ENES: World of Magic II

Is that map official ,TerrisH? Or are we allowed to shape the topography of our starting locations as it pleases us? W00t! Time to boot up Paint!

Yay! As soon as I get home I'll do it.

@Warman:I think you can only spend one point in raising eco. Check the rules.

If I get orders from Cleric, Warman and Kal'thzar, I can update today! :D
Deadline is still Wednesday though, so don't worry if you're busy.

Sorry to tell you this, TerrisH, but that map can't be official. Nothing's wrong with it, but I've seen too much "terrain abuse" by players in other NESes where there's a new map. (Oh, by the way, where the hell is the lich from? I'm going to pretend you never wrote that.)
So here's the official terrain&ocean map, covering all the major zones. Light green=farmland/grassland, dark green=forest/jungle, yellow=plains/wasteland, grey=hills/mountains.
All the continents are in a temperate zone of the planet, so there's no Sahara or Alaska anywhere. This is large-scale, so you still have wood available even if the nearest large forest is a nation away.
Ocean currents are stronger the thicker the arrow is. Circles are current-neutral.

You can still make up local and minor terrain features, but I've had too many cases of players creating advantageous terrain for battle to allow anything large scale, and I can't play favorites.

Magic: 10 Dark Mages - dark mages are mages warped by darkness that use magic to cause pestilence, death, and sometimes, in great numbers, summon demons.
UU: 10 Beholders - Powerful demons from beyond the realm that were summoned and bound to specific, hidden objects. They are very powerful, both physically and magically, yet are quite hard to control.
Projects:
Nation Background: German descendents of the old era, they have tried futilely to rebuild and re-create their nation of old. That is, until the Leonhard family began dabbling in magic, and tapped into the evil that surrounds the area. Their entire family was turned to evil, and began dominating their fellow settlers. Some resisted, but many more turned to this magic as a Godsend, believing it to be their answer in this forsaken land, and their chance to recreate an empire. The Germanic nation instated the Leonhard family as the head of Government, divinely (or demonically) ordained to lead the Germanic peoples to greatness in this land.

I would like to change my capital position a little bit, to this

mynation9sd.png

Um... Contempt, Warman already started there. Shall I put you on the river at the other end of the lake instead?
I've added you to Player List II.

Silver is correct in that you can only spend 1 point on increasing economy per turn. It's in the rules, and no, I didn't edit it in five minutes ago.

*goes to nag Kal'thazar into sending orders and getting AIM*

The other side of the lake is fine.

For generations the Bersians had a fear that this may happen again, they turned their back on technology and stopped any attempts to investigate what really happened.
For many years Bersia remained splintered into petty city-states fighting amongst themselves, until a small number of men (in relation to how many Bersians there are) appeared in western Bersia, they possessed fearsome powers and used these powers conquer Bersia and crush all resistance. Bersia was finally united at long last, though by a strange group of men claiming to be Gods.

This from the person who says "the Trinity Star System has a series of 3 Stars, a Pari of Yellow Suns Orbiting each other at the Center of the System, and very Dim brown Dwarf almost a Light Year Away." :crazyeye:

To quote Star Wreck: The Pirkinning, "This is the light ball loader, what do we do with light balls?"
If you spend eco on Science, you already have specified the field. :crazyeye:

Update today, most of it is ready as I post. Kal'thzar had better send orders.

P.S. It's incredible how many players I got, and how many of them are trying to sabotage each other already. Be on the lookout.

UPDATE 1 – A.Y. 131

“Grog smash!” -warcry of the horde that invaded Roddyna

All across this new world, humans are beginning to take destiny into their own hands. But with nationhood comes responsibility, and a people to be defended. As people start looking to their leaders, war arrives.

Roddyna, land of machines, preserver of technological sophistication, is attacked by large, brutish, green-skinned orcs without the patience for tools more advanced than clubs and axes. Like a caricature of all that is primitive, they assault New Moscow.
Czar Roddy is swift to muster a militia and drive back the “orcs”. Hunting them down ruthlessly, he wins a great deal of followers, and many of the settlements in the nearby region accept him as leader.
(-300 infantry)

Black, nauseating winds blow in over Arkopolis after the death of their King. Leering faces start to haunt the population, and finally creatures of air and darkness materialize in the streets, cutting people down while they laugh.
But Queen Galenna takes personal command of both the army and the mages, and scours the streets, driving out ever last one of the abominations.
(-100 infantry, -1000 population)

The Pantheon of Olympus, becoming gradually more powerful as more and more people believe in them, order their people to claim the surrounding lands. The very ground resists them, rising up in waves of dirt and golems, so the Titans are sent to patrol the new regions and quite literally stamp out any opposition.
(-2 Titans)

Northern barbarians once again assault the Blood Elves. They seem to have gained strength during their rest, so military takes some casualties driving them off... for now.
(-300 infantry)

The Church also has its troubles. Red, horned, fork-tailed, fire-breathing creatures begin challenging their authority, torturing those who try to be loyal to the Church. The newly formed order of Holy Knights marches forth to do battle with them, providing a glorious example of the might of the Church to the common men.
(-2 Holy Knights)

The Techno Union is assaulted by humanoid figures of mud, stone and wood. Whenever they are killed, they crumble, releasing a noxious cloud of dust.
(-200 infantry, +1 bored mod who's tired of writing long descriptions)

Shining white metal men, reminiscent of the golems that allegedly served the Ancestors, start attacking New Illryia. What weapons the New Illryian army has are rather ineffective, so the Phantom Warriors are the only ones who can deal with the problem.
(-3 Phantom Warriors)

Dragons attack Seleucia, carrying off maidens and old men alike. The government is unable to deal with the threat effectively, as the small army they assembled for defense can do nothing, and no coherent force of sorcerers has been organized yet.
(-1000 population)

The Cammane City-States face a rather different enemy, an unknown one. They have been spreading a mysterious plague through the river, a plague that only affects the Things That Should Not Be. All are showing signs of sickness, some have degenerated into lumps of soggy biomass. Some citizens report sighting mermen in the river, but the Bursar always said things like that. (TGIL will get this one :p)
(-3 TTSNBs)

Political intrigue among the different houses of Telvanni turns into open fighting in the streets as a wave of blood lust spreads among the private armies that each house maintains. No one knows quite where to turn to find the source of this.
(-100 infantry)

Spies are sneaking into the magic laboratories in the House of Leonhard and disrupting the objects that demons are bound to...
(-3 Beholders)

Storms blow up on the coast of Bersia. But these are no ordinary storms. Every hour or so a wave breaks loose, rolls up the beach, and begins stalking into the capital to wreak havoc. The pyromancers are able to evaporate these elementals after a while, but they are too few to be everywhere at once and so there are several casualties.
(-200 infantry, -1000 population)

And finally, in the far northeast, Lady Gorie has set herself up as ruler of the nation named Rolangaregorol. Her people accept her as leader at first, but begin to grumble and consider rebellion when she throws fits of paranoia and commands that the hitherto unheard-of city of “Gtchkcthalaranjaregnarolrafanga” shall be their capital city.
(-1 culture)

Spoiler the paranoid people :
Absolutely nothing happens to the secret nation that doesn't exist. I didn't even write this. :mischief:

Story bonuses:
Silver Steak +1000 infantry
RoddyVR +1 culture
TerrisH +1 Science

Diplomacy:

From New Rome
To Telvanni
We will conquer this new world, and none shall stand in our way. Why don't you become our vassal?

Surely there are no gods on top of that mountain. Let us go up there and see for ourselves.

From local settlements
To The Church of Warman
Protect us from these monsters!

Mappo in next post, whoever posteth between the update and the mappo shall receive meteors from the sky.

EDIT: Problems uploading el mappo, whoever posteth between the update and the mappo shall STILL receive meteors from the sky. In the meantime I will update stats.

Next update is probably on Saturday. If you're all as good as sending orders as you were now, it may come on Friday. If I have problems, it may be delayed until Sunday, but don't think you can get away with late orders for that reason.

Stats are updated. I'll get to the NPC stats in a moment.
