Fantasy NES: Sekai

With starting economies in the several-thousands, those kingdoms can breeze through the tech tree/spell tree in a very short time.

I've decided to play a group of adventurers who want military glory. Can their number be rolled up so I can choose bonuses, please?

I changed it so that the only roll that groups get are how many characters. Your roll was a 6, which means you get 4 characters (1/2=2, 3/4=3, 5/6=4). So you have 4 characters. Each one gets 10 xp points to divvy into their stats, and each one gets 10 spending points a week (set standard, no rolls needed).

With starting economies in the several-thousands, those kingdoms can breeze through the tech tree/spell tree in a very short time.

Only 1 tech can be researched every week (declared on Sundays). Also, that money needs to be spent towards various improvements that they need to add to their kingdom (that list will only get larger, and I want to add some that the kingdoms will have to build to keep their people happy). Those funds are also needed to maintain their armies and otherwise. They also need to buy spells for their mages. Lots of expenditures that the money needs to go to. The 1 tech per week limitation is effective as well. Kingdoms are meant to get larger, so they are meant to not have to invest that much time into researching techs.

But still, I think I will make every * you see on the tech tree for kingdoms and city-states a bit larger.

EDIT: By the way, if you have any suggestions on good numbers for what each * should be, I'd like to hear them. Here are new ones I came up with:

Spoiler :
  • 10 spending points for single characters
  • 10 spending points for parties (each character)
  • 50 gold pieces for guilds
  • 200 gold pieces for city-states
  • 400 gold pieces for kingdoms

I also just changed prices to improvements. I made them a lot more expensive.

I will take a Human City State. I am also willing to play a Human Kingdom if that will help out other players. Just choose what's preferable and do my dice roll. :)

Units should be more expensive to build and maintain as well (or your having kingdoms with hundreds of units), and some upgrades could possibly add costs further.

Well, I was thinking that each "unit" is actually a single soldier. So when you buy Infantry, you are buying a single infantry soldier. So your armies will be in the hundreds, realistically. That is the amount to hire one man... and single characters can take on one man, so it is advised that kingdoms and city-states purchase hundreds of soldiers. I should mention this.

I'm thinking we will go with these prices, and if they end up being too cheap or expensive, we can easily change the rules during the game through some divine event. :)

Justo, sounds good - I'll get your dice roll. If you prefer a city-state, then I will roll you as a city-state. If you prefer a kingdom, or find that you prefer a kingdom, take that dice roll and interpret it as if it was rolled for a kingdom - but I will assume for now that you prefer a city-state.

Justo, you rolled a 3, which means you have a starting economy of 600 as a city-state. You can also make a claim to one hex (the claims map is up now).

EDIT: I added whole new classes of spells, Necromancy and Summoning, and now Paladin's are Defense-specific, Druids are Summon-specific, and Necromancers are Necromancer-specific. Sorry to any inconvenience this may have caused the fellow that chose Paladin already.

Territory=hex?

For my advantage, I would prefer a +1 Attack for Mages, based on both the ancient Half-Elven association with magic and this particular nation's battle mage tradition that provided a much needed advantage against barbarians and foreign invaders in these dark times.

I'll take a Gnommish Kingdom.

For my advantage, can I take +to attack? I'm willing to take a Movement penalty for a higher attack bonus.

My band (all humans):

1- A warrior with 4 Points to Attack, 3 Points to Defence, 3 Points to H.P
2- A Mage with 10 points to Attack.
3- A Priest with 5 points to Defence, 5 to H.P
4- A Rouge with 4 points to Defence, 3 points to attack, 3 points to H.P

Hmm, I'd like to join as either a single character or a group, but I'd like to see what nations/city states open up first, so I can see what they'll fight for and such. also, i didn't see much of an advantage for one class or another for character classes, or maybe i just read it wrong. can rouges sneak around unseen? are warriors good with weapons and armor, but can't cast spells? are there any class-specific items, like can magic users not wear armor or wield weapons?

Here's my starting spot marked in Red. I'll take a city state thanks.

There's no template or anything so I'll make my own with some basic stuff.

Nation Name: Afuria
Race makup: Human Majority (Roughly 96%), Elven Minority (Roughly 2%), Dwarven Minority (Roughly 1%), 1% mix of other races.
Spending: 600 Points
100 Points to create 50 Infantry.
120 Points to create 40 Archers.
140 Points to create 20 Cavalry.
40 Points to create 4 Siege Weapons.
200 Points to go towards researching Transportation.
Nation Background: The Afurian people have recently banded together to defend themselves from outside threats. In recent times they have prospered which has attracted the migration of small amounts of Elves from the South Eastern Forests and Dwarves from the Northern forges. The Dwarven and Elven populations constantly get into disputes between each other due to their historical differences this has led to the Human population treating them as outcasts.

The Afurian's have fought battles with the Undead and Orcish Hordes recently however these were relatively minor. Tensions have risen in recent years as the Undead and Orcs continue to encroach closer to the Afurian City State threatening their existance.

Who will the Afurian's turn to for assistance when it is needed? The Dwarves? The Elves? Niether of them seem to want to work with each other. Perhaps the Half-Elves are willing to fight the forces of chaos and restore order to this world?

I wish to play a gnome city-state, although I am more than willing to switch to a kingdom or between races if you need more variety.

Random amazement:

Spoiler :
Ohh so technically the individual characters could meet up with the kings armies and join the battles as heroes fx? I see neverending possibilities... I could get chased by some city state army which I was unpopular with! Perhaps the Goblin state of [insert NESer name here] could find me too influental amongst the populacy and think I should be dead and therefore chase menthrough the whole of Sekai! Awesomnes.

My stats (Single character):

Name: Ragnar/lord_joakim
Race/Class: Human/Mage
Attack: 5
Defense: 1
Movement: 2
Hit points: 2

Should we also choose starting skills and eventual bonuses, inventory etc? Or is that uncalled for? And how do I get a horse for myself? :)

EDIT: Oh, and can I start in a small village inside a kingdom?

Random amazement:

Yes, I thought about something similar a while ago. I think that my Half-Elven Kingdom will be employing mercenaries and questers in general quite a lot.

If so, can the following village

EDIT: Oh, and can I start in a small village inside a kingdom?

be a generic village inside das' Half-Elven kingdom?

All of this seems fine. As for your questions, Neverwonagame, about Attack bonus, those bonuses are more for kingdoms, city-states, and guilds for their militaries, whereas you get to start out with a few stats - so you can add more to Attack as you see fit, as long as they all add up to 10 to start out with. If you get going with a good story, I am definitely one who is going to reward good stories and posting with fabulous prizes. :)

And everyone's talk about what they want to do all seems fine. About having a horse: Horse is merely fluff, so as far as I see it, if you have more than a movement of 1, you probably have a horse. Does this make sense?

Inventory, etc... your inventory, and your weapons, are all up to you guys, but you will discover that hexes have random items and various new weapons for you to pick up (that I will post about)... I will probably create a hex-post that will tell you guys what hexes are rumored to have what, but sometimes they will not have anything, or sometimes they will have what you least expected, etc. I will keep you all updated on your journies. Just give me some sort of warning, and be patient with me. :) Your beginning weapons do not alter your stats in any way, but weapons you may find might give you a straight up +1 to Attack, or maybe you'll find a special weapon that gives you +5 Attack, but docks down -4 Defense or something, like a cursed weapon... maybe you will get cursed with a weapon and then you have to go find a way so that it is not cursed... etc. You will definitely have to battle creatures... and lose characters sometimes, if that is what the dice roll... so be prepared for that.

Massive Attack, you are right - actually I think two naval units should be added, but I'll get to those in a bit.

das, that advantage seems perfectly reasonable to me.

For now, lets do some random dice rolls...

Haseri: Gnome kingdom, 3200 economy, 4 territories to begin with (3 and 1 rolled).
Fuschia: Gnome city-state, 500 economy (2 rolled).
Did I miss anyone?????

(I'm going to start telling you guys what I roll.)

Ninja Dude: Goblin kingdom, 3200 economy, 9 territories
Lord Iggy: Dwarven city-state, 500 economy
Yui108: ?
Neverwonagame3: Group of 4 adventurers
Abaddon: Human rogue
Haseri: Gnome kingdom, 3200 economy, 4 territories
das: Half-Elven kingdom, 6200 economy, 4 territories
lord joakim: Human mage
Fuschia: Gnome city-state, 500 economy
Slavic Sioux: ?
Justo: Human city-state, 600 gold economy
Massive Attack: ?
dldnjstjrp: Human priest
bestshot9: ?

First of all, welcome. Second, the advantage of classes is that they get -1* (which is a whole cost unit) to each spell or skill in their class. That means, a Druid can research into Necromancy, but it is easier for him to research into Summoning. And so on. That makes things flexible, but gives you bonuses if you work into your class (so you have to kind of think ahead in this respect). As for weapons, it is too much to micromanage weapons and armors for myself at the beginning, but as I mentioned before, I will put some weapons or special items in hexes that can be sought after by characters or even armies.

What I'm noticing now is that we have a lot of players on Order. I wanted at least one Orcish kingdom, I am glad we have a sizeable Goblin kingdom at least, that is really nice. A lot of you still haven't chosen, and by no means does this mean you have to choose one of them (besides, there is a bunch of in-fighting even between the races of Order!). Choose whatever you want.

Oh, and, for the people whose stats I have rolled - you may go ahead and stake a claim on the claims map.

Very much, thank you :)

Mounted battle mage, ready to fight the evils of the Chaos hordes!

I will join as a Dwarven City-State, Dorovel, located somewhere deep under the mountains.
