Look out guys - they'll have explosive toys!
Explosive toys, classicThat's a pretty lame threat, and he neutralizes it himself when he admits that their NAPs are running out with all their neighbors at the same time.
I like it. We might get some valuable intel in this case.I think a good strategy here would be to say that we're concerned about their big lead, and say we need more information about their t175 plans before we can commit to anything. Who would they go after if they get the NAP, how do we fit in, what's in it for us, etc. Be honest that we don't want to make their game easier if it doesn't benefit us, so we need to know what they have to offer us in exchange for a NAP.
Hi Scooter!
Caledorn hasn't been able to participate in the ISDG too much recently, so he asked if I could help out with diplo duties. If you need any quick communication, feel free to hit me up on GTalk (or I guess it's "hangouts" now?). I also have Skype if you prefer that: victor.hinderliter.

It requires Military Traditions, which no one still have. We must check though if RB have the prerequisting technologies just to be sure.
That's excellent 2metraninja. Thanks for the chuckle this morning!
RB does sound scared. Let's keep them on their toes. Let's have them think that maybe we're waiting to swoop down on them the instant they DOW the Germans, so they keep at least some forces away from their real front. Hopefully replacing kind, trustworthy Caledorn from the diplo position and putting in an unknown (me) in his position just helps to increase their anxiety.
Then again, they probably have spies crawling through our lands observing all our new units moving towards the Spanish front. At least they aren't allowed to spend any EP's against us before our NAP expires. Hopefully this doesn't backfire on us!
Yeah, I was actually surprised how insecure he sounded.

If we can bluff them to think we would backstab them, it would mess their micro. If they start building the defence now when they don't need it for 25 or so turns, it'll cost them hammers and money they could have used much more efficiently. They anyway have more than plenty of time to prepare for the attack they know is coming. When we don't agree to extend NAP beyond turn 175 they'll know that the attack is coming. I would actually like to see if RB panics and reacts to our military buildup before we send the message based on Yossa's ideas. The disadvantage of keeping them scared is that they would prepare even better for the war with us.
This way, they will potentially be torn between trying to soften their lead (and thus the target on their back), beefing up their military to prepare for a fight, balancing offense/defense to prepare to invade Germany while being ready to withstand us (and whoever else is coming for them) and tempering their military buildup, so as not to seem like too much of a threat (which may discourage a NAP extension and encouraging a dogpile). We are aware that some of your NAPs, as well as some of ours, and many other Teams' NAPs with each other, are all expiring around the same time. To borrow from GRRM, we think that this potential "chaos is a ladder of opportunity" for us and we prefer to let as many NAPs as possible expire in order to leverage the uncertainty into the best possible situation for our team. To illustrate, our current extended NAP with you has necessitated that we give up numerous potential agreements that would have been much more lucrative.
So this time we want to take some time to see what new offers and opportunities will reveal themselves as the expiration of these many NAPs draws closer and then expire. We are confident that there will be much better offers on the table form many Teams, when the NAPs are at or near expiration. We welcome your thoughts on this.
Absolutely agree with Aivo.If we can bluff them to think we would backstab them, it would mess their micro.

This is correct too. What I think Scooter's "direct question" was about, was to get us to respond to their NAP request by either a refusal to answer or an excuse not to answer (which is obviously how they will interpret Cal's statements).
