DMI XIV - The Code of Junil (FfH)

True ssmage, but I still say razing the city is the correct choice.

a) We can use the money we get to fund 100% research and thus get Order faster.
b) We are really tying up defense units if we keep it.

Look at the power graph. Charadon has not only better units (his Sons of Asena have copper weaponry already), but also more - he leads with about 60.000 in the soldier count. We have to get a lot more units over the next two turnsets, or the Doviello are simply running over us.

Lurker's:

Until you find out where the Order holy city is, you'd better make sure all your cities are suitable for building the Mercurian Gate and then being the Mercurian capital. So no red dot yet.

Charadon is in WHEOOHRN. The relations screen says he's Cardith's worst enemy. So maybe they're already at war. Although that seems unlikely given that the Lucian stack is standing over by the barb city. But Cardith may be pushing Charadon's borders, since Cardith likes to build settlers and has the expansive trait.

So I'd send your next settler to WWS of the sheep with 2 escorts, walking along the hills. It overlaps with the barb city and misses the silk, but by itself is a very good site. I'd leave the barb city alone for now. Even though it's on a hill, I think capturing it would cost fewer hammers than a 220H settler to replace it, and yield some XP. Worst case you'll lose it to Valledia, but you don't know how close she is. I think that outweighs the pillage money, since I don't think you're in any danger of not founding Order. Meanwhile I'd send all your other spare units including the fogbusters to Trinity immediately, in case Charadon attacks it. Alternatively I might just keep the barb city, but that gives you a couple fewer units for Trinity in the very short term.

Got it, will take the full 48 I think. Barb city will burn.

if it's okay with our illustrious leader, i'm gonna take a swap with Ozzie.

besides building more units and burning the barb city, what else should i do??

well, hopefully i did okay ~ I played until t135 which was just a bit less than 20.

In Torroolerial(sp?), i focused on warriors after the settler finished. At trinity, I strated a temple, then realized the Elder Council might be better. That's almost done, but teh temple is still in the queue. then, at vallus, we got the council, the courthouse, and are working on a courthouse for now. I MMed to stopp growth there too as we're at the happy cap.

and a picture show to help you all out. first, here's me razing that city:

Hey, we're not dead after pholky's set :D . What a relief :p. Btw, Courthouses are a no-go right now. Soldiers! We need soldiers!

the capital can spit out warriors in 1-1-2 turn increments. I built a bunch. each city should have 4 defenders, except the newly found one. plus, there should be about 4 or 5 units wandering.

and, shut up, you!

18 warriors seems OK so leave things alone and see how it turns out.

We meet Cardith couple turns in.

The warrior that discovers him gets eaten by a spider next turn though.

We have a religion, I assume we want to adopt it (is definately in character) so do.

I head research to Animal Husbandry but leave it there.

Bronze Working selected but no beakers invested. If we want to head straight for the gate, Priesthood and Fanaticism are all we need.

We could do with some more cities as well.

We will convert our 4th city next turn and have an acolyte left over as well.

I think we need a slightly better army before we head for the gate. I would pick up Bronze Working + any tech that unlocks someone with 4-5 attack (EDIT: huh... Training Yard already does that, silly me). It's not a total waste as we will still have it when we switch over to the next civ.

Sorry; I have been a little busy these days. Will play and report today.

  • Imhotep << UP NOW for 20
  • pholkherina << JUST PLAYED
  • Ozbenno
  • Xenoborg
  • Meatbuster
  • ssmage
  • Monkeyfinger << ON DECK for 20

Played 19 turns to bring us to the nice number of 165 turns. Overall everything looks fine, I think we shall have some Mercurian fun soon enough :D .

Good news straight into the set: Charadon is busy with the Kuriotates.

Seeing this I ordered up another Settler to fill the nice spot besides the Remnants of Patria. And I started Valin Phanuel, of course we could have tried holding it back until we switch and build it then, but as no one has a religion yet, the possibility of a spread is not neglectable - especially once we build the Code of Junil. And of course Valin is a suberp hero, who may help us in an upcoming war.

And who needs culture anyway...

Yes, we heard you, but we'll soon be Angels fighting the Dark...

Bronze Working came in, and I heard that lovely plink sound - meaning our warriors have been upgraded to Bronze Weaponry and thus strength 4 (apart from some stray fogbusters who had no promotions).

Valin saw some actions already and razed a barb city. I was thinking about keeping it, but it's far away, and is not in the ideal spot anyway - 1E gains an additional fish.

Please promote Valin not at all, or if you do, along the Drill line - we want to give him Blitz and Mobility I + II later...

A event without any effect:

Cardith asked for OB, declined for now...

Warfare came in. A debatable choice, I know. But it's on the way to Military Strategy and the free Great Commander, and MS unlocks Blitz too. After that I started on Priesthood for unlocking Fanatacism, but we could as well squeeze in Currency, Military Science and Festivals - we're #1 in GNP anyway.

The new city. Remnants of Patria are awesome.

Garrim sports the model of Golems now - Barnaxus...

With Charadon being busy with Cardith and us the clear #2 in power I have no fear about an invasion right now.

The demographics look great overall.

Monkeyfinger is UP, have fun! :)

#1 in power, eh? must be all 'dem warriors i built.

okay, and explain the "darkness is coming" msg, please??

and does Rem of Patria give us anything??

Lurker Comments
Remnants of Patria give, iirc, +3 Happiness in the Nearest city and additonal hammers on the plot at the discovery of Feudalism, and another tech whose name escapes me.

The Darkness is Coming message occurs at AC 10, and precludes the start of the world into the fall of Armageddon.

As for the dead woman Event, you should have selected the Houseguard- both the Husband and the Butler are both residents of the city and are more than likely to have longstanding contributions while the House Guard is new- nothing is known about him and this makes him the most likely suspect. Plus, the fact that the weapon of choice was a Hammer- why would the Butler chose to take out any frustration on the Lady with such a blunt instrument, when he could just as easily poision their food or through any number of subtle actions, while the House Guard probably used the weapon of opportunity (the hammer) to enact one of Aeron's perverse pleasures and gain favor against one of the Bannor's upstanding nobility.
