Other countrie's songs/singers I thought that mattered:
- Norway (proper song: not any happy-happy-shiny-shiny major-stuff, but proper melodies in minors only  )
- Bosnia-Herzegovina actually had the best song. I think.
- Ukraine was joy to watch :) (altough being a bit shakira-lookalike, she wasn't bad at all - very cheery. And she also sang better than anyone).

I was told that the Bosnian song was good, but my heart was really with the Croatian entry, the quite astoundingly attractive Severina. Don't know if you know her background, but I was obliged to spend some time googling for her home videos before the song contest, and, without having heard the song, would state unequivocally that she clearly was the most talented of the performers....
she is talented, alright....too bad, her talent doesn't lie in singing :mischief:

Lordi ROCK!

While most of Russia is in Asia they have enough territory in Europe to cover the area of several other European countries. The border, as I learned in school a while back, being the Ural mountain range. I don't think Turkey is a stretch either, especially if you have no quarrel with counting Cyprus as part of Europe.

As for the competition, I wan't surprised by the winners. Pretty good song and in my personal top 3 or so. My favourite was Ukraine. Didn't think it would win but I thought it would end up higher than it did.

As for Sweden I believe we ended up around where we should have been. Carola is a great artist but the song was lacking in my opinion. If only we could have snuck in her 1990 entry that came 2:nd in our national qualifyer, I'm SURE it would have won. (It was called "Mitt i ett äventyr", still can't believe that didn't win at the time.)

I thought Denmark and Norway deserved better than their places. Also, while I don't like rap, I think the UK should have gotten a few more points for a pretty catchy refrain. From the semi-finals I also liked Estonia's song.

Conversely I didn't get the enthusiasm for Russia's song, didn't like Bosnia & Herzegovina's song as much as everyone else and if it was up to me Lithuania would have to pay a fine for that horrible "song". I could sing better than that and while you don't know it, that says a lot.

The ESC is held bu EBU. All members of EBU can participate in the constest. Israel, Turkey,Armenia & Cyprus are full members of EBU (as well as Lebanon, Algeria, Morocco and others). Israel's participation to ESC has therefore nothing to do with the location of the country and the boundaries of the European continent...

EDIT: Norway did indeed deserve better... much, much better

I just saw a clip of the Finns. Now I know what Orc-Klingon Fusion Rock looks like.

I've said this in another thread but well done to Finland. "Day of Rockening" & "Arockalypse"

Well Done to Greece as well for putting on a good show.

Daz Sampson is shockingly poor.

yes, lordy are only a mediocre hard-rock band, but even a downright bad hardrock band would beat the "let's-all-be-nice-to-each-other"-feelgood-bands that are usually fielded ;) and as such they fully deserved the win.

Their costumes were the best bit and the song was indeed mediocre, but yeah, even so it kicked the butts of all the other little bubblegum whiners and made watching the show about three times as much fun as it would have been otherwise. The only other reason to watch is to mock all the contestants (and listen to the commentator doing the same in a quite dry-witty way).

Next year, let's send Gorgoroth. Or maybe Hurra Torpedo.

The 3 minute (or less) rule means that very few metal bands would be able to participate, since it seems that their songs tend to be longer (infact most songs in all genres are longer).
But it would be nice to see more such groups; already not all the songs are of the same type (every year there were songs like the one Bosnia had this year).

I hope that the greek song wont be as pathetic as this year's :mischief: Although i dont know any greek group that is really a metal one; i only know of Rotting Christ, who are a sort of hard-rock group.

There is a 3 minute rule?

Good for punk bands. Good punk songs are hardly more than 2 mins.

Does this woman have a mental problem/breakdown?
From the few moments I've seen her on TV, she was phrasal "attacking" every person near her, everything was annoying to her... and I don't know WHY all these happened/started...

Did someone else annoyed her so much that her nerves got exploded?

She was just pretending to be like that.

Well, I met a girl from Iceland once. She was just like that.

'This is not plastic'.

Can I just ask what the people of Europe think about a song from their country being sung in English? I think it would be much better, in the interests of cultural exchange, if the songs were sang in the native tongue.
