ENES: Abandoned Stars

OOC: Assorted questions repackaged and sent; awaiting reply.

TO: Long Di Guo, Trans-Planetary Unified Coalition of Viginti Venti, Iyanden
FROM: Commonwealth of Interstellar Domains

Greetings and well met, fellow survivors. We are the Commonwealth; our intentions are peaceful. Our capitol is Sol and we give notice that the Imperial Republic is gone. We are interested in establishing cordial relations. We have been informed of your existence by the Mobius Roverius, and are interested in obtaining stellar data you might have acquired since the Event. We are willing to reciprocate with our compiled data should you be so inclined.

To Commonwealth of Interstellar Domains
From Dragon Empire

We would be willing for such a trade of information.

OOC: Erik, I think Dragon Empire is better than "Long Di Guo" mind changing it? ;)

To T'au
Will you allow our unarmed Scout ships to pass, inexchange for us allowing your own unarmed scout ships to pass through our systems?
but we will respect your territoyry and not send and millitary ships into your systems.

More answers to questions:

You can research multiple techs in one turn, as well as trade for multiple techs in one turn.

In the same spirit as these clarifications, you can not trade for a first tech and research a second tech that requires the first tech in the same turn.

If I this turn research Protocol Recognition, can my ships move across two (friendly/neutral) systems in my orders for this turn?

If I this turn research Active Shipyards, can the ships that I commission this turn be moved this turn?
No and no, same general rule as above.

Any non-Scout, non-Fighter ship can be used to claim a system with the expenditure of 10 PP. The ship is not consumed. It does not have to stay in the system that turn. All it has to do is jump-start the colony by functioning as command post for a while. (Or for whatever other reason you feel like writing in your stories. Remember, I apply benevolent ignorance in most cases.)

You can trade and pay Production to one another. However, trade will increase the Production of both of two factions which are trading. You can not trade ships, though. Blame differing ship designs and systems. ;)

HOSTILE systems are, technically speaking, settlable without removing the hostility. However, it's likely to damage your settlement, sometimes destroy it. So, you really should remove hostilities. There's no 'fasit' on how to clean up such systems. Come up with creative ideas.
(Norwegian fasit: The list of answers in the back of a book of problems.)

Once I get less lazy, I'll put up a tech tree with descriptions of advanced tech and full effects of basic tech. Look for it sometime during the week.

Which reminds me:
Deadline should be one week from most recent set of clarifications, around Monday 11th.

What about my stronger hulls!!??

Diplomacy of Viginti Venti

To Commonwealth of Interstellar Domains :

Greetings in turn. We agree to your proposal to exchange cartographic data, and the information will be sent shortly. It is comforting to hear that the ancestral home of mankind still flourishes.

To Iyanden (Eldar):

Greetings. We seek to establish peaceful and productive relations with your people. We believe that one of the first steps that must be taken to ensure that is that we can come to a consensus on the future of the Kornephoros system. We suggest a joint sphere of influence, where we each retain control over the Gate to our respective existing spheres of influence, and we split control of the system's resources and volume appropriately.

To Dragon Empire :

Hello. We hope we find you in health. As a sign of friendship and peace we desire to establish permanent, formal diplomatic relations with your state. We also wish to inform you that the star system known as Lesath will be coming under the control of Viginti Venti, and movement through that system will be regulated by our provisions and standards. Presently, we are allowing unarmed scout ships to move freely through the system, and soon, when the proper measures are in place, we will also permit the movement of civilian and mercantile vessels. We intend to fully respect all good-faith claims of jurisdiction made by other responsible elements of humanity, so please inform us of your intended sphere of sovereignty.

Thanks a lot for that Eric, it was all as expected. One thing I didn't quite understand though, regarding trade:
You can trade and pay Production to one another. However, trade will increase the Production of both of two factions which are trading.
This sounds like some sort of generic trade treaty, is that what you're after? E.g.

"Oy there Clones, want to start trading with me?"
"Sure, why not."
=> Both factions get a PP boost.

If this is indeed what you mean, then is there still a more specific kind of trade that involves PP, as in

"Oy there Clones, how much would you give me for my brand new ideas on Unobtainium Hulls?"
"Well, how about 50PP, that enough?"

While we do this for the Greater Good we also propose a possible exchange of maps to perhaps alleviate the need for each other's scouts in each other's galactic territory.

From the Ta'u Empire

Greetings in the name of the Greater Good. By the great power of Aun'Va we bid you tidings of respect and friendship. We propose that we send some Por'vre and Por'o negotiators to meet where our scouts have found each other. There we could perhaps discuss our future relationship, and the possibility of a exhange of galactic maps.

Cleric, I have no idea what hulls you're talking about. :p

Yes and yes. You can buy and sell tech for Production; factions in contact with gate speed great enough to go back and forth in one turn will automatically get trade boosts unless either group chooses to boycott the other. (Merchants usually don't wait for government treaties before they begin trading.)

Greetings, fellow academics. We here at ICARD know to value knowledge and progress above all, and believe you are equally wise. We also know that progress is best served by peace, and we hope to uphold peaceful diplomatic relations between our two states. We will not infringe on your territory, in Alpha Centauri or beyond, and we assume you will likewise leave us in peace in Alnilam and beyond.

We also strongly believe in exchanging ideas between our two states. Would you care to negotiate an exchange of knowledge?

OOC@Cleric: Contact me via PM if you're interested.

OOC@Erik: :worship: Brilliant, makes total sense.
(But I just can't seem to run out of questions, so) By "going back and forth" I assume you mean between any two colonies that the respective factions own (i.e. not just the home worlds)?
Will trade benefits be dependent on things like colony size? (I would hope not, as it could make things a bit too complex for you to calculate each update ;))

Greetings fellow researchers. We find your faction ideals to be in accordance with our own goals and ideas. What do you say for an exchange of maps and perhaps at a later time a Treaty of Friendship and exchange of techs. How about a Trade Treaty and map exchange for a start?

Unacceptable. The system shall be placed under Eldar Control.

OOC: Please review my Weakness.

OOC: Kal'thzar, if you're going to be a bunch of haughty supremacists, you should at least deign to decline offers instead of not replying at all. :p

From Viginti Venti to Eldar :

The Kornephoros System is of strategic significance to both of our peoples, thus both of us benefit by compromising. Our initial proposal was sensible; we can only assume that you had good reasons, unknown to us, to reject it. Very well-- offer a suitable counter-proposal that is more acceptable than your last one.

ooc: Indeed. I had read your weakness.

We would prefer to discover the univers on our own. for discovery is one of those joys that is a rare joy.
also, there is sucurity reasons concering the release of our maps. untill we are sure we can trust you, we would prefer that you do not know the Exact location of our home system. perhaphs in the near future we might trade maps, but for now, we must decline.

Spoiler :

Come see and experience the universally famous
Crystalline Caverns on Venecia!

crystalng3.jpg

The caverns are located just outside Venecia City, and we will venture there by hoover shuttle. The caverns are a neo-archaeological mystery, almost three acres in size with a total of 19.4 km of cavern walls, all consisting of liquid crystal! Theories abound as to what the original use of this cavern was, before the disaster. Some of the more believable include some sort of insta-communication device, a planetary shield generator, or simply a recreational area. It was discovered in 2 AD by wreck hunters, and although thorough investigations were quickly launched, no mention of these caverns have been found in any records, nor does anyone claim to have any knowledge of them.

Come see for yourself, and join the lively discussion!
