Fall Further - The Original Thread

If the CtD's were recoverable, then they're likely to be the elusive one from before. If anyone has so much as a theory on those, please let me know and I'll try to track it down again.

The "freeze" (Waiting for other civilizations"?) seems to be a BtS issue that FfH has inherited and thus so has FF. I've had a look into it and not made much progress, I know that Kael has spent a lot of time on it and got a bit further, but as far as I know the root cause hasn't been determined yet.

==

The occasional CtD issue is expected to still be present sadly (though I had kinda hoped it may go away on it's own with the merge). I'll continue trying to track that down, but mostly at the moment I'm hunting for any issues *caused* by the merge with 031.

its odd though, i havent had a single ctd or had to 'Wait for other civilizations' for AGES, ive played tonnes of games and not had a single one. as soon as i install 031 my first second and third games all end in CTD and/or a freeze after reload, usually between turns 250 - 350. very very odd...

It sounds like Sto and Kael have nailed down at least one issue that can cause the Waiting for other Civilizations problem - and there are a number of people on the 031 Bug thread posting saves regarding recent CtDs, so hopefully it'll work out soon. My guess would be it's the natural "teething" period for 031. I'll keep FF up-to-date with the patches as they come, as best I'm able - though I suspect Kael will have Patch C out before I get chance to update to B (Easter Weekend - I won't be here tomorrow).

The big pestilence issue was thankfully solved in C. I think your best bet Vehem is to wait and actually play. These early patches are coming fast and furious.

Vehem, take a look in the Lore forum at the Brigid the shining thread.

are you in the least tempted?

Vehem, ready for ffh 2031 ??

PS: this is a great modmod :goodjob:

Take a look here :D

As Woodelf said - lots of patches in the early stage of any major revision so I'm just keeping it as a testing release until things settle down (and until I've had time to play a proper game using it myself - I'm relying on other people's reports at the moment), I'll move it to the top of the thread once that happens.

I`m playing your test FF031a on FFH2031c and it work correctly, only once on quick load it crashed and back to windows.

*Some* of it will work correctly, but you'll be missing a few of Kael's changes. I'll be updating to match Patch D as soon as that is released and hopefully that'll prove to be a stable version for a while so I can post it to the top of the thread.

This is just a little cosmetic thing but could you possibly make a unique desktop icon for FF? Just because I (and probs most people) see FF as an expansion pack more then a modmod and a little icon would really complete it. Maybe it could have a pic of mother on it? Or Absaroke? Wouldn't have thought it'd be too difficult.

Since you're in an in-between versions stage I thought I'd throw out a few ideas I've had to spice up some of the civs. the Dural and Chislev in particular I think could use something extra. I know Kael intentional has more 'vanilla' civs in FFH to balance out the more radical ones, so that may be why those two civs aren't as unique as the others.

All these changes are pretty major so I don't expect you to implement many (or any) of them, but if I could do any coding these are things I would do.

Archos:
I really love the flavor of these guys and I'd just like to see even more. Give Dacaraat (and any future leaders) agnostic and increase the role of the spider cult. give them unique temples and another hero. perhaps something early on the recon line like a scout or hunter, or instead a very powerful Haruspex.

Chislev:
They have the potential to have very large maintenance free empires of tribal cities. I would say reduce their maintenance even further (a unique courthouse maybe?) and cap their city size at 6 (that number would probably need some tweaking but 6 feels right). Obviously that's a huge restriction so I'd give them a few more bounses. +100% settler production and a unique settler with 3 strength but can only defend.

Dural:
This could actually be a new civ instead of a change to the Dural, but I think the picture of Dannmos is perfect, and a civ of artists and builders might come close to violating kael's 'princess rule' I see the Dural as a Neutral magic/technology centered civ. That focuses on magic and study to the detriment of all else. where in the Amurites magic is everywhere, the Dural elite are the only ones that have access in their ivory towers. they have a flat +25-50% beakers in all cities (or perhaps a -15-25% cost on all techs) and exceptionaly strong casters. (a mage UU that has a promotion [so it's carried through upgrades] that allows 2 casts per turn) and a higher number of archmages/high priests allowed. To balance this they have some combination (or all of) the following weakneses: -25% hammers, units with lowered offensive strength, no access to metal upgrades, and non-arcane units blocked from gaining exp.

Again, take all this with several large grains of salt, and great mod none-the-less.

Not too hard at all. At the most basic level, an Icon can just be a Bitmap image (though some icon formats get a lot more complicated). Any file with an extension of ".bmp" can be used as an icon - as can any Bitmap file that has its extension changed to ".ico". I've done a quick conversion of the Leaderhead buttons for each of the new races so you can choose which of them you'd like to use. Depending on your icon-size and resolution, they may look more or less pretty (with a simple BMP icon, the resizing is done by the system rather than being stored pre-rendered).

For those who haven't changed icons before;

1. Right click the shortcut you use to load Fall Further
2. Click "Change Icon..."
3. Click "Browse..."
4. Select the icon file you want to use.

HI all am back from a snow holiday. :)

Wow lots has happened I see a new FfH 2031 version is out woot!. Thanks Kael and the team.

Have downloaded it and installed patch c. All Working. Time to try it out with the changes though was just coming to grips with the spell system in 2030.

Funny thing is I tried installing FF, to the old 2030 as I really wanted to see the new civ's. As you know I could never get it to work on 2030 and had the same XML issues and couldn't get the game to load at all. Gave up. But thought I would give it a shot with the new 2031 version and downloaded the test FF. Bingo, for some reason the FF modmod works on 2031 and I can finally see the new civ's and try out the lizards along with the Dural , Chislev & Archos Civilizations. Hopefully can get some play time in this weekend and see what I have only been able to read about.

@Itambu - what language version are you using?

As far as I know I am using the English Version purchased in Australia.

Vehen
can you try an install of FF without Patch D and see if that loads at all? If it does, then try applying Patch D and checking again.

Did that and couldn't get the game to load all the XML issues :(.

However as I mentioned have it working in 2031 FfH so once I finish my current game will be trying that out and the new civ's.

Cheers all

Vehem? are you interested?

Just replied over on that thread. As Kael has said that he has plans already - I don't really want to conflict with those - by the sounds of it he's thinking of something a little bit "special" for her anyway.

Hmm - using Vista? It sounds like some files failed to overwrite the ones they should and I know Vista can cause issues with that.

I'd say change the agnostic trait on Mazatl and Cualli to something like devoted because agnostic for them isn't exactly right.

To be honest it doesn't really fit the Grigori anyway by the definition of the word.

"A-gnostic" means literally "Without Knowledge" - the belief that we really do not (and often can not) know with any certainty the nature of the metaphysical (Don't know whether there is a "God" or not).Cassiel is in a somewhat unique position to have far more knowledge than most others in creation - so it seems a little off.

Wiki on the subject.

For Cassiel, "Non-dogmatic" would probably be appropriate, and "Devoted" sounds fine for the lizards - but in the end, the mechanic is identical and wouldn't really warrant the distinction of a different name.
