I believe that that is the idea.

I’m getting a lot of annoying redirect ads on mobile. Like I click on anything when I visit the site and get a new tab like in the attachment. Why does this happen? Can the admins make sure the ads on the site aren’t sketchy and spammy?

Is there a version of AdBlock for your mobile?

This popup appears (to me) to be malware. See this article about malware on mobile devices. I'll alert Thunderfall to the situation, but I think the most likely explanation for the popups is that your device is infected.

I did some googling and it looks like this pop-up is really common across the internet, even on places like NYT and Amazon. It seems to be an issue with a lot of sites’ ad networks allowing spammy advertisers to deliver annoying JavaScript user-side. So I think it’s malware on my end in the sense that safari runs the JavaScript and fails to prevent the redirects, but not in the sense that I have a virus running locally. I’m guessing you guys don’t have much control over what ad content your users are delivered and so maybe you can’t really prevent this? It seems like it’s actually Google’s fault for not preventing seedy advertisers from taking advantage of AdSense. And Safari looks vulnerable because it doesn’t manage to block these redirects even when block pop-ups is enabled, so it’s sort of Apple’s fault too.

Edit: Google seems aware of the problem and fixed it for Chrome around a year ago, but haven’t been able to prevent these advertisers from getting in AdSense in the first place. I imagine Apple is aware and perhaps they’re trying to fix it for Safari.

The draft should appear in the same thread and location in which it was originally created. However, drafts are automatically deleted after 24 hours. Please post again if this advice doesn't help.

Also remember is that the draft will be the last version recorded by the system, which will not always be the same as the one you last saw.

And if you have a draft that has a quote in one thread and you start a reply in a different thread, that quote will likely show up in the new location.

Ah, yes, Xenforo's new and improved™ quote system has these ‘features’.

How do you permanently shut off the face book recommend at the bottom of the page?
I'll click it off and it seems to shut it off but then a few minutes later it's back.
I've gone through all the settings and don't see anything but I'm old?

This is something we should have been made aware of from the get-go, so there wouldn't be so many posts lost. Can it be added to the FAQ?

You can use Ghostery to block social media icons/links (it's good for other things too, like preventing tracking - just don't disable things you'll need for the sites where you actually want to be able to comment).

I added information about drafts to the first post in this thread. I suspect that no one on the staff (except perhaps for Thunderfall) knew about it until the issue was raised here. Some of the other information in the first post (having been created as long ago as 2003) is outdated. I'll update the post as time permits.

Do you use an adblocker? You can add it as a custom block.
Not on this site since I'm a supporter.
Being in market research, I prefer not to use them whenever possible.

So does that mean there is no solution in-site? Darn

@rah - Do you sign on to Civfanatics by using a Facebook login? If so, try logging off and then logging back on without Facebook.

Thank you, Petek. :)
