ENES: Abandoned Stars

Friendly reminder - deadline is today. I have a huge exam today, so don't expect the update to come right after the deadline. ;)

How many orders do you still need anyways?

Writing my orders right now. :)

EDIT: Orders sent!

TO: Trans-Planetary Unified Coalition of Viginti Venti
FROM: Commonwealth of Interstellar Domains

We have transmitted the data accordingly, and await reciprocation of payment.

TO: The Dragon Empire
FROM: Commonwealth of Interstellar Domains

We are most thankful for your moral support, and look forward to engaging in trade.

OOC: The most ridiculously overdone tactical orders ever have been sent. Along with the rest of them, of course.

And ze update?

I am working on it. It is over two-thirds done and has been delayed by an exam, a band engagement that I was hauled into with two hours' warning, a chemistry test, and a biology hand-in. Everything seems to be conspiring against me.

Rest assured, I will update, and I will continue to keep this NES running.

Very well just wanted to make sure this NES hasnt suffered a DARPA Chiefish death.

(Waiting...)

I wonder, are there more NPCs than Lord Bob?

No.

Update is "done", I'm now checking it for errors by doing parts of it over again. It will be posted tomorrow. (If in the future you wish me to instead post the update early and correct it later, sing out.)

Also, so you know I'm working on this, I will not post in any other threads until I have posted the update. (Haven't been doing so, either.)

It will be posted tomorrow. (If in the future you wish me to instead post the update early and correct it later, sing out.)
Personally, no. I'd prefer to have you post an update that you feel proud of. Take the time you need.

Whatever I'm not sleeping at all.....damn school work.

The end of the day is drawing near... We await the update...

It's only 5PM, lots of time left to the end of the day, give the guy a break! :p

Well, it's in on the day, which I suppose means I'm entitled to moan (for instance, about the accidental stat duplication that made me get two different results for the same faction, and then I checked both of them, and I had to do them over again anyway since they were different) instead of apologising profusely.

Of course, this means you get to moan away, too. I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes hiding, since although I went over the stats multiple times, some of it was done late at night, as you may tell by the time of this post.

UPDATE:

First of all, the Jagannatha Concordance expands in its corner of the galaxy...

”Dear mother and father. Our first month on Hamal has gone reasonably well. We have made the transition from living in the ships to living in underground burrows. However, storms of multiple natures still rage across the planet's surface, and we are unable to effectively activate the factories left behind by the Old Dominion. Communication is limited to a few times a week, but our lives are prosperous where we are. I hope your Avrias arrive soon, and wish you the best of luck. Yours with love from your first child.”

After enduring incredible hardships they have managed to restore some measure of industry and organization to the floating citadels of the slurry planet, and now are expanding outward, and seeking to restore the glories of the time of the Devas, and enjoy their own time in the sun.

And on their "west" front, at least as seen from a galactic map, they encounter the Aquarious Agricultural Corperation, now under the leadership of its third leader in as many years.

--Captain's Log. Stardate whatever, everyone knows it's the four-month anniversary of Elective Ifriet's ascension to power.--
--A ship by the name of Rahu hailed us today during our exploration of the system Provisonaly classed as 'Aldemar'. It was from the Jaganata conordence. They were peaceful and we signed a treaty subject to revision by our respetcive Leaders. We outnumbered them but none of our ships were armed. It's boring now.--

To their north, more aggressive paths are being pursued. The T'au Empire has moved to Acubens in force and reactivated Imperial Republic factories in the Eltanin system, now called Bor'kan.

"Cera to La'Shi Honorell. The ship that was transmitting to us is now in range. Confirmed as belonging to Mobius Roverius."
"La'Shi Honorell here. Fire at will. They are unwilling to submit to the Greater Good."
"Yes sir. Firing now. Shas'la!"

All of the castes follow the Supreme Council on Tau of which Aun'Va is the leader of. All Tau are willing to sacrifice their lives for the furtherance of the Greater Good.

However, with Mobius Roverius being paralyzed due to a massive governmental failure involving illegal drugs, mistresses, bribes, and just about everything that could make a government fail, they have been unable to mount any sort of effective resistance. On the plus side, some nasty STDs led to the single government funded project this year being some medicinal developments.

Description: Mobius Roverius is a society developed from a school of thought developed by a man by the same name. The Timeless strive to become perfect beings of mind and machine, flesh and graftings. Prior to the Great Disappearance, they were widely regarded as terrorists due to their activity to harass, disrupt or inflict damage on the conservatives and purists. They settled Sanctuary, and entered a stage of complete isolation, giving up their dream to change the world. Now, the Great Disappearance has swept away the world that disdained them, allowing the Timeless to make their own paradise.

Hence we go straight to the Dragon Empire, which is resettling multiple systems and rediscovering Imperial Republic technology. Well, rediscovering Imperial Republic technology, at least. Attempts to settle Kitalpha have gone very poorly, due to the large numbers of mutant species running amok on the only habitable planet. The "base" they have managed to establish on the planet lost half its troops in the first month before managing to seal up a defensive perimeter. What few factories are defensible are consumed in producing reinforcement materials for the base and the remaining troops. Fighter patrols buzz the area regularly, shooting down mutants with ease, but new ones bleed in from the surrounding areas continually.
(OOC: Which part of VERY HOSTILE didn't you take seriously? -180 infantry.)
Resettling of Porrima has gone slightly less poorly. The "weather", if indeed it can be called such when it consists often of metal splinters or electromagnetic bursts, is so hostile that the attempted settlers' work on reactivating factories is continually confounded and undone.

Porrima: 1 "Ant" class Scout, 1 "Wolf" class Cruiser
Kitalpha: 2 "Ant" class Scouts, 1 "Dragonfly" class Carrier, 60 “Sparrow” class fighters, 120 infantry

Researched technologies: Honor of Muffins, For Love of Milk
Currently researching: Splendor of Cake (4 Production invested, over ¼ complete)
Description: The Dragon Empire maintained their ancient Chinese culture on the world of Long, holding on to old traditions, and this prevented many of them from disappearing. Now, their new Emperor rules by obvious Divine Right, as shown by the disappearance of the old government, and has instituted a new form of ancestor worship, of ancestors truly disappeared.

"Polaris Lander to Polaris Command. You've been collecting planetoids for three days over schedule. Are you done yet?"
"Negative, Polaris Lander."
...
"Polaris Command to Polaris Lander. We're ready to initiate bombardment. How's the orbital cycle?"
"On time, as you might expect. Incidentally, we just confiscated three alcoholic substances from the lander crew. Neither of them match normal patterns. Sign of hard boredom. Suggest you launch now."
"Affirmative." - "Polaris Command to all ships. Initiate planetoidary bombardment. Match velocities within ten percent. Second round in eight."

Pushed by various propulsion devices, a thousand rocks began falling towards the defense system protecting Errai Prime. Certain death for anything on the surface, but it was uncertain if the satellites would outmaneuver or destroy the rocks during their descent.

"Polaris Command to fleet. Second round inbound. Launch emitter drones and warheads."
"Polaris Lander to pilots. Take off and prepare to fire."
"Polaris Command to Polaris Lander. All good on my end. Dazzle at will."
"Affirmative. Polaris Lander to Inundators, launch and fire sand and dazzlers."

It was the sort of hugely coordinated assault one could only mount in space. Various results of CID ingenuity followed tons of dumb rock towards Errai Prime, where satellites from the Imperial Republic attempted to defend themselves through simple firepower.

"We have mass breakups from defending fire. Activating emitters now. Sand due to hit any moment."
"Polaris Lander to Inundators, attack on my mark. Three, two, one, mark."
"Planetoids impacting. Detonating warheads."
"Scanners reporting massive damage."
"Satellite defense network seems too crippled to effectively return fire."
"Inundator Blue Leader to Polaris Lander. Inner ring is secured. You may descend."
"Negative on that, Lander. Inundator Red Leader here, we're taking some damage. Two – three casualties so far. The planetary surface looks holocausted."
"Polaris Command to leader units. Report."
"This is Polaris Lander. We have reached orbit level. No fire, repeat no fire."
"Inundator Red Leader to Polaris Command, satellites appear to be destroyed or retreating."
"Inundator Blue Leader, confirm that."
"Confirmed."
"Polaris Lander to Polaris Command. Planetary surface appear to be destabilized. No safe landing points apparent."
"Polaris Command to fleet, sensors report that satellite defense network is no longer a threat to us. All local units disabled or destroyed. All satellites in the northern hemisphere have pulled back to the southern one and landed. It appears to be a response to overwhelming assault."

The "Polaris" fleet found that similar retreats had taken place on the two other defended worlds. Landing parties reported no resistance in the northern hemisphere. One month later, a similar assault over the south pole caused every defense satellite to ground itself. They must have landed in hidden bunkers or similar, because no intact satellites were found on planetary surfaces.

Description: CID is the result of the victory-by-default by anti-Imperial Republican forces following the Great Disappearance. Composed of several unique factions and Imperial Republican remanents, CID displays remarkable flexibility in both government and society; its origins as a diverse rebel movement have familiarized it with survivalism and democracy, and as such it makes good use of its diverse pools of talent in all possible fields, and is generally inclined to talk first and shoot later. Unfortunately, these same diverse groups, and their mutual suspicion leads to many checks and balances and distributions of power, making it more difficult to react quickly or efficiently, though the system is generally stable.

Not to mention that the CID has been scouting extensively, encountering the ICARD and the Jagannatha Concordance among others.
Meanwhile, to their galactic west, the Ventese have begun arming their ships for a possible conflict in the future.

Trans-Planetary Unified Coalition of Viginti Venti (Viginti Venti)

[Viginti Venti]: 1000 infantry, 1 Scout, 90 Fighters, 2 Carriers, 2 Cruisers
Kornephoros: 2 Scouts
Lesath: 2 Scouts

Researched technologies: Guided Missiles, Worker Specialization

Description:
The Viginti Venti System had a diverse society and many different cultural elements, but one of the few things all had in common was the extensive and successful use of robotic automation. With legions of mechanical factories, 3 planets were terraformed, and moons, asteroids, and gas giants were mined to provide for the needs of the human settlers.
Human civilization in Viginti Venti nearly ended immediately when the beating heart of their societies, robotic automation, was torn away. No one wanted to go into the dangerous mines or work the clumsy bellows or stoop to clean the urinals, but it had to be done.
Some say the loss of the robots was a magnificent blessing for the human race; others decry it as the worst tragedy to occur in the history of Viginti Venti. It is not yet known whether the Ventese people will attempt to return to their old ways or find a new method of survival.

The Eldar are arming themselves with lasers, though. One of their Carriers tried to shoot away the pollution in the populable Steropean world, failing quite miserably as not only are lasers quite poor at cleaning up pollution, but also because Carriers are virtually unarmed.

And so to ICARD and their fellow researchers at the University, both off in the "northeast" part of the settled galactic region. ICARD has attempted to settle the plague-ravaged world of Alnilam. Security measures kept the colony safe for a few months, but eventually one single slip-up wiped most of the colony out, and the rest have moved to an off-planet quarantine ship.

Description: ICARD was perhaps the most cutting-edge research center in all of the Empire, constantly pushing development the borders of AI capabilities, FTL travel, social sciences, you name it. Really bright people were drawn there by the incredibly intellectual atmosphere and luxorious research facitilies, not to mention the pay was rather good too. Needless to say, the researchers at the centre themselves enjoyed the most cutting-edge technology in all imaginable forms. Thus when the disaster struck, almost the entire faculty was gone, along with a good deal of the facilities themselves. Left behind were a few old-fashioned goons who still conducted their research "the old way", not too seldom in social sciences, and a large number of promising young adepts and interns, highly intelligent but also very inexperienced. Most of the low-level staff was still around too, as well as some of the guards.
Being naturally inquisitive it didn't take long for the young would-be researchers to start salvaging what could be salvaged, tinkering, investigating, and just generally thinking hard. Now they are re-organised, new temporary low-level re-search facilities are being re-created, and it's time to re-discover the galaxy!

And the University Network gets little attention since it is last on the list...

Description: The University has always been pushing the boundaries of science, counducting all manner of unethical, immoral, and evil research. This has earned its wrath of the Imperial Republic and forced them into hiding. Now many years after the Great Dissapearance, they have emerged again ready to pursue research unfettered by outside motives and meddling. The brilliant, the unethical, the talented and the reckless will surely find refuge at the University and embrace it as their home.

Umm, any particular reason for this "massive governmental failure"? You did get my orders, right? I was one of the first ones to send them!

Nice update , although it wasn't quite what I had hoped for...

And it's sure to spark some more questions (Lesath for instance), but I'm too tired now, better take it tomorrow when I can think straight... and when you've sent the maps. ;)

I'm sooo sorry :p Just the fact that it was the only option I had :p

Fine. I guess I was just unlucky that I started in the middle. If luck really had anything to do with it.
