the towel for a reason or another. All pics have educational value. Or it could just be that the others don't share my undying love with the map.
