Does anyone remember laughter?

What the hell is with all the clapping when comedians say something funny? It drives me crazy. Since when does a funny joke elicit applause, instead of laughter? Its like: What youre saying isnt funny at all, but we'll be polite and applaud at the end of every sentence.

It's because it's become a full-body laughter. You've heard the term "laughing from the belly", right? Well, if I'm already laughing from the belly, then clapping just adds to the vigour of my motions.

Considering it a good thing. We're slowly evolving to the 'full-body laugh'. Chances are we'll become energy beings shortly there after.

I cant imagine anything worse for a comedian than hearing polite applause at the end of every joke (even if the audience is full of energy beings;) )

I have been told that I rarely laugh. This seems to be the case even when I hear something funny. I never smile either. This once led to a funny conversation at work - one of my coworkers mentioned he had never heard me laugh, and a female coworker agreed. "But," she said, "I have heard you snore." (Only because we shared a morning class in which it was common to fall asleep. But her comment was misinterpreted.)

So if I ever saw a stand-up comedian, I would have to clap - I naturally don't laugh and need another way to show my appreciation.

Laughter? That's that cackling sound people make when someone gets hurt in an amusing way, innit?
Laughter? I'll tell you about laughter before Mr. X beats me to the quote:

Laughter is a devilish whim which deforms, uh, the lineaments of the face and makes men look like monkeys.

More on topic: Here they play a mixture of laughter and clapping, i think. Why they bother to do either is beyond me ,though. A bad joke gets only worse with laughter track.

I'm a belly-laugher. I mean, I belt it out. Sometimes my eyes cringe and I have trouble breathing. There has even been a time or two where I shuddered with tears in my eyes, laughing so hard.

In fact, those scenes that made me laugh so hard still get me to chuckle when I think about it.

Laughing is fun. It's more fun when you let it be fun.

People accuse me of never smiling. I put it down to them being too transfixed by my gorgeous eyes to notice my lips.

In my case, it is because my face is not very expressive. When I 'smile' it just means that the corners of my lips are slightly upturned. When I put a lot of effort into it, this is the result:

Pretty freaky, huh? I mean, that would give small children nightmares.

There is too much applause in general. We could hear a state of the union speech in 1/3 the time without all the ridiculous, posturing applause.

Of course if it were up to me, every audience would shout "WHAT?" after each line like a WWE crowd.

I know what you mean but if ive laughed incredibly hard at something then occasionally i clap, only if its live though never at the tv.

I'd be prone to clap if I appreciate it for being a clever line even if not the type of funny that would make me laugh. At a stand up comedian that is.

Luckily there's plenty of laughter in the real world :)

Exactly. In chimp language, the same exact sound means a 'Did you see that hyena bite Ugs ass? I thought I was gonna die!'

Fresh out of Led Zep references. Would you settle for some cowbell?

Now that would be funny! People at home politely applauding the TV:lol:

I read something once that said people dont laugh out loud when theyre alone, only when around other people. Its true, at most when watching something funny alone, I might make a sort of quick barking sound.

Eran, a word of advice: stick with applause. j/k

Well, ok, but stay away from clown make up, it might bring about Armageddon:lol:

People who never smile are scary ;)

I would definitely clap at a stand up comedian along with laughing at the end of a story or the show, that's like if there's music and you dance the musicians take that as an obvious sign you're enjoying it, but you can still clap and/or holler between songs.

Eran has the deer caught in the headlight look - frozen in panic because the camera was pointed at him ;)
