DMI VI - The Mearas

@ lucky -- you need anion's guide. it's got a great keyboard layout for all the hotkeys :goodjob:

Lucky I am now back in the loop from my trip away but as you have the save play it and I will slot back into the roster as required.

Ralph

Ok, Ralph, as you wish.

I had a good look at the save. We need to start thinking about National Wonders. I suggest National Epic and later Globe Theater in Edoras. If my calculations are correct, it has 15 excess food, meaning we can hire 7 specialists working the 2 mines and still grow. 9 if we don't work the mine. I don't see any other city beating that.

The Heroic Epic I would build it in Helm's Deep, and not wait too long to do it.

Ex-London seems the best for Ironworks (it has Moai already).

Not sure about Oxford, but maybe the gold-gems city (forgot the name now). Decision about Wall Street can probably wait to see if we are lucky enough to control a good shrine soon.

Although we are in Representation, we are not running any specialists now. It's odd, but I do understand why. We simply have too many too good tiles to work, and cities to grow.

I put some thoughts into the city locations and agree with all of them. The razed city spot down south is good, but maybe not necessary, and it is compatible with the signed ones.

I will probably start my turnset in a couple of hours, will check back to see if there is any imput from the team.

Agree with National Epic in Edoras. Probably good place for Globe Theatre as well unless we want some city to concentrate on whipping units (maybe ships).

I think Helm's Deep has way too much hammers to be our military pump city. I would put Ironworks there and build Heroic Epic in Aldburg.

I'm a noob, but what's the actual purpose of Globe Theatre? I build it in some less important city or GP Farm that doesn't need another national wonder... I know it can be used for a Great Artist farm...

Is it the cause of whipping? We have so much food that maybe it's not a bad idea... But after Emancipation is widely known we won't rather keep Slavery, shall we?

We would also miss out the Bureaucracy values of the capital... Are we going to move the Palace from Edoras?

@Winth:

The Globe Theater removes all unhappiness from a city, which is the major handicap for unlimited growth. The GP Farm is not limited to a Great Artist producing city (although this is the main purpose if you aim for a Cultural Victory). Consider rather that it can be used for any type of Great Person. If you run Representation this becomes very attractive (Rep Scientists give +9 beakers each before multipliers, so 6 Scientists are worth 54 base beakers !). Whipping/Drafting is another use for the Globe, but you only will consider this if you lack a good Heroic Epic City and then combine the Globe with West Point. We don't lose out on Bureaucracy, it just makes the city overall stronger.

Imhotep

@ Imhotep

My wife was watching "The Mummy" the other night and i caught the end.

Your name had come up. :crazyeye:

was the line: "Be careful of Imhotep. He shall file legal writs demanding the halting of production!" and then brendon fraser smote him

I hate to do this but since my time is more than up I have to write a quick report.

(my excuse if anyone is interested)
Spoiler :
had to buy (after finding it) a new AC adapter for my laptop, was away from the town... finished turnset more than 12 hours ago, but had to catch a plane and come back to work...

This was a quiet turnset, but with an important event: We learned Optics and sent caravels away, making our first (eer... second) contact.

During the first few turns we heard the Church of Nativity was built, and someone says we are 4th in power (out of 6).

We finish Chicken Pizza:

I let a barb ship pillage our nets :smoke:

We take our revenge next turn

We finish some more wonders

We get a great engineer:

We also finished NE in Edoras this same turn, and you can see our next GP is due in 7 turns (Parthenon effect too. And we hired 3 specialists in Edoras, one of them a merchant that I now think it is better to convert into a scientist).

Same turn we learn Optics and immediately upgrade 2 trirremes to Caravels. I sent both west because it was faster to build another one to go east (due next turn).

During my last turn we found Chinese lands...

Seems they have only 3 cities:

I am not sure if this is still the case, but I learned it is good to gift in first contact to get +4 bonus. I try a "fair" trade first to get something more than the bonus, intending to maybe gift something later:

And we get the +4 immediately:

I took Drama because the more I look at Edoras the more I want Globe there.

A look at Chinese capital:

And at the amazing water tiles at Ex-London:

I say we save the engineer to rush a wonder in a hammer-poor city (possibly a national, like Oxford). Statue of Zeus is still available. I only started the Colossus, the other wonders were already being built. In fact, this whole turnset was fairly easy after the great setup left by Meiz and the team (settled all the cities suggested, built some Courthouses, economy is recovering fast).

I had some ideas for the story about the caravels and meeting Qin, but I had only 4 hours sleep last night, It's 8pm here and I am still at work writing this... I realy need to go get some rest.

The save is attached. I realize I should have posted a picture of our lands...

Edit: and here it is (new settled cities in the south)

Thank you for the compliments :) Looks like a very good turnset, nice wonder hoarding. Alltough first trade gives nice bonuses, there's also a risk that we get negative attitude from other unknown civilizations (traded with worst enemy). Personally I prefer to make trades after I've found all leaders. Can't take a closer look right now so more comments later.

Does Ralph want to take this next?

Not much to add. We get a GP in 3 turns. If it's a scientist, I would bulb part of Education.

I've also changed my mind, Helm's Deep looks like a good candinate for HE.

Yeah, I thought about the wort enemy thing, but my (limited) experience is that this penalty fades with time (as the pluses from trading as well), allowing us to choose our friends even among those with this inicial -4.

About the HE, your suggestion of Aldburg is good too, we just need to make this decision immediately IMO, we are going to need troops soon. BTW, I think we are in a great position to get Astronomy from Liberalism and start an overseas campaign soon.

I added 2 more workers, we now have 10. I think we could use some more.

Ok this is my got it, will have a report up on Friday night.

Ralph

Oh dear. I guess that Qin Shi Huang took advantage of our growth stunt. Still, I am sure that those cities will pay off... :)

BTW, have you got some screenshots of our two possible HE cities? (I could get the save and check, but I am expelled for this moment from my Civ4 computer)

Eomer approached the king head held high and sword by his side

“What news of the Mark my Son” asked Theodred

“We have erased the orc threat from your lands and they grow and prosper. The lands to the south are fertile and their mighty herds of horses will bring new blood to our lines and seat many fine riders of Rohan”.

“And our teams of advisers what progress do they make”…..

“Having mastered paper they are going to look into this Elvish Philosophy nonsense that Qin hinted at and they are itching to look at more formalising the training of the Rohirrim to capture and spread the lore of old to all 4 corners of the Mark”

“Good news son and the expedition to the Greyhavens?”

“We have dispatched our finest sailors to the West and East to search for the Elvish homelands and indeed many strange folk have they met. However rather than being true to the strength of men and honour they worship some strange gods who we have yet to comprehend”

“Elves ehh, they look to other worlds and deities to resolve their issues rather than a fine horse and a sharp sword, but nevertheless whilst they are true to us we shall be true to them… But if those pointy eared ones get any ideas they will discover the might of Rohan may sleep but is easily awakened to vengeful wrath”

Start off with a very strong economy which will soon see us leapfrogging past the AI..

Well we will get some sort of a GP out soon but decide I will puzzle out what to if it is not a scientist when we get to that because there are to many options on the table.

Decide not to break our Caravel monopoly as we can research through to liberalism fast enough so turn down these sort of offers.

In 1070 Ad we do pop a scientist who partially bulbs Education.

The same year the Apostolic Palace is built. With Buddhism well spread we will need to be careful of it spreading to our lands and the sneaky AI voting themselves a victory. It would be typical elvish trickery whereas we shall rely on more conventional routes to victory.

1080 AD we meet Pacal, now he hasn’t got Civil Service which is a tech everybody else has so take the opportunity to pick up Calendar and Construction for it..

1090AD Philosophy in start on Education to Liberalism we pick up a nice random event especially when the 50% comes in and helps us with Printing Press

Meet some other people

1110 AD Qin vassalises to Hannibal who could develop into a powerhouse..

EOT

We have unlocked Globe Theatre and started it in the Capital, Helms Deep has finished Heroic Epic and are busy building universities et al as we are running out of other worthwhile things to build.

Most importantly we are at the Just Press Enter stage for liberalism. I would take Nationalism to unlock the Taj as Qin et al maybe close to finishing Nationalism them selves

Should get circum bonus next turn

Economy is looking dominating

The world

We are making good progress.

We should start thinking about permanent alliance. Hannibal seems to be the strongest leader. He has also vassalized Qin. Does that affect in PA's?

I would switch research to Nationalism and take Constitution with Liberalism. Beelining to Democracy would give us a major lead with fast cottage growth.

Dunharrow seems to be best candinate for Oxford University.

Do we want Forbidden Palace in our island? If so, i vote for Ectbatana.

I don't know if i'm up or not ~ I can't make sense of htat roster, but I'll be OoP until i get back Monday night, so I could theoretically be on deck ~ good luck :goodjob:
