DMOC's DEITY Game #1 - Gandhi

Masonry first while getting the settler out then archery. Get archers and settlers going from city #2 while city #1 goes wondernuts. I only play on Monarch so I'm not sure if that would be the best idea, but it's what I'd do. :) Good luck!

If barbs are that much of a worry you could always go for the GW. 2 workers would quarry that stone in 5 turns. GW should be built faster than you could have gotten a stack of archers. And besides if you build the GW you can run that espionage game Quotey was hoping to see. :)

GW on deity is almost impossible unless you research Masonry FIRST or SECOND (and only if you have correct starting techs). Gandhi is actually one of the best for getting a quick GW (he starts with Mysticism and Mining for Masonry and BW) but I already researched Fishing and even if I get masonry as my next tech and get a worker out, I will have about a 1% chance of getting the great wall done. Deity AI's might build it from 3000 BC to 2500 BC.

GW is a possibility but losing it would be very bad. You have two wonderbuilders (Cyrus and Stalin) on your continent so it would be a gamble. It would be a very sweet price indeed on this map though I think.
I would probably go archery though since as you say you've already researched fishing and you don't have a worker yet though you could always whip one and start prechopping then switch whatever you're building to the GW once Masonry is in.

It is a gamble... but isn't deity all about crazy gambles? :crazyeye: Either way, don't get bogged down building lots of archers or you'll lose your REX mojo. If the AI wants you dead it'll make you dead regardless of how many archers you build.

I don't think deity is about crazy gambles. And certainly not in the strategy and tips forum. The value of such a thread is in strategies that work in other games too. So, if you think the chance is small don't build it.

Get the cities you can and go for the mids.

Another Deity thread post: now I only have to find a way to win on emperor consistently myself :)

I would say you should make big gambles on deity only when you have to. If you don't have to you probably shouldn't because lost gambles are punished more severly on this level than any other.

Agreed, you just have to play very well and be a bit lucky in the beginning of the game. An early rush on you is often game over.To lessen the chance of this happening play a Big_and_Small map as Rusten suggested some time ago, i've tried these a few times and indeed you often have some more room to expand, also as far as i have seen all the ais are always reachable with a boat making these maps a bit easier than fractal, very good for the beginning deity player. If i have time to post an open challenge again i'll probably present such a map.

Having said that some deity games are incredible difficult without an early rush too, it can be very difficult to stop an early runaway ai for instance especially if your own land leaves something to be desired. But this is where playing very well (including a well thought out gamble) comes in of course.
