Trump Indicted!

I'm not a guy first of, don't ever call me that again and i don't care what you think about the accuser, trump is a piece of **** towards women including his ex-wives, nevermind his links to epstein and his whole trafficking of minors and women

I'm not discussing the topic with a rational person, I'm discussing it with someone who's so deep in cult-like behaviour that they think trump of all people is fit to be in the whitehouse yet again

What do you mean by cult like behavior? You mean that I support Trump regardless of what he does, without critically analyzing his actions? I could say the same about sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome, who believe Trump has done everything he has ever been accused of (despite the absolute lack of evidence) and that every action he takes in office is the absolute worst decision ever that will destroy America (despite results being favorable to our national interest).

Trump's rape accusation is just a case of he said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said, obviously.

Yeah. Obviously.

"despite the absolute lack of evidence"

There's the bad faith, since there is evidence. He has been convicted because of evidence. The TDS are the ones who ignore anything Trump has been accused of, despite the evidence and convictions.

You what does have a lack of evidence? His claims the 2020 elections were stolen. And despite the absolute lack of evidence the TDS sufferers still claim it was stolen.

So, TDS: voting for a convicted felon rapist who tried to subvert the 2020 election because he doesn't have the decency to admit defeat and is willing to put Democracy on the line for his own ego.

"A court of law." My guy, this is the "appeal to authority" logical fallacy. I don't care what a court decided, because I looked at the evidence, or lack thereof. It's profoundly obvious that this was completely politically motivated. Anyone not named Donald Trump never would have been found liable for anything based on one person's accusation about something from 30 years ago.

And your little comments like saying women's consent means nothing to me really reflect badly on you, that you can't discuss a topic rationally without resorting to insults.

The statute of limitations in New York for sexual assault was 3 years up until 2019.

The time limit is a political decision that tries to balance the rights of victims with the rights of defendants.

The purpose and effect of statutes of limitations are to protect defendants. There are three reasons for their enactment:[7]
1) A plaintiff with a valid cause of action can pursue it with reasonable diligence.
2) By the time a stale claim is litigated, a defendant might have lost evidence necessary to disprove the claim.
3) Litigation of a long-dormant claim may result in more cruelty than justice.
In Classical Athens, a five-year statute of limitations was established for almost all cases, exceptions being such as the prosecution of non-constitutional laws (which had no limitation). Demosthenes wrote that these statutes of limitations were adopted to control "sycophants" (professional accusers).[8]

In 2019 the limit was changed to 20 years.

In 2022, the limit was removed entirely for 1 year only

In 2023 the limit reverted to 20 years.

Trump's civil case was 30 years old and he was found "liable for sexual abuse" and ordered to pay $5 million.
After some ill-chosen words, he was sued again for defamation and had to pay $83 million more!

He sued ABC for defamation for saying he was "found liable for rape".

They settled with him for $15 million.

Some have said it was a payoff to a sitting president rather than an admission of wrongdoing.
Trump has also settled a lawsuit against meta for $25 million for suspending his account after Jan. 6th.
He is also suing a network for $10 billion for election interference for the Kamala interview.
They are considering settling the case and awarding him another large cash payout.

It's open corruption. They would easily win on the merits and presumably for much,  much cheaper than they've paid out, but they want to pay off the most venal and vindictive president in history, in the hope that he'll leave them alone.

Maybe Trump will sue even more people for "settlements" :viking:

Meta said on Wednesday that it had agreed to pay President Trump $25 million to settle a 2021 lawsuit he filed over the suspension of his Facebook and Instagram accounts after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

The move was a significant concession by a major tech company and a victory for Mr. Trump, who had previously criticized social media platforms for censoring him but has lately wooed tech titans including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive.

It really is a huge difference from 4 years ago.

Musk bought Twitter in 2022.

If you put aside politics
I would need to see willingness in my conversation partner to do so, so, yeah. That's not really on the table is it?

Beep. Boop.

(criminal convictions notwithstanding)
His criminal case was bogus. He was charged with felony falsifying business records, which is only a felony in New York when done to further another crime. If he was committing another crime, then why wasn't he charged with it? It's like charging someone as a getaway driver while no bank was robbed. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?

Because in NY that is they way such cases are handled. CA law is likely different. Each state has its own way of dealing with complex legal cases. The prosecution met all the state requirements for an indictment.

His convictions are a matter of public record. Your claim that it is bogus is not, nor is it evidenced in any way.

He has really good lawyers now and is appealing it. :)

Trump’s team considered letting the lawsuit fizzle out, according to some people familiar with the matter, citing Musk’s proximity to the president and the fact that he spent $250 million to help elect him. But they ultimately moved forward with the settlement despite Trump and Musk’s close relationship.

Oh come on!

People just suddenly started writing Trump 8-figure checks right after he became President instead of fighting in court until the heat death of the universe?

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Trump didn't break any customs, any rules of legal behaviour, in his first term. They he got lawfared at, politically persecuted shamelessly. Now he's getting even, descended to that level and lower, if it is a survival fight for power what matters is winning.
It wasn't unprovoked. I'm surprised at Trump's level of courage to break the whole china shop in the process, but I shouldn't. His reaction at the assassination attempt showed that this time he really was not going to be scared. The US really is in an intra-elites civil war period. Interesting timed.

Ah yes, refusing to accept election results and organizing a coup against the government when you lose, very customary, very legal

It's really interesting how ideology can't stand up to age and generational difference. Really makes me reexamine what political theory should be about.
