DoC Domination Challenge

Is Conquest even slightly possible on any version of RFC anymore?
I remember razing the world with Ashitirru Bowmen back in the day.

I had an idea actually.
Shouldn't Conquest theoretically be possible if you have only your capital city and roam around with a big army razing everything?
It probably would need to be coastal though, so you can wipe out places like England, the Mesoamerican civs or Japan.
I might just put this to the test; get a capital with a good production base, run Absolutism and start razing everything.

No cities left behind ... well, except some vassals ;)

^That is just plain brilliant.
I once almost got it as Persia (I even made a S&T thread about it): Only China, Japan , the Khmer and the Incas were left. All of Europe just burned

Yes, but .. I mean, why? I think it looks cool when your 1 city controls all those vassals...

There's some sort of profound appeal to me in being the last surviving Civ on earth.
What's the earliest conquest victory anyone has achieved?
Mine doesn't really count because I exploited the Babylon Bowmen-move-through-jungles/marshes bug.

Prussia 1960, score 4528

Just to show that even a casual Civ player can achieve a Domination win ...

Coming back to Civ IV after a longer hiatus, I noticed that Prussian Domination hasn't been recorded yet, so I gave it a try (latest 1.9 SVN) ...
Germany was probably the easiest RFC domination next to Rome, but with the late Prussian 1700 start and an evolved Europe around I thought things would be much harder.

It turned out rather easy, though ...

Some notes:
- I planned to vassalize Russia, but they didn't care about a dozen ICBMs, so I ended up owning half of Siberia.
- My only voluntary vassals were Aztecs and Japan, and neither of them wanted to expand anywhere, so I had to grab all the land by myself.
- Berlin is useless since you want Frankfurt, Königsberg and Budapest to turn into solid cities, so just don't found it.
- Quite contrary to my previous domination tactics, my only American city was a late conquest of Los Angeles, which convinced America (with a little help of a nuked Washington) to join my ranks.

Decent 3000 start with just 1 junk city (Shush) and Greece giving me some extra units after losing Jerusalem.
Babylon as the cradle of Christianity was a nice bonus.

A short campaign against Persia taking Persepolis and a gracious offer of undefended Shush to a barbarian horse archer gave me a solid tech and production setup.
All the Euros were instantly offered peace and left to deal with themselves.

From then on no surprises:
- taking over North America and India
- supporting my vassals Inca, England, Mali and India with techs and cities
- crippling every Euro on the rise (Dutch, Spain, France)

A quick finish right after starting golden age mode came when China capitulated at the first sight of my tank stack.

I had been too lazy to post this, but here it is.

Nothing special in it. I decided to go against Spain according to the old UHV. I then continued to France and Italy. Meanwhile I fought of the Seljuks and Mongols, whom I made peace with in exchange for Nanjing.:king:

Then I just helped my vassals, especially Incas, Aztecs and Mali to expand their territories. Other vassals were China and Ottomans.

I settled the hotspots in NA, caught up the tech and conquered France. Vassals were America, HRE, Russia, Portugal and Greece.

I conquered all of Italy first and then went after the HRE. I burned Wien and took Budapest. Turkey had just spawned and took Constantinople in front of me, but I declared on them too and took it instantly. HRE collapsed and France declared war on me, but I had rifles and cavalry by then and I conquered Paris, Bordeaux and Marseille quickly and capitulated them with Brest and some colonies remaining. Surprisingly they survived to the very end. England peace vassalised, since Vikings had taken Newcastle.

After beating France Russia declared war on me and I took Kiev and Moscow from them, which was enough to collapse them. China peace vassalised and I capitulated America, by conquering some France's lost cities back to them and blitzing New York. I gathered some troops and declared war on the Ottomans + vassals, apparently they had a defensive pact with Germany, so I had to take care of them too. I rolled over the Ottomans and turned up the culture slider to get enough land. This time my vassals (China, America, England and France) provided more land together than I by myself.

I did this a while back, but forgot to post it.

Initially I conquered Kiev, Italy and Greece and let France take Frankfurt and I began to practice my troops against the Frank reinforcements, so that they would be prepared for the Prussian spawn. I was ganged up by Turkey, Vikings, Russia, France and Spain for a while, but managed to repel all their stacks.

Eventually I crashed the Prussians and conquered France, Spain, Scandinavia and capitulated Russia. Egypt, Iran, Peru and Portugal were other vassals.

Reval? Didn't even know that spot existed, lol. I think I should try it out sometime.

That used to be one of the optimal city spots when playing as 'old' germany in regular RFC. Other ones being Frankfurt, Gdansk, Budapest and Kiev.

Do I spy Thai in the Caribbean? Was that a gift or did they really go out of their way to capture an indie city?

They did it all by themselves, since they aren't even my vassal. I have seen them do it once before though, here.

Since I like the classical civs, I decided to improve my previous Greece domination. In regular RFC I have won with Greece before the Ottomans spawn, but here it wasn't possible. Anyways it was a nice game and I had a terrific tech lead throught out the game. I.e. I got Medicine before the Black Death and so on. England, France, Spain (capitulated in the end), Thailand and Ethiopia were my vassals.
