Fasting as a diet

Link to video.

According to the guys/girls in this video, people doesn't 'make up for it' in their none-fasting days.

Changing the diet to less carbs is probably another good idea. More veggies should be eaten, but it's a pain to fix nice meals every day with it...

In what way? Tastewise?

Veg is brilliant. You can eat as much as you want, it has a negligible amount of calories and is full of things your body needs.

I really overdid the sweet potatoes the other night. I was stuffed and couldn't sleep properly.

well thats a point, some like potatoes, parsnips etc are full of carbs and a few calories. not the best.

I can't see starving myself for two days a week.

Luiz's fitness formula:

-Avoid processed food (stuff that comes in a box or can);
-Eat only 3 times a day, with a light breakfast and good lunches and dinners (about 0.5 kilo of food in each);
-Run 20 minutes per day, at least 4 days per week;
-Do at least 40 minutes of weight lifting per day, at least 4 days a week.

From my experience it's impossible not to be very fit following those steps. And there's no need to be radical, sometimes I go out on vacation and stay a couple of weeks without running/weight lifting and it's all good. I also eat whatever the hell I feel like, just avoiding eating too much crap as any reasonable person should.

Increasing the fat composition should help.

That's what helped keep me feeling full when on my low-carb diet. It prevented me from eating too much.

Seems counter-intuitive that you can increase your intake of fat by a significant amount and lose weight.. but it works.

High carb diets don't satisfy real needs for fats, thus the cravings are longer and more severe.

It's not a good type of weight loss though...
You are losing muscle mass, and putting fats in your heart/etc...

Some of my very best friends are vegetables.

:lol:

Anyways, as for the OP, I have not heard very many good things about fasting. It slows down your metabolism, which is never very good.

Why would I be losing muscle mass?

As for putting fats in my heart, I'm not really sure what you mean by that.

If you eat less carbohydrates you automatically lose muscle mass?

I should have clarified.
If you eat less carbs, you will have less energy, and not be as active...

In the meanwhile, the fats/etc will start clogging up your arteries that aren't being utilized as much.

You're basically talking about the South Beach Diet... low carb.

In other words... sure, it works, but it isn't really healthy.
Starvation also works, but isn't healthy.

These articles are hardly conclusive, but why risk it?

I'd stick with the work out/eat small portions more often. I lost 50lbs in a year when I did that (I'd stopped working out after I got out of the army)... that's about a pound a week, through hard work. It has stayed off and I'm healthy.
