Fox News makes an attack ad

What did they lie about though?
I just watched the video, and I didn't notice anything unfactual.

Lie? Technically nothing, but they do mislead. (Classic campaign ad.)

Although it's hard to tell because they don't give dates for the debt numbers, based on the context of the ad it seems fair to assume it's a before and after comparison (2008 or Jan 2009 vs. now). Any comparison based on those dates are going to be misleading but the worst months of the recession were right when he took office. So simultaneously 1.) income is depressed, while 2.) demands for services are increased and 3.) the obligations made by the previous administration have to be paid even though the money isn't really there (see 1 and 2). So yeah, the debt was going to go up. There was nothing that any president could have done there. But it fits into the 'big-spending liberal' narrative, so they play it up ad nauseum.

Etc.

I get what you mean, but it isn't misleading, it is fact. There's been plenty of time to fix the issues better than has been done. Obama could have raised taxes, cut spending, etc, etc... it's been mainly status quo on most issues...

If you dress up facts they can be just as misleading.

But I didn't see the ad (Ziggy@work) and I won't.

(Hint: Since 2010 Ziggy sold his soul to advertising. You'll be amazed what you can achieve by facts massage ;) )

Well, it's election season... I don't expect them to give Obama the benefit of the doubt even for a second. Who does?

I know MSNBC didn't with Bush... same difference.

At least we've gotten to the point where not a single person still tries to claim that Fox News is "fair" or "balanced".

No, they just try to claim the obvious propaganda is "factual" and "not misleading". And that all the other news sources are just as bad by conflating bias with lies and deceit.

I do, because they claim to be 'fair and balanced', and thus give the benefit of the doubt to politicians of both parties.

Well, if them not being fair and balanced upsets you...
Here's another one... The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is really a Communist state, one-man dictatorship...

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to compare Fox to the DPRK, but okay, I can see the similarities.

:D

What? Kim Jong-un is democratically elected - in fact, he has a lot more support than your pitiful presidents: 100% procent of the North Koreans support him (according to the fair and balanced voting system of the DPRK).

It's not because some tyrannical Asian state decides to meddle with the facts that everyone is allowed to do so. Either they confess they are leaning towards the right (surprise, surprise) or these kind of articles shouldn't be allowed to be published by them.

(I'm very aware what kind of 'news agency' Fox News is - but there are some people believing them, and those people should be protected from disinformation by forcing Fox to warn them their information isn't completely objective)

You are correct, the fair and balanced voting of the DPRK prevents the scandals and thievery we see in so called "democracies" like America in 2000!

Regarding protecting people from disinformation... pretty much all news agencies claim to non-partisan... and, if people are dumb enough to believe everything they hear or see on TV... well...

It reminds me of a funny post I saw on FB.
"I'm not saying to kill the stupid people. I'm saying to remove all the warning labels and let nature take its course".

It is misleading. Look at the unemployment numbers they give. It goes in one direction: up. It completely glosses over the fact that it went much higher and is now coming down.

What’s worse to you – an increasing trend upward of unemployment, as this ad suggests, or one that goes up but then starts to go down again?

I still don't consider that misleading. It is facts.
They are going to pick and choose the facts that support their cause... this is common knowledge. Still valid.

If they pick and choose the facts that support Obama doing well (as the Obama campaign will do, ignoring the other facts that don't), well... they'd be campaigning for Obama.

We've had fluctuation... true. Overall, unemployment is higher.
Also, as they point out, less people are actively in the workforce than in the last 30 years.

In the end, he's being judged on his term... not the month to month.

It's part of the bad part about being incumbent, you get judged however is most convenient. On the other hand, people have actually seen your work in action, whereas for the competitor it is (generally) a shot in the dark what you will actually be getting.

1. Formaldehyde stop living in a bubble. There are a lot of people in "flyover" country that watch fox news. They are conservative in nature. There are other news outletS that are liberal in nature.

2. I see why you don't like the job number but there are a few charts here on this site that show that Obama has had a slower recovery. Why isn't important it is the fact that he will be judged on. That is also one small part of the whole video.

3. The music wasn't that ominous.

Faux News... let another part of News International.

I take a comedien's view on the matter of US politics: the Democrats are the party of no ideas, the Republicans are the party of bad ideas.
