Frequently Asked Questions

Yeah, after the entries in the Lore Subforum, Tolerant seems to feel like a decent fit for the Elohim, they just need some nice toys to allow them non-war methods of gaining other Cities (better culture production, or some kind of nifty bonus they can provide to a civ that gifts them a city).

what other forum? :D

anyway, I agree with Zechnophobe that Doviello ( especially ) , Malakim ( 2nd ) and Bannor ( 3rd ) would greatly benefit from some more unique features and mechanics. I don't think there should be a civ in ffh2 that feels "vanilla" , it would stand out way too much compared to the others. also, the Kuriotates need a couple tweaks ( I think that's gonna be in 0.34 ;) ) , and the Elohim too - tolerant doesn't make much sense for them imho, they're much better in FF ( I think that's gonna be in 0.34 as well ;) )

I have to admit that the recent changes to the Kuriotates has actually made them decent enough, and at the very least compelling enough, to play. The only problem is their ability to achieve victory conditions. Sure you get going well early on, but once you get your max cities... what do you do? Cultural victory every time gets pretty dang old after a while, and is so much easier than any other peaceful victories for them, it isn't funny.

there were a couple threads about the Kurios going on like a week ago, lots of nice ideas in there and Kael was interested. the biggest problem seemed to be their inability to wage intercontinental wars without wasting a supercity on useless coastal tiles, so I guess they're gonna get some nifty toy in 0.34 ... personally I'm hoping for a flying transport :D

You could take philo and go altar. Big cities make that easier as well. Domination is possible if you want as well, no reason not to go offensive if you like.

Go on the offensive, but focus on taking cities on different continents, so you can liberate them as colonies.

1) Altar: Requires you to go down the entire tech tree to get. All religion, all wizard, all recon lines. Culture requires what... mercantilism as the most expensive tech? And then it's basically just the end of the econ line... which is more conducive to research anyway.

2) Domination? That's madness! (Please no Sparta references ;P ). 3 cities can barely output the unit count to run a successful offensive, trying to also defend those cities from attacks would require even more. It just isn't a realistic goal.

I'm really looking for a good alternative to Cultural victory on Emperor or Immortal difficulties, not Noble or Prince.

I guess I've always felt that if you play the Kurio's, you go for a culture victory. I don't play as much as you guys -- if you play random leaders you just won't get them that often.

So, my view is that I get the Kurios about 4-5% of the time. I rarely go for cultural victories with other leaders in FfH, so I think they are fine with victory conditions, they are a culture powerhosue with other types of victory being a handcap.

I do agree, though, that the coastal issue can be important, it is hard to waste a sprawling city on a coast. Maybe they can be given some special builds like the Maoi Statues of the dykes. (Sorry if they already have them!)

In the main game, I pretty much always go for a culture victory with Gandhi or the Chinese leaders.

Aren't a lot of Civ's tied to a 'best' victory condition, especially in FfH? If you are the Clan or the Doviello, I would think that your future lies in conquest.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Well, I meant domination in the sense of almost conquest, rather than in the sense of great expansion.
I never use great numbers of troops when I play anyway. Just take your foes out one at a time, take vassals when you can, use allies when you can, etc. A handful of high level units and some back up will do fine.
And anyway, a super city should be able to produce a champion every few turns, right? At least as much as two cities.

The Kurios are actually pretty good at just holding territory, especially if they're relatively peaceful. Take on the baddies one at a time with a few elite units (don't need a huge army), keep a few settlers and build Settlements as you go. Because Settlements have no maintenence costs, the only things you pay for are the garrisons... which you'll hopefully never need, since you'll never be defending. BOOM - Domination victory.

Hey, Cool Mod Guys

I've just downloaded the new 0.33 version. Very nice. I played the Somnium against the first AI I found -- and lost ten in a row, before I finailly won one. I thought it looked simple, but there is a surprisingly large amount of strategy in the limited rules.

Then I found the scenario submenu and almost kissed the computer. I loved the Age of Ice scenario embedded in BTS, and replayed it all the way up though deity.

But how do you get these scenarios to run?
Are they still a work in progress?

What can I do to remove the Flash animation banners from the Top AND Bottom of this forum?

I hate to say it, but sometimes my bandwidth slows to a crawl and these blinking UGO ad banners I'm getting aren't helping.

I have the Mozilla add-on AdBlock, but it doesn't work with the animations.

Thank you.

You don't use NoScript? Doesn't block ads per se but will (if you want it to) automaticly block flash from all sites except those you choose to allow.

never mind, it was answered (asking about the scenarios)

but, in older versions, my heroes occasionally tried to go on "adventures." what was that? I never got anything, so was that starting a scenario?
