Sometimes? For most people, that is a once in a lifetime occurrence...if this is happening regularly, you might want to get it checked out.

Lucid Dreaming I think is the term.

This is not lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is when you become aware of the fact that you are dreaming without waking up. Lucid dreaming is not usually a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Soon after you fall asleep, do you then suddenly jolt awake, as if someone just smacked you across the face? Often this is associated with an involuntary jerk of the knee, and a rush of adrenaline, for me, anyway.

So, do you do this?

Why does this happen?

Back to the OP, it's called the hypnic jerk. Thank god for psychology class. :p

Yes it has happened a bit to me but omg...

I sometimes wake up and cannot move, while my dream is projected into real life.

I get exactly the same thing, usually if i try to nap during the day ill be drifting up then i wake up but my body is still asleep i can consiouslu make noises like groans, and the missus wakes me up if shes near cause i told her to.
I call it sleep awakening and it usually happens every two weeks or so, i agree it is kinda scary like u can open ur eyes kind of and look around and your still dreaming though, and if you try and move any muscles its such a effort and very painful, you know whats going on and I try and wake myself up by holding my breath or groaning to get someone to wake me up as it can last a while like a few minutes where your bodys paralysed but your mind is kind of awake.
Im glad someone else has got this issue as i thought i was a freak and people would laugh at me if i told them and said i was dreaming but i know this is not the case....
Is there any cure????

I have heard of similar things being called sleep awakening so thats why i called it that, like they where going to get a operation and they where still awake or something. Maybe I should look into it as I know that im not the only one that suffers from this.

That only happens when I'm napping. When I intend to sleep for the whole night, it never happens.

I had a term mixup, I meant sleep paralysis, which was what Godwynn was going through. I remember reading that SP was a once in a lifetime thing for most people though.

of course
at first, i thought it was my dreams making me do that

but in 1-2 instances, it happened to me, before even anything happened in the dream (but something major is about to happen)

Most likely due to some form of respiratory distress while sleeping.

I do this too, also I sometimes "hear" a loud snap or other strange noise which I have to assume did not really exist.

Nein, ich mach' das nichts.

The closest thing I can remember is being really tired and dozing off, then jerking awake.

yeah, happens often to me, though usually without the adrenaline rush, my whole body just takes a leap and I'm awake again for a few moments.

Yes, when I dream about something falling on me or smashing me (like a train) or someone's fist.

Sometimes I dream that I tripped up, and I wake up because my reflex response to the trip has actually happened. Never otherwise.

I sometimes do, however my sensation is more of falling, as if im falling out the bed or something.

A friend told me it's a reflex, left from the time people used to sleep in trees to avoid being eaten by animals, to avoid falling down from the said trees.

Its when your body starts to shift and your suconcious, or whatever it is that's awake when youre out, takes over and stops you from rolling over too fast.

That same reflex is probably what keeps us from falling out of our beds, I roll around a lot in sleep, but I havent fallen out of my bed once.

Yes. This happens also to me. It's just as if my mind is awake, but my body is sleeping. I cannot move at all, and I generally try to get fully awake, but it's not so easy.

This has happened to me but very rarely.

Yeah, its harder than calculus. Do you ever get out of it on your own or do you just wait it out?
