Fantasy NES: Sekai

Cool. I suppose this will be a development thread then.

I came up with this. What do all of you think?

Spoiler Map of Sekai :

I like the writing and the pictures that you put on the map, but it might be important to include boarders, or are you going to overlay the map with the hexes, or make one boarder map, and this one, because i think if you put the hexes on this one it would take away from the coolness... if you made the two, that would be pretty cool. This could be like the IC map that the adventurers and such would see idk :P

Good idea. I think I'll make a territory map as well, for sure, with some clear borders.

Yes, I wanted this map to feel more Middle-earth-esque, by not having borders and having locations being more important. I guess a key would be nice too, huh. :)

Cool! I'm picturing a lot of Dorovel to be underground, so perhaps the bit you've showed could be the gates.

my thoughts exactly, i like that map alot.

also, are you going to include names for the bodies of water?

The dots are a bit disconcerting, the way they're placed right now. Borders would indeed be better.

The Gnommish kingdom of Larum shall begin in the mountains (I assume that they live far below the mountains.)

Larum
Race: Gnome
Status: Kingdom
Economy: 3200
Territories: a14, b14, b15, c15

I hope that is OK. Orders will come posthaste.

I see a problem with the warrior/rogue/ranger abilities...

There should just be plentier. That's it.

Hmm: Can I have a Dwarven City State of 'Du Farthen az Kurlan' The Father of Dwarves. Also, can a city state conquer and become a kingdom?

History: Long ago, the dwarves are normandic and traveled between outposts on theif-ridden roads, but one day, Askan, the first king, discovered a great mountain. Rallying his fellows, they constructed a fort there and managed the road between two prominent states. Eventually the dwarves discovered the use of exotic mushrooms native to the massive caldra, so they founded The Father of (unified)Dwarves.

Many city states joined the confederation, each one contributing to its power and strenght. But then, betrayal is clear.

200 years before present the Citigal of Gornkand (Kazknad az Gornkand) was touched by evil, imflaming its neighbors, they assassinated the king's clan and invaded the confederacy.

The battles are fierce, many died, eventually the Gornkandits reached Du Farthen az Kurlan and disassembled the great citigal. But then, young Haxkat and his clan, Langa, fought the Gornkandits while they're looting, driving them out, he proclaim himself as King. The Gorkanite Empire of Evil fell apart as similar youths came from the vales and liberated their fellows. Finally, 20 years before present, small states joined the confederacy again, will the Father of Dwarven States survive the test of time or will it fall to goblin raids from the north and plainsmen of the south.

(just a suggestion for history, this is the first great city state of Dwarves and is currantly rebounding, rewrite history as you wish.)

K-5 looks ok, prehaps K-6 and make it a minor kingdom with its valleys. The Gorkanites are south, Orcs and Goblins North, Humans to the East is about where they are, although anomalies occur.

EDIT: Nice map, I like it! The Ancient Halls are surrounded by newest kingdoms, will it prosper again or fall furthur into ruin?

Too "arranged", I think. I think I need to spread them so they do not look so calculated.

Charles, welcome. :) I rolled a 4 for you, so you start with an economy of 700.

I have yet to add the Rogue ones really, and the other two are still under construction. I have to touch that whole section up. I wasn't planning on starting for a couple days, so that will give me some time to think it over.

Where is your capital?

Yes, that would be good (though it still would be rather weird as long as the rest of the map is "blank").

The map will have a lot more on it once everyone claims stuff. I will also start adding the concept of "trade routes" which will create roads connecting between realms and will give your realm revenue, and make speedy travel for adventurers and such. This will add a lot more to the map as well. There are a few other NPC kingdoms I want to add besides the undead one you see there (and that kingdom will be quite powerful, it will be sort of a coalition of undead encampments and its going to cause a bunch of trouble at the beginning of the game).

Yes, roads are good. Also, barbarians with their hill forts, and dragons with their caves/nests.

I actually added a couple of caves in the map today. I also have this icon that basically looks like a hole in the ground, for some strange tunnels and monsters (where prizes lurk as well).

I just added Attack and Defense-specific skills, for Warriors and Rogues respectively (they cost less for them).

I have yet to add more Movement spells/skills for the Ranger. A lot of old character skills have been taken off.

I am trying to think up game mechanics for a possible Assassin character, but I feel like if someone wanted an Assassin they could just take a Warrior character and say its an assassin in their stories. I was thinking the Assassin would not gain a direct increase in Attack through skills, but would actually just gain the ability to reduce hit points... but then they have no effect on military units, and then it is too much like Attack.

Battle will work this way: Attack will take down Defense, and then Hit Points after that if you are a character. That is basically how it goes, which would make you think that Defense and Hit Points are one and the same - which is not the case. Usually when you are hit once, even if your defense defended you, you could still get hit points taken off - that is why they are important (it will all be random).

For the territory are the rules dependent on how much land you have?

Well, the more territory you have, the more structures you can build, because some structures can be built in several territories - namely I am thinking of roads, markets, and banks, so if you have more territory, you have more chances to up your investment chances.
