Favorite sayings/proverbs

All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also, he got a racecar.

I find it really teaches you how to live life to the fullest.
 
life sucks, get a hat

edit: i realized this saying could be seen as depressing without the context. it's a great saying when people complain about how unfair life is. life will have good moments, and life will have bad moments. life is random. the next event you encounter could be favorable or unfavorable.
"Life sucks, then you die"
I say it when someone is complaining about something they shouldn't be complaining about.

Which brings me to "don't try to influence things you don't have control over".
Don't put energy in things that you can't control. Sports people use it as "it is what it is".
 
I like Sun Tzu stuff.

That aside, I also like the one by that Roman writer that went like "All women look beautiful when the candles are blown out." Or something like that.
