Did you solve the answer? Your answer is 17+1=18. If that was the knights formula..

I think what adam refers to, is the 18 knights suddenly appears out of nowhere, which must be some kind of magic, which would require a witch
(I could be wrong though)

I forgot the +1 on the formula and edited after adam posted, so the 34/2+1=18 is right.
