Did you, your family, or any of your ancestors know or meet anybody famous?

My Great Grandfather was born in North India around 1901. His family joined the movement for Indian Independence, and in 1919 his family joined protestors in Amristsar. British troops blocked the only entrance into the city square and opened fire on the unarmed protestors. My grandfather's father was killed in the massacre, and afterwards Mohandas(Mahatma) Gandhi visited Amristar. My grandfather actually met Gandhi in his visit to the city, and he gave spiritual comfort to him.

So what about the rest of you guys?

Um...

A local politician's (City Congress IIRC) son went to my school. Occaisonally he picked his son up, and I saw him.

Surely some of your ancestors where involved with someone famous. Maybe a grandmother who shook hands with Franklin D Roosevelt, a great grandfather who assassinated Arch-Duke Ferdinand, or maybe far back in time one of your ancestors kicked Julius Caesar in the balls.

You can do better than that!

My mom went to school with Paul Verhoeven ("Basic Instinct", "Showgirls") and still meets him every so often on class reunions. None of his classmates expected him to make movies, let alone the kind he makes :).

My cousin went to the same high school as Christina Aguliera.

My great-great uncle cared for Robert E Lee's dog.

I know Tammy Faye Messner. (Formerly Bakker)

She lives in our area. My family has a website and she wrote articles for it. My mom, my sister, and I all went with her to have lunch at a chinese restaurant. It was so cool! She told us stories about PTL and Jim and stuff. I'm not making this up! :p I wish I had taken a picture though, just to prove it. :(

I know norwegian singer Lene Marlin.. Don't suspect many foreigners to know about her, though.

My mother's great uncle was vice president of the US.
I've met a few US Senators, but I wouldn't say I know them.
Met Bruce Dickenson and Steve Harris from Iron Maiden after a concert in the early 1980's (Number of the Beast Tour).

My father sat next to (and talked to) Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands once, before she was queen. He met many more well-known Dutch people btw. My grandfather was in the provincial parliament and in the board of his political party. He's also the co-inventor of the electric car and the gas burner you have in your Chemistry class (well, at least in Dutch chemistry classes). The father of one of my friends was in the Dutch national parliament.

As you can see, my family and I are in the centre of high society.
;)
I think indeed almost everyone's family is in some way connected to famous people. It's rather difficult not to be, I think.

My father knows the former President Bush :D Ha top that.

Well, I usually live in Texas and George W. Bush was the governor for many years. I saw him in Austin Texas in a class field trip! I should have got his autograph and sold it on e-bay.

We used to be next door neighbors to Frejat, a very famous rock musician in Brazil. We also knew Cazuza, who played in the same band as Fejat and died of AIDS. Probably no foreigner poster will recognise them, but all brazilians sure will.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you...
And I'm not kidding. ;)

My great-uncle used to be the mascot for the Minnesota Vikings, and a relative was once married to John Denver.

There is speculation in my family that one of our ancestors was a servant for the Mughal Emperor Alamgir II. He ruled from 1754 to 1759. Assuming he was a servant, he probably had an interesting life involved with the imperial court.

I've met Sid Meier. :D (being this is a Civ site...) Pretty much, much of the Firaxis team in person. Then there's family lore (some are true, others I can't confirm 100%).

There's a rumor that, Davy Crokett (sp) is a distant cousin in our family. Even if he was, it would be a cousin of a cousin of a cousin and so on.

My German side of the family can be traced back to a German Duke. (You may all bow down to me now. :p j/k!)

My cousin's dad's side is related to George Washington (a great-great-great-great-great-great uncle - something like that).

On my Polish side, my great-grandfather had a title (apparently, there were some titles in the Polish side, don't know what they meant) - "Czar of Russia". No, I don't think he was a king (very doubtful on that one. It probably has another meaning), but who knows... What if there's Russian lineage? Makes you wonder. :)

hmm... that means, if I'm related to a Duke (probably in the 1600s - in the Bavaria region most likely), could that mean I'm related to all the royalty in Europe? :D (European royalty is very intertwined - British, German, Greek, Russian...).

I know my grandfather met some famous people (music related). Also, my uncles have met a ton of baseball and football players. They collect sports memoriabilia.
