Yeah, it totally depends on the situation.
I drink a lot of
tap water. At work that's most of the stuff I drink, as well as when I'm just lounging around at home. I used to drink a lot of pop - but it's not good for you at all, so I have been cutting back. Water is delicious. In fact, I am drinking some right now.
I have a tradition of always buying
Fanta Orange after a long hike. And white chocolate. It started in Patagonia - at the time it wasn't very easy to find Fanta orange in my corner of Canada, and in West Germany Fanta Orange was my favourite drink. So when I found it in Chile, I went wild. It felt AMAZING after a 5 day long hike through the Andes. So now I always try to buy it right after a long hike, and every once in a while when I want something refreshing (It's a lot easier to find it for sale here now).
I will buy an occasional
Coca-cola classic for the caffeine. Some days I just
need a coke.. It usually happens during coding sessions. Once a week or so? Twice a week sometimes? I'm trying to cut down, and sometimes I'll go for weeks without, but sometimes I'll have one a day for a couple days in a row. It depends - but yeah, Coke is my guilty pleasure. It deserves an honourable mention.
My favourite sipping drink for after-work purposes is chilled
Żubrówka. It's a Polish vodka infused with sweet grass that the Bison love to eat. The result is a very smooth taste that you can easily sip from a whiskey-like glass, like a gentleman might.
For an alternative post-work happy hour beer, I do enjoy a
hoppy IPA. I love the flavour, as long as it's not overwhelming. It needs to be just right. Several brands accomplish this - but the popularity of hoppy beers is so through the roof these days, that I always seem to have something else in the fridge. So I can't give you one specific name. I also don't mind a good dark beer for the purposes of "the first post-work beer". The 3rd/4th/5th beer, if it happens, might as well be a pilsener. The taste gets lost after a couple beers, so I tone it down accordingly.
For construction work, I like to drink
pilseners, such as Pilsner Urquell, Lech, or something similar. It's a smooth beer, with taste that doesn't overwhelm - very refreshing for hard work out in the backyard.
For a hot summer day, I prefer a
German or Belgian wheat/weiss beer, such as Erdinger or .. well, anything Belgian, really. Stuff flavoured with a bit of orange is ideal. Works very well for a hot summer day.
For shots with friends, in order to celebrate an extraordinary event, mourn a depressing event, or just a "for your health" type of shot, I turn to
Luksusowa vodka,
Wyborowa vodka, or.. well, even Zubrowka. Chopin is good, as well as
Sobieski, or even Stolichnaya.
These are my favourite drinks for their appropriate occasions.
