Favorite Movie Soundtrack(s)

The scene from Cabaret where all the beer garden starts singing Tomorrow Belongs to Me is very powerful.

This may be apocryphal, but I've heard that this song seemed so authentic, people wondered if it was a genuine National Socialist song from the '20s-'30s. Nope, it was written by the composers specifically for the play, just like the rest of the songs (and the composers were both Jewish, to boot).

I agree with you about musicals, though. I don't usually think of them as having "soundtracks", because the music itself is part of the movie. I think the albums usually do say 'soundtrack' right on them, though. (Image, not a spoiler.)

According to Wikipedia thats true about the song although some far-right groups have used it as an anthem.

Yeah. Philip Glass wasn't particularly impressed when he saw the finished film, though. I think it's great; one of the finest urban/folk horror films I've seen. Glass' score gives it an almost hypnotic quality when used.

If I may add a couple very orchestral and bombastic live performances:

Interesting question for which the answer isn't a simple one. For 30 years I've thought that my favourite is the '92 version of The Last of the Mohicans but since I haven't seen that in 25 years so I may not even like it anymore.
On the other hand I'd like to separate soundtracks made for a movie from collection of existing songs used in a movie. For latter Atomic Blonde starts with Blue Monday so it's unbeatable.

It was a bit after this video came out that I figured out why it went so viral. It was one of the lessons I've learned in life about excellent music and the soul.

I love Tron Legacy, mainly just because it gives us more last bit of Daft Punk.

One of my all-time favorite movies:

A great soundtrack from its era - could only find a playlist so you'd need to search for it:

Some great original Seattle grunge, plus one of Smashing Pumpkins' great songs "Drown".

Ah..here is a good one and a good movie:

I point out this one particular piece by John Murphy, who also scored Sunshine. It's used in the great scene in "Kickass" where Big Daddy goes off on a bunch of bad guys, but I'm certain it was used in "Sunshine" as well and "28 Days Later". Here it is called "Big Daddy Kills" but the actual title is "In the House, In a Heartbeat":

"Kickass" had both a soundtrack and a score.

I love this movie no matter what anyone says, but the soundtrack is undeniably great. This piece in particular when MM leaves his daughter in order to save mankind:

I absolutely love that piece! It married so well with DDL going off and the emotional stuff around it.
