Flags you like and dislike.

This is, without question, the worst flag I have ever seen. A developmentally disabled tiger,...
It's a stylized tiger! :hammer:
...a blood splatter,...
That's supposed to represent a flame! :hammer:
...and two blue brains. This flag has everything.
Those are clouds! :hammer:

But yeah it does look like something that a rice farmer drew in an hour doesn't it? :D

Subservient... do you know where the five stars on Hong Kong's flag came from?

Easily confused... well, at least it's not Poland/Monaco/Indonesia, or Mali/Senegal, or Chad/Romania, Serbia/Russia, and so on.

Like it or not, Hong Kong and China are the same country. I'm not fussed on the (PR) Chinese flag either, but that's political rather than aesthetic. I'm not fussed on the Republic of China (Taiwan) flag either, again political.
All in all, the Union flag on the Australian flag ultimately makes it too complicated. And don't get me started on those 7-pointed stars!

I hate the Monaco & Indonesia split (& Poland), but we're not alone.

Anyway, Bad

But.. but what's wrong with a seven-pointed star?? Compared to, say, Nepal's...
You just love arguing don't you?

Ideally, a flag should be able to be drawn by a child (I really feel sorry for American kids, btw, you guys must get sore wrists drawing all those stars) as part of nationalist indoctrination. Apart from being ugly, the 7-point star is a nightmare to draw.

I like the shape of Nepal's flag, plus I don't have to see it every day. That is all.

At least NSW gets a couple of decent suggestions

In general, I don't like flags that feature overly complicated designs. The Virginia state flag, for instance, sucks dick because of this, as do most American state flags that feature the state seal or some variant thereof.

What is overly complicated about the Virginian flag? It's Virginia embodied as an Amazonian warrior who is stomping Tyranny's guts out. When you stop to think about it, that's pretty awesome.

I like Brazil's flag:

It's distinctive looking and more original than your standard horizontal/vertical stripes of color. The white dots are the constellations seen over Rio De Janeiro's skyline and represent the country's states.

It wasn't intentional.
After independence, the Côte d'Ivoire formed a loose alliance of West African states. The flags of these states were influenced both by the Pan-African colours first used by Ghana, and also by the model of the French Tricolour, the flag of the former colonial power. The colours chosen for the Côte d'Ivoire's flag were also used by Niger, with which the Côte d'Ivoire had an alliance. They were intended to symbolise the following: the orange colour stands for the land, the savannah found in the northern part and its fertility, the white represents peace, and the green represents hope and also the forest of the southern part of the country

I actually do like the Formosan tiger flag posted earlier. The Sami flag is good as well; I kind of like its garish-ness.

That last one just gives me the feeling of unfortunate implications.

It's just a bunch of guys who like to run around chasing a ball of an edlritch shape (if you don't get the reference you need to read more Pratchett) and getting very muddy. This bunch of guys like to dance in an intimidating fashion as well:

Because being backwards Ireland is almost as awesome as being Ireland.
Well, the Yanks used to call the Irish "white n*****s" and the blacks- who were of largely West African descent- "smoked Irish", so perhaps there's some sort of natural affinity there? ;)

Here's some I like off the top of my head.

Spoiler :
confederate_flag.jpg

Confederate States of America. I think this is an overall aesthetically pleasing flag, ignoring all the haters it has.
ly-lgflag.gif

Libya. I just find it hilarious that they actually use that as a symbol of national pride.
nunst021.gif

Indiana. I just saw this one, and thought it gave a cool affect, and it was original to this thread.
greenland-flag.gif

Greenland. I think the circle is a good way to break the plainness, and for some reason the reverse colors really catches my attention.

Flagbig.GIF

North and South Korea. I'm not sure what it is, but I think both Koreas have cool flags. Maybe United Korea could somehow combine them into one?
ar-lgflag.gif

Argentina. For those that say that children should be able to draw flags, this is your dream. Any kid can master a smiling sun!
large_flag_of_jamaica.gif

I think these colors go together really well, and it is just overall pleasing to the eye.

I don't get it. What do all the Aussies and Kiwis have against the Union Jack?
