Lawsuit alleges Power & Light District created disturbances to eject black patrons; developer denies claim

A former security liaison and club manager at Kansas City’s downtown entertainment district has filed a lawsuit alleging that Cordish Companies and others deliberately created disturbances to eject black patrons from the district.

Cordish, the Baltimore-based developer of the district, vigorously denies the allegations.

...

Cusimano alleges he saw numerous instances of racially discriminatory practices in which African Americans were turned away from clubs more frequently or forced to wait longer in lines. He alleges that in the summer of 2012 he was ordered to employ a “rabbit,” a Caucasian male to start arguments with African Americans to get them kicked out of Power & Light. That practice, he says, was used 20 to 30 times in the summer of 2013.

Cusimano, an African American, says he was fired for no valid reason in September 2013 after Mosaic was changed from a hiphop music concept that was popular with African Americans.

“We believe Cordish set up their own ‘rabbit’ incident against Glen to trump up a reason to fire him,” said Linda S. Dickens, an attorney for Cusimano in Overland Park. “Since then, we believe his name was slandered and defamed.”

Cordish officials said Cusimano’s firing was justified and they have evidence that he assaulted a handcuffed person during the alleged “rabbit” incident. Cusimano was arrested and charged with assault by Kansas City police in connection with that incident.

In a statement, Cordish attorney Bob Fowler said the lawsuit accusations “are complete fabrications and 100 percent false.”

Fowler said that “Mosaic Nightclub had no choice but to terminate Mr. Cusimano’s employment. Mosaic will vigorously defend Mr. Cusimano’s outrageous allegations and intends to file its own counterclaims against Mr. Cusimano.”

Fowler also said Cusimano had a felony fraud conviction that he failed to disclose to Mosaic. Federal records show Cusimano pleaded guilty to wire fraud in U.S. District Court in Kansas City in June 2005 and served nine months in prison.

So basically a guy with a history of lying (fraud conviction, yo) gets fired and after the fact sues for some stuff. What do you guys think? Legit or sour grapes? Also, I've never heard of this 'rabbit' thing before, but I guess given that it has a name for it, it's a thing?

Feed your head?

Is it something to do with a rabbit? I don't get it. Never mind, I'll google it.

edit: White Rabbit?

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said;
Feed your head
Feed your head

Yeah. No.

I remember it now. I was never a fan of them, though. It's a bit meh, imo. But it is, after all, only in my opinion. And I didn't recognize the feed your head line, at all.

1967! That's a while ago.

I came here expecting either the original or the Blue Man Group cover and all I got was a hot steaming load of racism.

I could have sworn I've heard the term rabbit in this context before, but after searching around for a few minutes I can't find a link to anything relevant.

Ol' Br'er Rabbit, he mighty cunnin'.

I bet you wouldn't expect that, but the "Tales of Uncle Remus" are some of the most popular childhood vinyls among my generation in Estonia. Great translation, great voice-acting, great stories. I can still recite like several full vinyls directly from memory.

:D

I guess it entirely depends on whether he can provide evidence that he was told to hire "white rabbits", that would be entirely pivotal.

An ex-con has the same right to bring a lawsuit as anyone else. The ex-coniness will be used to impeach his credibility so it is more of an uphill climb for him.

I hope that they change the name of this supposed practice from "rabbit" to "hookah smoking caterpillar."

I don't think I even suggested he had no right to bring a suit, Jolly.

You were the one that brought the shock and awe of an ex-con bringing a lawsuit as if his ex-con status diminished the chances of something suable happening to him.

I meant voting and guns.

EDIT: Forget it. This thread isn't going anywhere anyway, so tangent it off into some stupid riff against cons getting their rights taken away if you want.

It would be cooler, but it won't be the same position, cause they called that a rabbit due to leading another to leave the place he was in (as in the white rabbit leading Alice to the other realm) :)

Iirc that caterpillar could barely move due to it's stoned disposition. So the rabbit probably led the man away from those caterpillars/human centipedes.

Hi! Welcome to your CFC jury duty.
The case is basically like this: Two people are disagreeing, one is white, one is black.
Does the jury need more information for their verdict?

Although the 'black' person himself claims that "he was forced" (the poor man) to hire whites as rabbits, to make other black people leave.
