Im assuming by the build date and current date in the game, that it actually places both lighouses somewhere in the water but as the city gets bigger it gets shoved out into nothingness?

IIRC that is a issue related with some graph cards older software. Try to update your graph card drivers.

A human player can do that easily enough by trading with everyone and not gifting anything, but I'm pretty impressed that an AI managed it.

Go to the options screens, choose graphics, turn off anti-aliasing (set it to 0). If you are using a Mac, this will definitely fix the problem (known bug in CIV). If you are using a windows machine, try it anyway, it may work for your graphics card.

I see the map. It looks pretty good to me. Loads of food. However, what is the little green triangle face icon next to the log icon in the upper left? (And what mod makes it?)
