Fall Further 050 Bug Report Thread

Yeah... Fall Further keeps a nice community of people who want to help the mod run this way :)

I am experiancing a bug that causes a pop up window to apear when ever I try to load any save game. And the only option is to click ok witch crashes the game.

The window displays a message saying: Bad memory alocation.

I can load from the main meny. But if I try to load a save from a runing game, it crashes.
I am forced to get arround this by quiting civ and staring it up again to load a game.

Just now, the bug has expanded and my game crashes in a pre set turn.
3 turns after this save game (turn 148)

Also, where can i see what patch I am runing on my FF?

This isn't a MAF. This is an error loading your save game:

pStream->ReadString(MAX_PLAYERS, m_aszLeaderName);

My guess is that MAX_PLAYERS has changed size since you created this save game (ie you were probably running an older patch), and now your save game is junk.

Windstones seem to be useless became 1)they don't actually increase range, 2)they only work for recon, 3)I don't see any recon with ranged attack ability, 4) they are expensive

What I like to do is:
1) build a tracker
2) buy him a windstone
3) upgrade him to a recurve archer (Unique longbowman that has ranged combat)

I define minimal as:

Everyone who bothers to give us even a pinch of information to work with to SOLVE issues reports an ability to play games well beyond turn 500, where most sane games end. Those few people who seem to have crashes early on either tell us some information and find that it is solved almost instantly, or point out how they have only barely tried playing the mod, hate us with an absolute passion because we are obviously reprehensible, and won't play again.

Either way, things are solved quickly enough that I lose no sleep :)

Sorry, but you only got 1 out of 3 right.
Nothing personal but I am not giving up on this mod yet.
You won't be getting rid of me that easily.
And I did give you all the information I could. I uploaded the save file.
Plus I have no reason to hate you, after all you were as helpfull as one can get.
Thanks for that, starting a new game, wish me luck.

While it IS annoying because the captured workers waste their time, the roads convert to trails by themselves. There is a 20% chance per turn for a single tile of road to become a trail, so in about 5 turns you should have all trails again.

They do... it is just a bunch of wasted time is all. Not wasted time waiting on it to convert, but wasted time on them building something and then another builder building it back. I do not automate workers, but I DO usually but one or two on "Network" which simply connects resources and cities to the grid.

Alright, same bug. It breaks my game at the end of turn 100.
Newest patch, Huge map, Erebus 13 or 14 civs.
Save file attached, just end turn to crash the game.
What more data should I provide?

Your earlier report was that you couldn't open a savegame file, so this one is the same issue as that had been, after turn 100 any saves you attempt to open fail? Or just that it is crashing without further information at this turn?

Didn't crash for me, since the initial view was on a city finishing Dowsing I wondered if that might be it, have you finished it before without issue? Get an event to create a graveyard at the start of turn 101, nothing to special there.

Anyway, check if the attached works for you. All I did was end the previous turn, tell the event to make a graveyard, and start work on a Bloodpet since Dowsing finished. (BTW, good placement with the second city, secures Iron for you, but you'll want to go crush the Mazatl to the west before they get the copper outside their borders connected)

Thanks, I get the error when loading save games.

But in both my uploaded save games, the same error apears to me when I end my turn. The error pops up and the game comes crashing down. For some strange reason, the error message was the same as with the save-load bug so I thought they were connected somehow. It read: "Bad memory allocation."

Also, strangely I did not get any event when I was playing. Althou it did crash for me at the end of turn 100. Maybe it's due to Random_seed_on_reload being on.

The save game works for me thanks.

Edit:
Sadly, the game lasts for the next 4 turns before crashing again. At the end of turn 105. I have attached a screanshot of the popup I get.

Very unusual. I can't find the text for that popup, but it should exist somewhere because that is CIV style, not Windows style, so the program is generating the message itself.

What OS do you use, and what are your settings in the game (graphics, animations, resolution, sound...)? Also, do you run in windowed mode or fullscreen, and do you have much else running on the computer at the same time?

It could be worthwhile to try reducing all your settings to absolute minimal, and enter your ini file and turn on a few of the memory saving options. Could be a limitation of your hardware or a conflict with your software.

Do you ever get an error just loading a game, or is it always when the game is running that it will crash? The initial post sounded like an error when loading games (never make it to the map), but now we are dealing with issues that pop up mid-game.

Microsoft Windows XP Sevice Pack 3, full screen.
I have a prety strong machine, not a gamer PC by any means but I can run newer games like Mass Effect and Falout on maximum settings and with no problems at all.

I shall try this and post back.
This seemed to calm the game down for now. Will post back in about 10-20 turns if anything changes.

I get that error on 2 ocasions. When I am loading a save game file while playing a game already. And when I end the turn while in game.
I newer had any problems with the initial loading of the game, starting a new game or when loading a save game from the main meny or when loading the mod it self.

I had almost asked if you were fully patched on the comment about errors when loading while the game is currently running, that was a huge issue till patch I. But J broke savegames (reasonably certain), so if I can load your save you MUST be patched. Also vexing that you are on XP. Vista is a nice scapegoat ;)

Let us know how things are going with the lower settings. Ability to run other games sadly doesn't mean much for Civ. Newer games are designed for newer hardware, which is about sharing the load on components which, individually, are actually weaker. Civ was built for older hardware, so only allows 1 piece of your machine to work on it at a time, and so new hardware which runs new games GREAT can have issues running Civ still. (As I understand other discussions I have read so far)

Civ IV made me overclock my quad-core to get respectable speeds for my CPU out of it. Civ IV also has made me regret purchasing a dual graphics card, as I'd have been better off with a single-card monster.

Might be known already but I saw nothing on it in this thread. Promotion bug on Scion Archer.
If you promote a Centeni to Archer it gains Undead but keeps Alive and Unreliable. Chosen is an option for free promotion but not automatically applied when upgraded. If you do take Chosen, the unit loses Alive and Unreliable.

edit: Even though the Archer keeps Unreliable it does not however have the Bonus Pay.

To keep the performance hit for AutoAcquire SOMEWHAT minimal, it only updates at the start of the turn, and when a unit moves. So when you become eligible for a new promotion without having just moved or started your turn to change your eligibility, it shows up as a "free promotion" option you can select manually. I just had an idea on how to improve this a little bit without making an impact on overall performance, so that might change soon... But anyway, if you didn't take Chosen manually, as soon as you moved the unit, or your next turn started, he would have gained it and thus lost Alive and Unreliable as intended.

EDIT: Bah, stupid Const functions. Can't use the nifty non-performance hit approach.

I'm not seeing it here. Latest patch? (Though I don't think anything 's changed there in quite awhile.)
EDIT: Oh - seems like xienwolf may have a better handle on what you mean.

What's up with the sound when playing Scion? No diplo music, "half" soundeffects and only one song.

No idea. And I'm not sure what you mean by "half".
