he is angered by a recent action by the US. he burns a flag to show his distaste (also note he has a reason, not random burning, which i do loathe)

does he hate america or does he hate the action america took?
The way I see it, its both. He hates America and the action America took.

Why burn a flag over distaste at government actions?

The flag is the flag of the nation, its lands and its peoples, not the government. Burning the flag clearly and loudly states nothing but "I hate this land, I hate its people, and hope they all burn in hell".

and you just clearly stated that you stereotype people based on your bias.

its just a rag.

protect freedom, not a piece of cloth.

why glorify some refined cotton when doing so villinizes so many people?

And you say you have no double standards?

the only one's who oppose flag burnings are afraid of the freedom they represent.

or they're just arrogant.

I don't think that the true, the people just love the flag and don't think it should be disrespected. It isn't being arrogant or afraid of the freedom the flagburners reprsent.

The flag is a peice of cloth. It symbolizes something, yes, but in the end it is still a peice of cloth.

it cured my cancer, blindness, farsightedness, broken leg, dead grandma, bad grades, sun tan, money problems, flat foot, and hiccups.

there's magic in dem thar threads...

After you burn a $100 bill, you no longer have that particular $100 bill. After you burn a flag, you no longer have that particular flag. Whether you still have your freedom after burning a flag depends on if the state detains you. I would say you would be more likely to lose your freedom in North Korea than the United States.

If you burn a $100 bill, it means you don't care about what it symbolizes. Likewise if you burn a flag it means you don't care about what it symbolizes. The American flag symbolizes freedom and democracy, so if you burn the flag it means you don't care about freedom and democracy. Why should we offer you something that you don't care about?

If I burn a $100 bill, it means I've got money to burn. If I burn a flag, it means I've got freedom to burn.

wanna prove yourself? follow this easy method:

1. learn to mindread.
2. track down every flag burner ever.
3. prove they hate america.
4. tell us in a 435 page report.

oh, whats that? impossible to prove yourself?

Then dont put it forth as an argument, mmkay?

I wouldn't say they don't care about freedom and democracy. While the American flag symbolizes freedom and democracy the flag is the symbol of America. If the protesters thing America is going down the wrong road they should be able to burn the symbol of America.

haha, the funny thing is that this whole "worship the flag dont burn it" crap actually makes more people want to burn it.

The American flag symbolizes freedom and democracy,

That is your opinion. Things can symbolize different things for different people. Just because it symbolizes that for you doesn't mean other people see it that way.

The way I see it, you're being arrogant.

I support the burning, defacing, and defeacting, and urination upon all countires flags in general. If I want to burn my countries flag or another countries flag thats my choice and my buisness.

That is un-American, not to mention anti-American. If you hate your country so much that you wish to burn its flag, why are you even living there?

Do you think I can freely immigrate to US as you do? Hardly.
However, I think it's funny that first generation immigrants burning flag: if you don't love it, why choose it?
If, only if, I successfully move to US someday, I wouldn't burn a US flag; but I won't attack those who burn it, either.

I don't hate America. I hate its flag. It looks ugly and guady. The color scheme pains my eyes. I also hate the current administration.
And I'm not living in America. I live in India.

I dont see any problems with burning other country's flags. However, I do want to see the burning one one's home country to be illegal since I see burning your own country's flag is a sign of disrespect and being unpatriotic to your own country.
One should not be fettered from free speech by fear of being prosecuted as disruspectful and unpatriotic.

I know that at times, I say some disrespectful and unpatriotic things. I should not be restricted from doing so.

I would not support anyone burning the American flag. The things America stands for should never be symbolically destroyed, and only one that WOULD support North Korea (*looks at OP*) would enjoy it.
Way to troll.
Why do you hate freedom?

Masquerouge said:
Who is burning the flag in the OP? S. Koreans?
Yeah.

Red Stranger said:
It's not double standard if the same standards shouldn't be applied in first place. The American flag stands for freedom of expression, and if you're burning it, you're burning away that freedom. The North Korean flag stands for oppression, and by burning it, you're showing you'll no longer tolerate this oppression.
Oh please. You know dman well that many of us regard the American government (and those flag waving republicans who support it) as authoritarians who suppress freedom of speach.

I don't support North Korea. I would have thought you'd have some admiration for them though, the government seems to be achieving the authoritarianism you desire quite well.
