Earth on the verge of Mass Extinctions

What makes you think humans will go extinct? Last I checked, we're dependent on technology, not polar bears.
We're also dependent on food, water, insects, plants & being able to maintain a temperature between 50-90 degrees F indoors (to many soft Westerners between 69-71).

So far I don't see anything that can't be solved with technology. So we'll all be living in air conditioned buildings eating genetically modified "food" grown in greenhouses or labs. Unless the water turns into water vapor and somehow leaves the planet, we'll be able to get it, it's just a question of cost. Last I checked, most of the problems with climate change were cultural and economical, at least for us.

Well, Neanderthals lasted nearly ... what, 500,000 years. The only reason why we're likely to go extinct is because of self-modification.

And you don't think the disruption caused to resource-gathering by a global environmental catastrophe- with all the ensuing political and economic effects- could make creating and maintaining that technology just a little bit tricky?

No. If WWII didn't, no century long taking change in weather patterns will either. It will actually encourage innovation if history is repeated.

I am not even sure why you chose that comparison, or what strange breed of logic it runs on.
