[RD] Diversity of Safe Spaces

Hmm, I admit this is a new one, usually reactionaries seem to think Tumblr is the place from which all this stuff emanates.

Tumblr is Reddit's (ableist:redacted) little cousin. Where Tumblr is teens, teen-minded adults or teen predators, Reddit is full-blown shigella.

Some subreddits are worse than others, but "reddit" as a whole is so huge that making such generalizations about it is ridiculous.

Clearly doesn't spend enough time on r/cricket making jokes about Glenn Maxwell

Some Republicans are worse than others, but "Republicans" as a whole is so...

See what I did there?

Probably not.

I see what you tried to do, certainly. I also am sure it would be waste of time explaining to you why you failed.

The demographics of Reddit are overloaded with no-life people, crazies, bored losers, etc. People with things to do are doing those things, not babbling on Reddit. Therefore, there is a gross over-representation of ignorant people, fringe lunatics and trolls. It's awful, it's diarrhea. There's more sense in any given Yahoo article commentary. I am not surprised you rise to the defense of Reddit.

Is some of it ok? Dude, I couldn't venture to spend time to actually find these "good parts" to which you refer, but if you like them, they're probably ridiculous leftist, echo chamber circle jerks to any rational person.

That's your idea of "ris[ing] to the defense of Reddit" eh?

You're far more likely to encounter an "alt-right crazy" on reddit than a "SJW shill" if we're going down the generalization route.

Either way, seeking a definitive source for a philosophy seems rather silly when the discussion is about what the philosophy is and its place in our society. Does your opinion or perspective change whether it originated on reddit or Tumblr? How about LiveJournal? Maybe it started in an alleyway in the bowels of Atlanta? Does it matter?

You're very confused. The real number of alt-right are in the low-tens-thousands, maybe 30k tops. You couldn't fill one decent-sized city with them, all collected internationally. Here are some legitimate numbers.

http://www.redstate.com/streiff/2016/11/21/yes-alt-right-exists-can-say/

They are a loud bogeyman blown out of proportion in the media. They have zero candidates at a state or federal level.

The SJW fad is literally (not SJW "literally", but literally "literally") millions. They are insulated America eating itself, because things are going so good they have no real battles to fight. None of this bs is going to matter if "stuff hits the fan" in a real international conflict, as a matter of fact they'll be pussified dead weight, crying that the invading (whomevers) aren't giving them equal tapioca pudding time.

You know, it would be really great if we were to the point in human societal evolution that this wouldn't still be a real possibility, but we're not. We're just not there yet to suffer and support this. It's unreal. They're pushing too hard against something that needs more time. It's going to break us.

So, no, it doesn't matter?

Does what matter? That you're hijacking a thread and moving goalposts? That you're cherry picking one sidebar of the topic on which to grill and bother me? Not to me, no. I know you'll be right in your head and it doesn't matter what I say or present. It's the way it's always been in the past, why should it change now?

Does it matter that we discuss anything? Does anything matter but your agenda and you you you you you you you you you and things which remind you of you?

I'm sorry I compromised your safe space, ADH.

You can't. I didn't report you or move to have your position struck from the record or even suggest you should be silenced.

And, no, ignoring people doesn't involve safe space, not that I did that today, either. It's about censorship of uncomfortable or inconvenient truth.

You could stop screwing up the concept if you want to be snide about it.

Nothing here is my safe space. Actually, I'm surprised I haven't been banned on trumped-up charges again, so far.

The conduct of discussion broke down when I asked if the source location of 'safe space' theory mattered and you went into a diatribe about the 'literally millions' of safe space advocates who would die if they didn't get their tapioca pudding and that this leads into me having some explicit self-absorbed agenda.

I was responding to your first statement. The latter part of the post is where you started moving goalposts. Am I still allowed to say "people being obtuse" around here? Isn't that, like, giving them credit for not being rock stupid? Some kind of euphemism thing?

Or are you just that intent in weaseling some route to being correct?

protip: Backtrack and say your little brother was on your account. That's the old school method.

It seems that the goal posts are right where you left them. My question does not move them or expect them to be moved. You made a point of claiming the origin of safe space theory and I am asking if this origin matters to your perspective on the value (or lack thereof) of safe spaces. So far, it seems like your answer to that question is 'no' but trying to get a definitive answer from you is instead getting me personal attacks rather than a yes or a no.

Guess you'll have to just tingle in suspense.

I'm not certain why you are so passionately resistant to this to the point of insults and digging your heels in the mud about it.

But, it's certainly your choice. I cannot force you and don't want to force you either. I hope your day turns out okay, friend.

Ohhhh , no. You are not my friend. Don't add "liar" to your list of screw-ups here today.
