Getting caught smoking pot on campus and then facing academic discipline and feeling sad/anxious over possible expulsion doesn't really constitute depression. It's just a normal reaction to a bad event.
I didn't mean it in the choice factor, but rather in the mind factor. If something like, below, The Alamo said, happened, then it's really an overreaction.
It is exponentially harder to "pull yourself out of depression" to the point where it's almost impossible for most without help.
