Fall Flat Release

I'd like to see Fall Flat united with Fall Further+... suppose, that'd be a good complex thingie.

I've been playing Orbis so I only just now installed Fall Further, with patch N. I wanted to play with Fall Flat but it sounds like I can't until it is updated to work the N patch. Is that the case? I don't have the previous version of Fall Further installed anywhere, as I said.

edit: Hahaha. Never mind, copied the the download location for patch N

http://grahamcox.co.uk/ffh/fallfurther/FF050-PatchN.exe

and then just changed it to

http://grahamcox.co.uk/ffh/fallfurther/FF050-PatchL.exe

and it worked. So I installed patched L first, installed Fall Flat, then installed patch N to Fall Further patch L.

I think fall further+ would work well with fall flat as well. Since the Legion of D'tesh are supposed to be in the cliche undead style they would act well as a foil to the Scions, especially since the Legion of D'tesh would probably be mortal enemies with the Scions and the Sidar.

Id say the Scions, D'tesh, and Sidar are all in a swimming triangle of hate. All despise the other, in a somewhat brutal FFA. I think those two are the only civs the Sidar would want to outright go over and destroy.

Hey guys. I'm at a bit of a troubled crossroads because I do not have access to the older version of Civ 4, meaning I haven't been able to play or mod Fall Further. Right now, Valk is leaps and bounds ahead of me - but if I can get back into modding I'd probably do something up for my own enjoyment if not for everyone else, and would probably do a public release.

Ideally I could work with the hamster king to make Fall Further+ everything I wanted Fall Flat to be but was cut off by various problems. As for now, I'm still in major limbo. :( I do know that for the most part the changes introduced in Fall Flat at it's last public release are probably closest emulated by the newer Fall Further (which added my changes to the Amurites! :D as I'm sure you all know and love) and Fall Further+ because Valk has pretty express permissions to nab whatever the heck he wants to.

With what happened to my computer, then the patch-mod-madness for Fall Further I look forward to assisting Valk with his mod rather than the other way around now! Hahaha.

That's more or less a reasonable facsimile. I can make it less stupid, I'm not to the point of calling it intelligent yet.

It would be great if the AI could be made less stupid. Perhaps get it to employ amphibious warfare in reasonably intelligent fashion. In fact, i cant ever remember getting invaded amphibiously in FFH2, even though i know i have seen it done in BTS basic.

That's I think, out of my expertise. I do know how to make it follow reasonable tech paths though, which gives it a much better chance to survive.

Irregardless though, once FF is updated to use the new BTS patch, I will play through it with Fall Further+ and see what I feel needs to be changed, then confer with Valk regarding it. I'm not out of the modding community for this game by a longshot - I just can't do any modding right now for technical reasons.

That's a good way to handle things like that in my experience, though.

Okay, so at present, I'm feeling a very minor version of Fall Flat coming on for anybody who doesn't want to make a total jump into FF+ to fix things like the AI getting to make forts because it's functionally ******** about them, limit arquebuses, and other tiny changes. Since I'd be making such a thing for me anyways, I wonder if it'd be any use to anyone else? If not I obviously won't post it here.

For those of you that play FF+ you can probably disregard as I'm actually on that modteam, too. I just haven't done anything useful with it yet. :P

EDIT: I doubleposted in my own thread. My ego knows no effing bounds.

well, since posting your own tweaks and fixes will most likely mean they'll get in main FF faster I say definitely go for it. after all, if you're going to do it for yourself you might as well post it here ;)

that fort thingie annoys me to no end, I'm so glad it's been fixed in other mods like Wild Mana for example. I'm telling you, the AI in that mod is wicked good even on noble, it's amazing to watch them tech and improve their lands wisely, use magic, terraform their lands and put together some kickass stacks. I can only hope that all the useful parts of his code will get into FF asap :D

one thing I'm really happy about in FF 051 btw is that it looks a lot faster than 050, which makes me super happy as it will allow me to enjoy the mod without wishing for a better computer

The fort tweak in particular I don't think is getting in - because it basically consists of either "Python check: If AI = Disable Forts" or "Disable Forts in XML for everybody." I had it done in Fall Flat, and it's not exactly complicated.

I find forts to be useful in very very very limited circumstances - chokepoints - and pretty garbage everywhere else. The AI doesn't understand these circumstances and I don't have the expertise to write an agolorithm in Python/the DLL that tells it to ONLY make a fort in those circumstances.

Usually, though, forts are large wastes of time and space for the AI.

uh, why shouldn't that make it in? what's the problem with a python "if AI, no forts available thing" ? also, I remain skeptical about the AI being wise at using the "can build improvements without techs" thingie, which just looks like an unnecessary complication, although it can be kind of useful at times.

I didn't see them having TOO MUCH trouble with the "improvements sans techs" thing anymore. I think Xien wants to fix the AIs use of forts rather than restricting them - my measure is a stopgap until they can be made "smart" enough to use forts.
