Flying While Autistic

Normally you have to purchase alcoholic drinks and I was thinking the difference is economical. They can probably fill two or three little plastic cups half filled with ice with one can. I mean its absurd to think she could hijack a plane with a can of diet coke. Even if its for safety measures, it's idiotic of the flight attendant to respond that way.
I get a can every single time I ask for one. So does everybody else who isn't a Muslim being served by a bigoted flight attendant.

Family Kicked Off Flight After Daughter With Autism Deemed 'Disruptive'

I love the lawsuit demanding that United staff "receive training", instead of for cash.

After googling this story, there appear to be a number of cases where people have been kicked off flights for ludicrous reasons. A flight attendant for Korean Air was even kicked off a flight for "improperly" serving nuts to the daughter of the airline's CEO!

Discuss!

The Korean Air story is a bit different, in that it was a case of a spoiled brat abusing power with an employee that I've seen no evidence of misconduct being the victim. That is in stark contrast to the other examples, where the airline employees themselves are grossly mistreating passengers. Neither is good, but they're not similar examples.

A lot of whether ejecting a passenger is reasonable depends on what actually happens.

Some people wrote in the comments section that they don't. I normally don't get a can but I never specifically ask for one.

Some airlines are getting stingy, I think, because I have also heard of people not getting a full can - just a little cup - as a matter of policy. I think it tends to happen on smaller budget airlines, but don't quote me on that, I've never had this problem, have only heard about it happening to others. In the case that's being referenced, it seems like a clear example of bigotry, though.

What can also sometimes happen is they will be low on pop, so they won't want to give out full cans, in order to be able to serve everyone on board. That has never happened to me - they always seem to plan well ahead and have enough for everyone. Usually what I do is ask for a "coke, no ice please", and they just hand me a can.

On the Alitalia flight to Poland 11 or so years ago, my dad asked about beer (after the initial 'free drink' serving period was over), and we were told to feel free to raid the cabinet.. So.. Yeah.. free beer! It wasn't even warm or anything. Not super cold, but it was well within acceptable beer drinking parameters.

On my LAN flights to Chile and my Air New Zealand flight to NZ, there was free unlimited wine for the duration of the relatively long flights. I want to say that the same thing was true for my flight to Peru, but I can't exactly remember.

My favourite airline to fly with so far - Air New Zealand. The customer service on board is .. amazing. You actually feel like a human when flying, and when you land in Auckland (in my case), the agents on the ground actually joke around with you and you continue feeling like a human for the whole experience. It was so refreshing - I recommend Air New Zealand to anyone, if it's an option. You will enjoy yourself.

I found it rather interesting that the mother went on some rant about poverty, when poverty doesn't appear to be at all relevant. Why was she talking about that? Very strange. It hints at someone trying to push an agenda, but I can't really see why she would want to in this case.

I also think that a disruption is a disruption, it doesn't really matter if there's a recognised medical condition behind it or not, it makes no difference to the other passengers. It does seem somewhat of an overreaction in this case though.

The airlines have become Nazi storm troopers regarding any supposed disruption, ever since 9/11. Nobody dares talk back to a flight attendant anymore unless they want to risk becoming the next victim.

I always do. I haven't been refused yet.

I say that a lot regarding such authoritarian nonsense. It has nothing to do with Hitler and everything to do with people with way too much power and don't mind flaunting it whenever they feel like it.

Prior to 9/11 light attendants used to be the exact opposite. They had little or no power at all. They invariably had to call for a male member of the flight crew to deal with any serious disturbances. So I can see how a bit of power can now turn them into obnoxious authoritarians.
