Exactly! Everyone's got this whack idea that anyone can go to college, that anyone can succeed in college for that matter.

Some people just aren't cut out for it, and a lot of people would probably be surprised by how many people don't have degrees. I heard one statistic that said only about 43% of adults have degrees as of about 2005.

I believe it is around 25% for Bachelor's and above.

Actually, many people said they wouldn't use the degree to pick, so I consider that the same as picking the guy, because it's possible that they would.

No, as I said previously, going to college does not make you become an intellectual. But most intellectuals go to college, because they recognize the value of a good education.

I've met a bunch of people with "Haaaaaaarvard" degrees and found my opinions of them lower the longer their mouths were open.

In contrast, there are some very intelligent people that haven't gone through the process of the high school diploma/GED or a college degree either because of extenuating circumstances, they weren't yet through the process, or because of other decisions that steered them away from completing that cycle ASAP or at all.

But I will say, on average, people with degrees are more likely to succeed. Yes, we can talk about the exceptions and who did very well in a trade or starting a business, so on, so forth. But looking at the entire picture, the chances are more likely that having a degree will lead to a degree (I'll say that's no pun intended because that's a horrible pun) of success in dollar amounts (which still don't mean absolutely everything).

But they are equal in other ways, so none of those are possible. Basically, they are identical, except that one guys has a positive factor, so there is no reason to choose the other guy, no matter how small a positive you think it is.

I answered yes because I believe on average people with degrees are more intelligent and successful, though obviously there are exceptions.

I did not answer question 3 because I'd value friendship over education in regards to chosing my best man. Of course the overwhelming majority of my friends either have degrees or are working towards them, so chances are they'll have a degree.

It depends on what you count as a credential. I personally don't count the interview or personality as one of the credentials, just an extra factor. But when you look at it that way, the thing seperating them is the degree.

It doesn't matter. You don't know anything about their personality or the interview and you can only make a decision based on what you know. The only possible way to answer the other way is if you believe there is a negative correlation between a college degree and the quality of their interview/personality, which seems silly. Now, if it was a 30k per year job, I might favor the one without the college degree, just because the one with the college degree would be more likely to be dissatisfied and leave for a better one.

I suppose it'd have to be a case-by-case basis for myself. I'd be in one hell of a dilemma if I were hiring and two candidates were exactly the same (yet the degree would have no bearing on the qualifications).

Mocking a reviled college major does not somehow prove the rest of them are "useless". And in any case, most decent colleges have distribution requirements, so a gender studies major will still have to take math, science, etc.

Course not, any ****** can get a degree these days- it takes a certain something to be able to work a 90 hour week as say a nurse.

Though to say i judge someone with a degree less is also wrong, i just wait for someone to open their mouth before i decide on them.

Jolly good for them. Money isn't everything.
