DoC Domination Challenge

I didn't have that many cities early on, so I was able tech really fast from 500->1500. Then began to expand more and my tech rate slowed down. I also used GPs to bulb early techs.

No score because it was a continuation of my UHV win, but it's an early date!

Very different from Jusos's game, as I didn't attack Spain, juste expanded in the new world and seized essentially all the good settling areas, and eventually turned them into an economic and industrial juggernauts.

The expansion into Europe (athens, paris, bordeaux) and the vassalization of china were wars imposed on me by congress results, and defensive pacts with russia that I made to protect myself from congress votes against me. I was actually surprised when China offered to surrender after losing only 2 cities and a dozen units, as I still had 6% population and 4% land to go.

Apart from that, it was an essentially peaceful game, with Biology opening up a few more areas to settle in South America (Panama, central Brazil) and Africa (Nigeria and 2 congo cities).

I improved few other records as well, here is Mongolia.

The trick was to collapse once after conquering China. This reset my stability and I took back the empire in couple turns with the new Keshiks I got from the reconquered cities.
I also managed to vassalise Russia early, which is always welcome.

1846 domination win

No score as this is yet again a continuation of my UHV win.

Not much to write about as domination is relatively easy for France if you can get the UHV and be stable. In the screenshot, it seems I massively overshot the requirements, but that's because I just capitulated Russia and I was getting close already.

Big stability issues at the end, I suffered a -45 swing over a few turns, london revolted (kind of a non issue at this point but still), and I had to pull my golden age ace out of my sleeve.

The think that Mayans are more difficult than in RFC, or then I just played poorly.

Anyways, the trick is to avoid the conquerors by turning the New World/Old World around by discovering the 'New World' first. Alas, you still get the plague..:( (Speaking of plagues I have never had as many as I had in this game. Is that intentional??)

To do this you must utilise your UP and spawn at least one GE and one GS, I spawned two of both and was able to quickly tech some needed Classical techs before entering the Middle Ages and losing my UP. Then I used the GPs to bulb the needed techs towards Optics and off you go towards the New World!

After that I settled the hotspots in NA and tried desperately keep up in tech as the Mayan research rate is abyssmal after the UP ends. Anyways I managed to hurry the CR and got my levees and factories up in order to get at least some troops out. Then I capitulated America and rolled down to South America to crush the French, Dutch (Incan lands) and Portuguese. Spain's respawn and vassalisation to me triggered the war, but I was already preparing for the invasion. I airlifted troops to Spain to conquer French held Madrid and Lisbon for Spain and Lyon for Italy (peace-vassalised earlier). France and the Dutch tumbled down and collapsed as my allie Germany took Paris and Amsterdam, while I was crushing them overseas.

Ethiopia and Iran also vassalised to me, because they were fighting the same enemies (France and vassal Portugal + England and vassals Thailand, Egypt and Mali + the Netherlands and vassal Indonesia + India). Yes, the war declarations took minutes; check pics below. Anyways, I used their lands to airlift my troops into Africa and India and lured them into conquering some of the cities. Their progress was so slow that in the end I had to take some by myself in order win in time. When got close to the land treshold and made peace, the only remaining enemy, England for Hastings and that was enough to win.

This was rather succesful game and I doubt that this can be improved by much, since Mughal stability isn't that good. I abandoned one previous try as things weren't going as I planned.

Anyways, from start I conquered rest of India and continued towards Middle East ignoring Persia. I took Baghdad from Turkey and razed Niveneh after which they capitulated. I continued towards HRE held Constantinople, since it was the catholic holy city and I wanted catholicism to Varanasi (In the end Varanasi had 12 wonders and two shrines). Around these times Russia respawned and vassalised:king:.

I sailed to the New World, grabbed triple conquerors and took the Aztec and partly Mayan lands with them. After that the conquest paused for a while, since stability was becoming an issue. Anyways, close to 1775 I had to start colonising the NA, so I took Persia with Mausoleum of Maussallos and triggered a GA. I had collected GPs and I figured that I can have a Golden Age until I win and turns out that could; it lasted 72 turns (1x12 TM, 1x12 OP and 4x12 from GPs).

I was still barely stable, so I had to rely on my vassals (Russia, Turkey, Inca and Ethiopia) to get the rest of the land, so I fed them, mainly Russia, with settlers and managed to get the land before the GA ended.

It seems that I have completely ignored them, but so has everybody else, since they don't have a domination victory yet, which I find very surprising.

EDIT: This qualifies as one though.

Domination with Russia is most likely easier than UHV, unlike the other civs (with the possible exceptions of England & France).

I think the point of this thread is "Let us win a more challenging victory than UHV", which is why Russia is not included here.

I am very, very excited to post this because during the game,
I improved my play by ALOT and more correctly understand certain vague tips and tricks that helped me to achieve this victory.
Previously, I could only achieve Domination with China + Western Euros, but I've stepped up my game.
Presenting; my Phoenicia Domination Game!

Monarch, 3000 BC, SVN Revision: 431

Finish Date: 1850
Score: 9159

Vassals were in order: Spain, Portugal, Inca, Vikings, China

All vassals were voluntary.
China only vassalized after I voted for Japan to steal a coastal city from them (Fukushuu). Seriously? That's all it took? I was trying to vassalize them for decades and losing a city was all it took?

Anyways, strategy:

Settled Kition so I could use The Great Cothon to great effect.
Rushed Greece with mercs, kept Athens and Byzantion.
Greece eventually collapsed and then I gunned after Rome.
Collapsed Rome, did some razing and then the rest actually is kind of hazy
In no particular order though, I vassalized Egypt and Persia and took a lot of techs off of them, settled an additional city in Illyria south of the German spawn, endured the Arab, Moor, and Turkish flips (with the Turks, I sent two Riflemen to attack their Caucasus city and they moved out a bunch of troops after I committed an attack (9ish & 1ish health Riflemen! And they didn't counterattack!) and I stomped on their last Longbowman. The Turks respawned the next turn but had no city and only one Axeman. They wandered around for like 30 turns without any cities until they collapsed. Typing in stream of consciousness here.... I maintained 90%-100% on my tech slider for most of the game after reading some of blzzrd's and morff's posts in the vanilla RFC forum (thanks guys!) and switched to totalitarian civics when I was ready to wage war. Shoot, I don't even know what else! I'm so excited!
That was an insane war though, I was fighting against Russia, Austria, France, Dutch, Japan, Aztecs, Prussia, Iran and a few others all throughout. It was seriously intense.

The one-turn after victory map. China would've taken Seoul on the next turn.
Japan collapsed right after my victory and I liberated their cities to China to keep my stability up. Other than that, I have not really pursued post-game.

(Jusos, I beat your score and your time ;) [Please don't beat mine ])

Good job!:goodjob:

As I like the classical civs the most, I currently thinking of doing Roma at some point, but I'll leave Phoenicia alone; for now.:D

Here's a challenge for you then!

I settled the capital on the pig SE of the starting tile.

I declared war on Greece on the 2nd turn, grabbing athens and constantinople. I also settled Salona in the balkans. I conquered Carthage with mandate troops, killed the settler that was about to found a 2nd city in north africa. Then made peace with phoenicia.

I stayed at war with Egypt pretty much the whole time without conquering anything, just harrassing them, to prevent them from building classical wonders. I didn't want to capture egypt or mesopotamia because I figured stability is the key with Rome, and escaping the arab spawn unscathed is no guarantee.

I stayed at 6 cities for the longest time. I built pretty much all the relevant classical wonders (except Temple of Artemis, Egypt managed to build it). I waited on the HRE/Russian spawn to settle more cities. When the flip turn was done, I settled Varsovia, Kiev, and Revalia (Talinn). I then invaded France when the 2 turns delays was up and added Bordeaux, razed Paris and founded a new city 1 NE of it, great site. Now at 11 cities, I was done expanding for a while, until I had the relevant techs.

I bribed spain into a war against HRE, pounded their military into the dust leaving one damaged unit in every city, and spain eventually conquering them, freeing up the BFC for the cities near germany's core. I then disbanded the cities as they flipped to my culture, thus avoiding stability hits from razing or owning them.

As for vassals, I quickly ended up with Britain and Spain, but to my dismay, they did very little to expand even with Astronomy very early and feeding them settlers. I invaded Russia since they would not peacevassal, and after a long time killing units, they finally capitulated. I then mass fed them settlers and they did a pretty good job providing land toward victory.

I only had to reject the turkish flip. Despite their huge military, I feel it's one of the easier to deal with, as they start without a settler and culture will throw them out before the flip. Eventually they walked all the way through Anatolia, and once at the door to Constantinopolis I hit them with a massive knight army, and they capitulated right away. I then fed them obsolete units and they conquered a fair amount of land from all the indeps.

Once I had Cristo Redemptor, I settled NA and SA, to get the resettlement stability bonus without anarchy.

By proceeding carefully and slowly, stability only rarely and briefly dipped below zero. I think a few turns could be shaved off the win, especially if Russia would peacevassal. If so, then I think up to 100 years could be shaved off the current date.

Y U NO get Drama? Too many vassals making Happiness trivial? You could have made England research it for you. Also the Patronage free Artist is useful IMO.

Actually England or Spain researched Drama for me. They only traded it to me around these times. It isn't that useful until you begin to settle new cities and I haven't yet. In the minimap you can see my settlers traveling to the right spots in NA. Patronage doesn't need Drama and I researched it ages ago for the GA and especially for the Leaning Tower.

I played it pretty safe, so the finishing date wasn't as good as it could be.

Anyways, I begun by taking Greece and Carthage. I focused on teching with 6-7 cities until the euros spawned. I crushed France as soon as it was possible and settled the two monster cities there. I also razed two of HRE's cities to keep them weak. Spain, Vikings and England peace vassalised after that and a bit later Russia declared war on me. I took Kiew and with my troops at the gates of Moscow they capitulated. I turned around and helped Russia to take St. Petersburg back from HRE.

England got Aztec conquerors and Spain Incas and they both settled the New World with dedication. I also fed Russia with settlers and Iran peace vassalised, so after culture bombing the NA, I got the land.
