DisNES II "A Twist of Fate"

Dis, we're still waiting for the update. Almost a month from the time you first posted those three posts :(

You know, no offensive, but isn't this exactly what happened to the last one?

Its dead, done. He's doing the "dissapear and hope the NES goes away" method. I should know, I've done it about three times

Arr, awards!

Considering how you've been posting in almost every other nes....

I did the reverse with ENES:WOM, "reappear and make the NES live again". :p It's zombie, though.
More people should do reappearances, especially if they band together and demand moderators to finish old NESes before starting new ones. That would probably cause more responsibility, and longer NESes, with more history.

And I feel no qualms about posting here to nag Dis, since he was a player in ENES:WOM and intends to be a player in Abandoned Stars, apparently. ;)

Well its come to my surprised attention that I forgot to actually post this explanation and the awards :crazyeye:, even though they were written quite some monthes ago.

IT LIVES!!!....for a while.

Explanation: The NES took to much time in a busy period for me, and therefore will be put on an indefinite hiatus, when I get more free time (projections indicate middle march) I will start this up again (maybe with a BT) or not if I have a world that better captures my attention.

But anyway we good a good number of turns done, and I hope people had fun and would consider joining my NESes in the future.

And now onto the awards – with categories shamelessly stolen from das for the most part ;)…

Awards:

Player Awards:

Winner: This is tricky, and had the game gone on longer I think this might have changed (or Josef may surprise me again  ), but as things currently stand JosefStalinator’s Britain has scrambled to the lead as the frontrunner in many fields.
Best Player: das, with stories, high quality orders and stunning acts of audacity I’m going to have to hand this him as the best all rounder. At least 4-5 other people could quite easily have gotten this too .
Best Orders: This was a tough one, there were four people who sent in really great orders – das, Cuivienen, BananaLee and Symphony D. However, das’s lost out on being hard to parse and Cuiv’s and BananaLee’s were often short and inconsistent… giving the grand prize to Symphony D. BananaLee’s were by far the prettiest orders though ;).
Most Persistent Player: Harleqin, loose your country? Start up again further east! Honourable mentions to silver and Symphony
Least Persistent Player: Azale, for leaving Ming China in its moment of victory.
Most Innovative Player: on the domestic front BananaLee, for a number of quite clever and efficient measures, whilst Symphony D.’s military ideas were top notch.
Best Unsung Leader: shortguy slowly built up the Sultanate of Greater Gujarat, kept it well defended and sent quite spiffy and insightful orders for a relatively new player. Honorable mention to the Farow’s leadership of Iberia.
Most Aggressive Player: das for starting wars with all his neighbours.
Least Aggressive Player: Stormbringer, though thats almost assuredly due to his preoccupation elsewhere than this NES.
Best Storywriter: Didn’t get many stories here, I’ll have to go with das.
Luckiest Player: JosefStalinator, having France handed to him on a plate, and chanced upon an Indian ocean ripe for conquest.
Most Cunning Player: Symphony D I’d tell you why, but I don’t rate my survival chance if I do ;).
Evilest Player: Symphony D. You know all those rebellions – those were over the nicer stuff he did...Honorable mention to silver 2039, who really wanted to be evil but only rarely got an opening.

Nation Awards:

Greatest Power: Taken together, the Holy Roman Empire is the strongest power block on the planet, but would likely have trouble mounting an aggressive war, whilst the UKGBF have by far the greatest power projection and are only going to get stronger as France recovers.
Greatest North American Power: Acolhuan Empire the Affalonians may be more technologically capable, but if the Acolhuans could reach them it would Zealot rush them into the dust.
Greatest South American Power: Incan Tawantin Suyu not much competetion though.
Greatest European Power: The Holy Roman Empire as whole obviously, then the UKGBF as the strongest single power.
Greatest African Power: The Kingdom of Iberia ;).
Greatest Middle Eastern Power: Whilst on their last legs, the colossus of the Ottoman Empire still can claim dominace.
Greatest Asian Power: Ming China with its colossal population and vast (and steadily growing army) the Ming seem ascendant once again.
Biggest Rise: Hard to say, probably have to go with Britain going from a foggy backwater to having the most powerful force projection on the planet
Most Influential Nation: The Ottoman Empire, one way or another they affected policy and culture from Lisbon to Kyoto.
Most Surprising: France, for lasting so bloody long.
Longest Name: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and France, the alternative “Second Plantagenet Empire” isn’t snappy either ;).
Most Screwed-up Nation:
Strongest Army: The Sudlichreich
Strongest Navy: The Plantagenet Navy, with the Ottoman Navy a close runner up. White Malaya has the most professional Naval force
Largest Nation: The Qing Empire
Smallest Nation: The Papal States
Strongest Economy: Again a three way tie, the Holy Roman Empire as whole is probably the greatest economic unit, the Plantagenets the greatest commercial power (and more powerful than any single unit of the HRE), and White Malaya as the richest per capita.
Most Technologically Advanced: Joint between the Südlichreich, Burgundy and UKGBF. Malaya would have had a scientific revolution pretty soon though...
Most Patriotic: the French before the act of union, now probably the Russians.

But anyway we good a good number of turns done, and I hope people had fun and would consider joining my NESes in the future.

Your NESes are great except for the fact that they often end abruptly. But at least this one got somewhere - to the beginning of the end, though not to the actual end.

And now onto the awards – with categories shamelessly stolen from das for the most part

I'm increasingly fatalistic and apathic about this stuff by now. ;)

stunning acts of audacity

That's one of the things that made this NES particularily fun for me, though I made lots of embarassing miscalculations during my "SAoA"s. Especially the one with the Pope.

das for starting wars with all his neighbours.

Hey, some of them actually attacked me FIRST! :p Though I did provoke those, more or less.

chanced upon an Indian ocean ripe for conquest.

That's one of the worst cliffhangers we still have here, btw, as there still were some plans to thwart him there at least.

Honorable mention to silver 2039, who really wanted to be evil but only rarely got an opening.

I'd say that the slaughterhouse he transformed France and parts of Aragon into was a very nice try, too. Still, I do agree that Symphony won this time. As I said a while ago, silver is really slipping lately, despite occasional attempts to go back to his evil routes. I dare even say he is becoming sane. ;)

I really think you should do a BT and then another IT for this, afte determining the outcome of the wars one way or another. Turkey is doomed, but this setting still has tons of promise. The New World remains undiscovered, the UKGBF is on the ascendant, the HRE is on the march south and the Indian Ocean area in general is likely to have lots of interesting stuff happen there, especially if White Malaya continues to be succesful as it is.

I can't believe you killed it.....This was one of my favorites :(. Oh well, if you continue it then I'd like to keep Inca (if it continues to exist).

lurker's comment: This was by far the most fun NES to lurk there's been for a while...I hope it continues.

New game, since presumably I wouldn't get Russia (having handed it off to silver at the 11th hour) and nothing else much in it currently (or for the foreseeable future) interests me.

I call dibs on America in that map you posted.

Most Screwed-up Nation: <blank>
I demand another award for pile-driving Russia into the dirt! ;)

whilst Symphony D.’s military ideas were top notch.
Please. They were losing me the war. Should've gone for quality first...

Yea, I wasn't very persistent...gotta agree there :p
