GameNES: Insert Credit

[William throws away the magazine]

WILLIAMS: No mention! Not even a parapgraph! We must change it!

LEAD PROGRAMMER: But how?

WILLIAMS: Easy. Have the game (or a least a demo) out by next shipping season.

LEAD PROGRAMMER: Yes sir.

FRENCHMAN: [French]Look! I see British![/French]

(Out of the fog created by rain, one redocat appears. 2. 10. 100. 1000. A huge force is storming out against the fortress. Cannons fire. Walls crumble. A grenaider is caught under rubble and falls. At the end of the video, the General of the French is led out by Redcoats.)

Dreamsoft Studios Announcement:

Just yesterday, an unknown member of staff, most likely a tester or a programmer, released the alpha stage of the tutorial and part of the first level, in which Austria-Hungary invades Serbia. This breach of security will not be tolerated, especially since other game companies could act upon this. We have formally complained and convinced the file-sharing site (Which will remain anonymous) to take the alpha down, but it was already downloaded 80 times. We will keep on searching for the suspect. Luckily, this alpha stage had many bugs, and is still not fine-tuned, so it probably won't be as bad as say, the whole game was leaked. We will however, formally release a demo, and will start pre-orders, once our game has reached beta stage.

wow lucky, that is very impressive!!! All the graphics and text looked great.

I'll have to organise some cash to get some coverage if you're doing this style again :)

Wowzers Lucky. That was unique. I like how the Q&A was longer than the cover story. Yeah!

Smorgasborg

"ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!" shouted Mr. Williams, as his secretary brought him the magazine. "This is great. So much hype so soon. Call a dev meeting. I want the writers there, I want Marketing there, I want legal there, I want the coders there, HELL I want the testers there!"

"Right away sir"

*****

An assortment of people sat around a table with powdered donuts, smiling and laughing. CW Inc. was a funny group, and there was certainly plenty to be happy about. But Business was Business so Mr. Williams got down to it.

"Well, you all know that we're coming up now. A group of friends who started a gaming company and is now high-profile and high-grossing. A truly great story. It would make for a lame movie. Now then, we can't rest on our laurels though. Writing Team, what's your status?"

"Well, Will, we're putting some final touches on School Warz, and Nothomework is almost complete. We'll put the finishing touches on if we get the green light from you."

"That's perfect. Just a reminder, I want that brainstorm list of games on my desk by the end of the week. Now what about you, Marketing?"

"Well, as you saw, Insert Credit was a great sucess, and once School Warz nears completion, we have a bunch of commercials hyping it up to run. Also, we've succeeded in placating the SS *laughter at the nickname of the Safe Schools Lobby* by pointing out that this game is a for fun game that will bring culture to their kids and that it doesn't include guns. There will of course still be some controversy, but that is to be expected. We're also discouraging comparison to Bully. It was a good game but it fell short of its potential."

"Very nice, keep it up. Legal?"

"Well, as you directed, we're ratcheting up our lobby to remove the One Game, One Quarter Act of 2008. The anti-video game lobby, lead by that dreadful Hillary Clinton-always angry since she lost the Democrat's nomination-and her anti-XYi[1] minions are facing increasing heat from the public. We're also thinking of challenging the law in court if we can't get legislation past. Even an up to two games a quarter would be preferable."

"Right you are. Now, how are we doing in the Project Lit?"

"Relatively well. The Public Domain ones were easily secured, and we're in very secret negotiations with the others."

"Good. Coders, how's progress?"

"It's coming good. We've got the base code done for School Warz, and the procedural generation modules are very promising, and are working in Alpha testing."

"Perfect. Now then, I think this meeting can be adjourned? Any questions?"

One of the testers raised his hand, "Sir, why we're we called here? The Testers weren't even addressed!"

"Why, it was your day to bring the donuts"

Wowzers Lucky. That was unique. I like how the Q&A was longer than the cover story. Yeah!

Thank you both. I think I will continue this style. Making them longer each time until it gets to the point where it takes me a solid week to make the whole thing.

Sorry to everyone about advertisements. I promise to add them next time. Along with a table of contents, rumors sections, extended previews and reviews. And maybe if you people are creative enough. Cheat section for the consoles. :p

In a little while I will add in the text for the other things not mentioned and do stats. No body feel upset ok. Not everyone gets in magazines right away.

I am pretty sure I have everything updated now. I will be changing the rules to the lines of those new rules I made up. I think I have all the exclusives right and stats right. I added market share to the console index.

Moose - two complaints - no ads in the magazine, and also my game is 0/4 instead of 2/4

otherwise, great update

Endless Games Inc. Staff Meeting - Worldwide Warfare Development

“…so as I was saying, the reason you have all been called here is to discuss ideas for features for the game.”
«We need a strong AI so it doesn’t take a second of planning to conquer the world.»
‘But that alienates the younger or less proficient gamers, a market that we already said we were expanding to’
«OK then, so different difficulties of AI. Still, even the lowest one shouldn’t be too easy. We can have the lowest AI start at a difficulty of 1. They have basic planning, weak-medium economies, and bad fighters.»
‘Then any player who is Luxembourg or Switzerland can conquer the world in a second.’
“Not if we put in a population-derived army cap,”
«Not a bad idea.»
‘I like that better. Also, we need something to slow people down, like rebels or something.’
«So you say you want a revolution?»
‘No. Oh wait, I mean yes. That’s perfect. That way you can’t devote all of your forces to attacking, and have to keep a group of soldiers to pacify all conquered areas that are still rebellious. Maybe we can have a contentment stat, from 0-10, on how much they’d rebel.’
“Keep it hidden. Have 1-10 in the programming, but a simple High-Medium-Low in the game so they are never sure, and have to plan for it both ways.”
«What about alliances? I mean no nation is that militaristic to conquer the world without any allies and actually succeed.»
“OK, add a diplomacy feature. It should be easy to get allies at first, hard once you’ve gone to war a few times, and then easy once you are powerful enough that nations fear you.”
‘Make sure the AI can negotiate alliances too’
“And secret ones at the higher levels!”
«Science?»
‘Nah, too complicated. All nations get the same things at the same time. It should happen randomly too. It should be affected by your budget though.’
«I still think you should be able to choose the direction you go in… Planes, bombs, guns that shoot around corners…»
‘They have those already.’
«Whatever. The whole world doesn’t, so you should be able to research them.»
‘I already said no to that.’
«You aren’t the only programmer here»
“That’s enough for today. No science tech tree. Random but player influenced discoveries. Now go. Now.”

OOC:Hey Lucky, Can we change the rule on starting X games in one turn from one to either infinite or two?

:)

Thanks for the best game award, does that mean i get $5,000?

IC: To: Digi Forge
From: CW Inc.

Our offer to produce Nothomework for Takk is still on the table.

Zabriskie Entertainment Headquarters;

Yet another crowd has gathered waiting to hear what Zabriskie Entertainment is up to. Several have heard rumors that Zabriskie Entertainment has bought out some games, yet others claim they have created another console, many just stayed quiet but filled with anticipation.

Finally after what seems like hours, John Zabriskie stepped out and walked up to the microphones, "Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and girls, Zabriskie Entertainment is proud to announce the following; we have bought the exclusive rights to World War One: The Great War from Dreamsoft Studios, Worldwide Warfare from Endless Games Inc, and finally Redcoat from Commonwealth Games. These games will be made only for the Pheonix system, no other system may or can play these games. Zabriskie Entertainment would like to thank Dreamsoft Studios, Endless Games Inc, and Commonwealth Games for these fantastic games and looks foward to working with you in the future."

John Zabriskie waved and walked back into the building, while the crowd cheered and mingled among themselves.

No you get what I say you get. Infinite Games? Are you crazy? I would be swamped.

In other words......maybe.

Dreamsoft Studios would like to formally announce, we have completed the game, World War One: The Great War. However, we will root out any bugs or other crap, and will now accept pre-orders.

Demo Play:

You may play the tutorial, and the first mission.

There are three minutes of cinematics ALONE in the first level, without the intro movie. The invasion begins in a few small villages, before a huge battle is fought near Sarajevo. Explosions and other stuff galore.

The file is 4 GB, the demo that is.

Good Morning

"I know a way we can make a lot of money."
"How? And this better not be illegal."
"So no bootlegging? I'm just kidding."
"Even about money making part?"
"No. I'm actually serious this time. Check out my super consultanting skills."
"Ok, go ahead."
"Well, after GENOA, let's make three more games for each service of the military: Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corp. And if we have extra time and money, maybe even Coast Guard!"
"Actually, that's a good idea. Not the Coast Guard part though. It won't be 'exciting'; you know... guarding coasts."
"Then we'll have to change the title of GENOA or make a series title. Hm... how about: Masters of War?"
"Sounds kind of corny, but people like corny. Great."
"Does that mean we'll get that buffalo wings?"
"IF they sell. And besides, you can get them any time you want."
"But there's a difference. Free foods taste better."
"You know. Those free icecreams are coming of our pockets?"
"But it doesn't feel like it when Silas does all the shopping."

- New Hayden Games Survey: "#1: What genre of games do you want to see more from us?..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a typical day for Isaac Hayden. He got up from the bed and looked at the clock. 6:15 AM. After washing up in the bathroom, he got dressed into a simple grey suit to go to work before breakfast. The drive wasn't long, about fifteen minutes drive, and it was Sunday. Good day, he thought.

By the time he arrived at the company building, it was 8:23 AM. He would stay there until 11:24 PM. Lots of work to do. He looked up. Someone opened the third story window. The employee saw him and shouted, "Good morning, sir!" and he simply nodded back. In fact, it was pretty hot for that time of the year. Well, they had icecream inside.

The headquarter of Hayden Games wasn't small, but it wasn't huge either. He'd seen Karui Kiba's and Digi Forge's. Big buildings they were. Hayden Games, was located in a small city, in relatively small, but large enough, four story building. Raith said it was to cut down on rent. He didn't mind, but he made a self-note to not let Raith do real estate for him in the future. It was getting crowded in there with thirty-eight people working side everyday.

He looked around, and saw children playing in the streets. I wonder if they'll play my games and get low grades in school, he mused. He had never thought about that before. And the chances were, that he probably will be right. He used to play video games before, and he knew.

As he entered the building, he was greeted by few employees and a new face, he was the new intern employeed only few days ago. 'Randy, was it?' he thought.

"Good morning, Mr. Hayden," they said.

"Morning, guys," he replied. He never added the word "Good" before "morning" unless the day was absolutely nice or after a hard night of work. That was "Good morning", which today was not. He gave one of them pat on the back and proceeded to his office. He was a little drowsy, so he went to get some icecream.

After he was back in his office, he opened the blinds on the window and saw the sun in the sky. A large cloud was just passing the sun and its edge reduced the blinding sun light, just enough so he could see its contour. 'Hm, the sun really is round!' he thought, 'I should probably go buy some buffalo wings today.'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The old - no, it was just old-looking, and that's what he paid the store for - grandfather clock indicated 12:17 PM. Lunch time. And he was just on time. Only twelve minutes ago, the delivery guy from the chicken store arrived with twenty large containers of buffalo wings. Great; now they had icecream AND buffalo wings. What more could they ask? Perhaps some cookies, but that'll come later, after Ferret Wars is released.

The reporter visits were frequent. They didn't have much to say every time, but they were constantly coming. Because of free icecream, he thought. But he didn't mind. There were plenty. An entire grand on icecream bought enough for few months - of course, with Nathan's hook ups. But this time, they came for The Eight Ocean.

"Do you have any predictions on when it will be released?" the young reporter from a local magazine asked.

"Well," started Isaac, "I cannot say for sure, since that project is 'on-hold', but we will promise its release sometime in the next Christmas."

"Now you have 3 projects going on," he said - but that wasn't true; the game was on-hold, "How will you manage to catch all three rabbits?"

"I expect to finish Ferret Wars quite soon, and we are working on GENOA pretty slow but steady. No, I do not mean slow as in dragging, but rather as to say that GENOA project is not rushed. Ferret Wars, however, is, or at least will be. I will invest substantial amount of money to speed up its production, so we can work on more games. So, it's not really three projects we're working on simutaneously. And do not worry about their quality, we will ensure their excellence."

After several more questions, the reporter got some icecream and buffalo wings before he left. And as he left, Isaac got some himself and went back into his office to finish his lunch, but rest of the employees, being a nerd they were, ate in front of the computer, working. He'd told them not to do that, but they insisted that they worked better that way. Isaac solved the problem by making them buy their own keyboards and mouse. However, the buffalo wings were off-limits from the computers and were allowed only during chow.

Isaac called the travel agency and bought three air plane tickets to Japan. He'll have to go see Miss Aiko again to talk about the new Masters of War series and possible aids from Karui Kiba for the project. He could have written a letter but Raith insisted on it becoming an unofficial vacation, although his support was more of an "educational" trip to learn more about video games industry. No doubt he'll hit the arcade first thing off the airport. Nevertheless, he'd made sure to let Aiko's secretary know. Someone by the name of Kenta. High-context culture, Isaac noted.
