[FfH II Art Team Blog]

I think he means more of a screen similar to the one above, describing the magic associated with each mana type.

Yeah thats it. Im just thinking about it from a marketing perspective.

While it would be hard to get these as the dropdown menu for selecting your Civilization in CustomGame, it shouldn't be quite as hard to get them built into the PlayNow screen (could make it the leader image for the Random Leader, though that would be fairly tiny... could also add each little button to the Leaderhead section with a new widget). It would also be fairly simple (maybe) to add them to the Pedia instead of just a list of Civ names under the Civilization Tab.

Continuing to develop some "choose your" art assets. I still think I could use a little improvement in some of the taglines and art but hopefully it will be a nice aid for new players. Its really made for the main ffh thread but it will probably go out to the website and into game loading screens when its ready too.

awesome stuff!

If anyone thinks of anything more poetic for the civ or religion descriptions let me know.

Not to question the creator, but aren't the Ljosalfar good? Or when you average in off-shoots disobedient to the good norm, like Thessa and Amelanchier, are they neutral?

Thats a good question. The Ljosalfar are neutral, as is their patron god. Arendel is the odd one among the elves in the Age of Rebirth. They were good once, but this civil war has hardened most of them.

Arendel Phaedra is good, but Thessa and Amelanchier aren't "off-shoots disobedient to the good norm," they are the norm. Arendel Phaedra clings to the old ways, but more recent generations of elves have moved on and become quite pragmatic and cynical.

Cernunnos, the current god of Nature, is not as good as Sucellus was either. He was always more violent and defensive of those close to him than his god, and I'd bet losing Gower made him grow rather cynical as well. Nature itself is not nearly as kind as it used to be.

Is it just me as I get older and/or my monitor? The style of text used for the religion descriptions looks a tad blurry.

Kingdom descriptions look great stylewise.

Tag-line ideas:

Kuriotates: Land of Diversity
(Lets the new player know they have have exotic units)

Ljosalfar: Elves of the Summer Court
Svartalfar: Elves of the Winter Court
(Maybe not as descriptive, but I think sounds a little more mysterious and interesting)

Empyrean: Wisdom and Mediation [would negotiation be a beter word here?] shall guide us
(a little more direct)

Runes of Kilmorph: These mountains have stood for ages, the land beneath them longer still
(Avoids using the passive voice and is a little more direct)

Fellowship of Leaves: We revere Nature, both the beautiful and the savage
(less is more)

Octopus Overlords: When you find yourself falling into madness. . . dive.
(I just love this saying and it fits)

@ thewyrm: The descriptor of the empyrean is mediation not meditation. Fine but imortant difference. They don't go into trance. They discuss.

I chuckled when I read that, only because I knew when I wrote it that a lot of people would read it like that. I dont know what it is about those two words but I always read it as meditation too. In fact last time I was at the courthouse (when aboard an airplane and trying to convince the stewardess to let you go to the restroom even with the seat belt light on dont use the phrase "please let me go or im going to explode") I saw a mediation room and I thought it was so cool that they had a plase you could go off to meditate.

Yeaaaahh, avoid the word "explode" at all costs on airplanes in this day and age.

It's not just you. I assume it's an issue with .jpg compression and/or the expanded size from whatever the original file dimensions were.

As far as the kingdom descriptions, my comment is that those splash screens gave me - a new player - the clearest and best understanding of what to expect in terms of play-style from a given faction. For example, I was looking for a faction strong in archery and have started several games as Amurite because the Hunter unit seemed pretty strong and available early on. Even skimming through a couple of different FfH manuals posted on this site (great looking ones too!) I still wasn't clear about which faction would be better suited for archery/ranged attacks or which faction was better suited for arcane powers. But at a single glance of those images, I was able to determine that it's Ljosalfar that I really should be trying out, and not the Amurites.

As a general comment, I love the art I see in the several user manuals, these images, most of the in-game splashes, etc. Really well done, and I'm often overly-critical when it comes to aesthetic features of a game.

@ Kael: Yea, i whouldn't have been able to spot that mistake if i whouldn't have made it myselves on first glance. Its very misleading. (and both words meanings indeed have some connection by beeing a path to calm. Is the orgin of the words even the same? As a nonnative i can't discern.)

But your are correct to a certain extent, that it does make one look twice at that point and perhaps even helps understanding what the empyrean is about. So it might not be all that bad after all...

@ Darksaber 1: Wasn't a hilirious joke about just that in end of the film parents of the bride 1? (or something like that. The english title might be different)
