Deity Challenge #13 - The Dutch

I give up on this challenge =\
What happened?

Over my dead body! No, no stealing workers in addition to no lump sum deals. :) Suddenly India doesn't look that bad. :D

As The Pilgrim is the official DC Master
Pardon me! Unless I'm getting paid, I'm not the official nor the Master. Of anything. :D
Seriously, I've said that multiple times. It's free for all. If you have a good idea, go and post a save whenever you like it and most definitely don't wait for me or my approval (). I also mentioned, (and I'm not the only one (:p) that I'd appreciate reasonable intervals between the challenges, but even this is not set in stone. I prefer them coming too fast even if that means I can't keep up, rather than too slow, while people are waiting for me. It can be a really long and fruitless wait sometimes.

Unfortunately the current challenge isn't producing multiple results as it seemed considerably harder than DCs 10 & 12 specifically. On a side note I'd like to say that it'd be nice to see a ss from the turns that those less fortunate decided to throw in the towel for a reason or another. All pics have educational value. Or it could just be that the others don't share my undying love with the map.
I didn't play past turn 76. No towel. Yet.

Damn it, chief - accept it; you started it so you'll lead the peasants and we'll revolt without the immaculate guidance. Anyway, it's not about the money but glory.

Not so surprisingly, again, my thoughts exactly - keep'em comin'. Both challenges & ideas are welcomed within reason. I was merely pointing myself as a temporary presenter of a challenge if their isn't one yet on Friday evening so the time between challenges won't exceed 2 weeks.

Hail The Pilgrim :hatsoff:

Yup, I assumed there're hefty bunch of games still going on - not everyone had such affection with the map as I did so game/affair will be longer & less passionate. I was rather referring to games that do not result a win screen but are cut short for whichever reason :wallbash: - still interesting to see what was going on but don't mock the towel - it's the most important item an intergalactic hitchhiker can have.

didn't tommynt say he'd post a save? that was several days ago i think. im curious what his hard maps look like.

Not much, except the Mongols have like 4x my score and 10+ cities while I barely have 3.

Might be just me but in general I think people do emphasize the value of scoreboard too much. For me it's an indicator of a possible runaway but nothing much else and capturing a single wonder heavy, populous city might have a huge impact. My interest lies in the demographics and especially in literacy and to a lesser degree in population & military.

He was cooking something long before the current DC but it never materialized so The Pilgrim provided one two weeks after the previous one.

I understand that score means almost nothing, but I am using it to describe a runaway that I had no way to deal with.

Anyway, the restart seems more interesting - the Mongols decided to dow Theodora instead of taking the two CS north of me by turn 20.... which is really nice. They still took one of them eventually, but at least that's easier to deal with now.

Yes, for some reason I chose to get Theology instead of Civil Services first. I have no idea why I did this - sleep deprivation is to be blamed. I still managed to get Education by turn 120, which isn't too bad. I think I will win this game!

dutch, mhhh ok ill give it my first deity try sometime this week

the dutch UA is weird. and willems pants are even weirder

I haven't played this map but seems like this might not be the easiest map for the 1st Deity try :) You might want to try DC12, 10 or the Austria one instead or maybe even the DC6 if you want to try a water map first.

As for the next challenge...There's been some discussions about Honor and the general agreement seems to be it's a waste of policies. How about a civ and/or map where it would be possible to get benefits from Honor and we could try if the Honor isn't such a crap tree it's believed to be?

I don't usually like predetermined conditions but how about you must complete the Honor tree before finishing the game or if you want to make it more extreme, you must finish the Honor tree before getting any other policies?

Ugh.

I am sandwiched between two different runaways =\ What a game.

It's definitely a winnable map, but I need more RNG blessings or rethink my strategies. The biggest problem is that Pacal didn't offer any resistances at all against Rammy (because Pacal threw all of his units at me instead). Also, to beeline Education after Guilds was probably pushing it a little bit. Instead, I should have just beelined to Machinery and crush Rammy while Genghis was preoccupied with Theodora.

Not sure if I want to replay this AGAIN but I definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel.

No! :p

*sigh* I just want you to know you're always welcome in my house. Please come and pitch to my wife about quitting the job and playing video games full time. She just doesn't get it. So greedy... :(

He also promised to post a detailed walktrough of DC10. We'll wait.

Good luck! I'll be lurking with interest. :D

It doesn't look hopeless to me. This is about the time when your research accelerates and you're supposed to start catching up. How far are you from Artillery?

Thanks, and I feel your pain - the unjustified hostility towards this minor rerouting of personal focus might seem overwhelming and raises the immortal question of the OPness of the Wife unit. Perhaps BNW should remove it's universal veto power or something along that line as with all the myriad of admirable qualities the female sex has it occasionally seems a bit out of touch about the _really_ important things.

this is my second try ( i totally screwed up the first one failing on lux sales/bad teching, trying OCCish turtle NC rush > ghengis owned me)

i refused to scout west so that pacal would worry about ramses(worked like a charm), stole a worker from the mongols (yay!) and have been at war ever since. awaiting his spam, but he only sent 2 more free workers for me:lol: that was very sweet seeing is lone spear and settler run into my CB.

i failed attacking alt-sarai through monoco and la venta, and now have to deal with his donk city ill have to raze. will move on the far east to attack turfan prolly. rushbought libary in utrecht. turn 80 NC will be up, turn 95ish tradition complete.

i am friends with rome, byzanthium and egypt. i think thats pretty sweet considering the location of the civs.

everybody is in medival. i need to finish D&P, HBR, math, currency before i can hit civil service and will then prolly go XB. not doing so seems dumb on this crowded map.

what really worries me is the CS around me. soon the AI will start picking them up. i actually build a second scout ( which died to barbs) to scout the south. and can clean up the far NE with my initial scout.

i got so much free religion and still i wont get one which is ok, i wasnt planning on it. i took the +30HP heal thingy ( awaiting mongols which never came... dindt even attack CS like in first game. hes not at war with theodora, dont know why i got so lucky(or unlucky: cant liberate CS) stealing his worker turn 10ish really messed him up it seems? lol

dutch UA really helps selling and expanding and growing without getting unhappy :) and willems pants are still weird :D

im debating if i should settle a 4th city next to the furs on the copper. but that will mess with my tradition policys wont it? (stupid mongol city)

Ah, the joys of being young and unwed.

Although I haven't figured out the "quit your job" part yet :p

simple. play more, work less. :P

Just started this map and played first 70 turns. I took the long forgotten path of 4 city NC before anything (even before construction), cause the area was overloaded with luxes. By the way, i never realised Willy's UA is so strong. I exchanged ALL my luxes at about turn 65 to end up at +16 happiness. The golden age is nigh!

All in all it's a slow start, growth - wise, however i managed to befriend few CS, so culture/faith are alright. Got religion few turns ago (tithe/production bonus) I think the plan is to defend what i have until the point i can sprint into battle. Genghis's new puppets seems a good place to start, since 1. he is a public enemy already and 2. 3 CS allies and a buffer zone is something i want @ my North borders.

Payed the Mongol to attack Pacal and Theo. Pacal DoW'ed me in 50'ies, but failed miserably, as Mt. Fuji was by my side!

What i need now is a couple more workers and a whole lotta luck. ;)

Couldn't agree more. Wives are totally OP and need a major nerf. First of all, their UA veto power should not increase with years. That's just broken. How are you supposed to defend yourself when they outflank you with mothers in law, sisters in law and fathers in law? Granted, father in law is like battering ram, looks scary, but is harmless, however, that's not the point, you still have no chance to hold off. Even allying a bunch of kids doesn't help, we all now how easily these allies fall to bullies. One can't avoid the question whether benefiting from good food luxury is worth all the horror husbands are forced to deal with. :(

The higher they fly, the harder they fall. :p

and willems pants are still weird :D
Hey, at least he wears some. Not every male AI leader can say that. :D

can somebody explain why ramses, when i'm at civil service, offers me a RA i can accept that shows up properly under TradeAgreements History in the Diplo tabs?

The higher they fly, the harder they fall. :p
only if you actually fly in physical spacetime, there ARE others you know :)

He has Education already.

I don't fly, mate. I'm crawling for a long long time now. :D

oh, its one sided requirement? that seems lame, lol. thx, i thought both need it...

ps. why crawl when you can fly? :P
