I like the sharp flavor that can be found in chedder :).

Feta cheese and black olives on pita is awesome. Get some at your nearest Greek restaurant today!

Where is the Cantal ?

EDIT : Where's the Beaufort ? Where's the St Marcellin ? Where's the Maroilles ? Where's the Niolo ? Where's the Reblochon !!!!!

There's no choice in your poll !!

We can't all be from France.

I voted : Roquefort. :) Which barely means "rocks hard" in French ! (see "Starmania", the French musical)

I just like to eat a toast of Roquefort, especially when the toast is made of Harrys bread. I haven't found a more extreme way of associating US and French food !

Have you ever tried to make a burger with melted raclette cheese ? Well, it may sound weird but the result is terrific. ;)

I find it truly amazing that we can do so much with milk, bacteria, and various kinds of mould. One of the true pillars of human accomplishment-- up there with bread and spirits.
Stilton, for example. It looks absolutely revolting, especially the mouldy rind, and its odour at close range is almost unbearable-- painful, in fact. And yet, its flavour is so sublime and interesting, sharp just barely short of unpleasantness. Wonderful stuff. It's like good, bitter chocolate, come to think of it-- the pleasure lies in savouring the almost-unpleasantness of the cocoa.

I must be the only one here who has a phobia of cheese. No kiddin, I really cant be anywhere near it. If its touching some of my stuff, I feel an urge to wash it right away, and eating something polluted by cheese is totally out of question. :D

So many here are ignorant of the power and the glory that is Cheshire cheese...oh yes...

Is there another name for Muenster? If that's not an option, then I'm going for Mozzarella.

I've had Cheshire. It's pretty good, but not as interesting as others I've had.

No option for "nacho?" :p

I'm kidding. Really, I don't know, because I don't think about it. It depends on the dish. I can't eat just cheese.

Choosing a favorite cheese is like choosing a favorite limb, or favorite brain function, they are all great! I can't choose!

edit: I like Monterey Jack, if that is the same as one of the ones on the list, my vote goes to that.. mmmm.. Monterey Jack.... I want some nachos now..

edit2: according to wiki its a subtype of cheddar first made in California, hence the name.

edit3: somebody should do a similar thread but for breads instead, I would, but I lack sufficient culinary knowledge, just don't exlude sourdough ;)

edit4: Mah no reason for this edit :mischief:

Oh lord....so many!

Cheddar
Pepper Jack
Mozzerella
Provolone
Bleu
Parmesean
Gruyere
Swiss
Gouda
GOAT CHEESE!!! The soft kind
feta
Brie
Havarti
fontina
gorgonzola
limburger
farmer's cheese
camembert
this really good french buttery hard cheese.....don't know name

I can't understand stinky cheese like Limburger. Who makes this awful cheese, smells it's odor and thinks, "Success!! That's good to eat!".

The first time I was in Germany and had a sample plate of many cheeses. I picked up one type but literally could not put it in my mouth because every time it came near my nose I almost puked. Then the smell wouldn't wash off my fingers. Who eats this stuff!!??

This thread is weird. I voted Caerphilly, cos it's 8 miles from my house. I don't eat too much cheese cos it's fatty, but when I do buy some, it's normally whatever's on special offer at the supermarket, which enabled me to try a variety of cheeses, though I can't remember any of them. They were just that good.
