We still have 11 turns to go on a deal with Germany. Can we afford to wait that long? Can we afford to break that deal?

Ugh, what a painful choice. We can hardly afford to dynamite our reputation with so much work still to do, so I suppose we have to wait. In the best case, the Germans won't get iron hooked up to their empire as a whole in eleven turns (even if they connect it to Cologne), and they'll continue moving their archer stacks northwest towards Novgorod. (EDIT: Though even the AI will probably get the iron connected to Nuremberg's harbour, I realize.)

don't need to get too hung-up on exact RCP distances, due to the rank corruption bug

In principle, yes. However, Moscow and the cities around it are very well placed for RCP purposes, but at RCP distance five. Won't it be difficult to arrange a palace jump to a location where the palace's first-ring cities are farther away than that?

Maybe the better option is to jump the palace to moscow, and then put the FP wherever we choose (Berlin is nice this time of year! :D)

First of all THE SAVE

pre-turn err, 150BC turn 1, most units still have movement.
Move the Stack to Yakutsk.
Found Gandaetaigon, start Temple.
Kill Russian Warrior with Elite Mounty, no luck.

IT
Russia and Germany sign peace.....! Hmm, the German Archers keep moving North...
Romans start Leo's.

130BC - turn 2
Try to lure the stack-ette of three Russian Archer to some undefended Workers.
Moves Mounties into place to take Yakutsk.
Upgrade Mounty on a Spear in Novgrod.
Ahhh, now I see what the Galley was for. I'll settle on the Hills to takes the Whale after growth.
Remove Our Elites from Smolensk. To high a flip risk, hopefully the Germans won't take this as an open invitation. Although this would quickly solve or trade breaking dilemma...

IT
The Germans don't take the bait, they even avoid walking our territory and take the long route!
The Russian Archers attack, but 1 is killed and in the other 2 cases the Mouties retreat.

110BC - turn 3
Take Yakutsk without losses, the capital moves to Novogrod. It has grown to size 2.
Russia will now give Engineering, Feudalism, Sverdolovsk, Rostov and Kharkov.
9 turns to go on our deal with Germany. I take the deal.
We can get Monotheism from Japan for Feudalism and Spices.

I leave it here folks, this is all I got time for this round, sorry. :(

OK, thanks for doing what you could.

Ainwood, can you play now? KB, if he can't, you're up.

Ok, I do have time, got it.

EDIT- I would play, but the link does't work for the save, no luck searching through uploads folders.

Preturn- We look good. I execute the deal with Japan and we have Mono.

IT- Rome demands spices. Seeing as our colony cities would be quickly ravaged, I begrudgingly submit.

T1 90 BC

I decide to make some uses of our extra spices and get wines from England for spices and 150g. I use a mounty to block a German archer, hoping they will divert into our territory.

IT- Germans are too polite, go around.

T2 70

I found Ganogeh and Gayagaahe. First German Longbow spotted.

IT- Blockade works this time, Germans reverse and a stack ends up in our territory.

T3 50

I decide to take a risk and see if I can get the Germans to declare by booting them. The damn bastard actually complies, saying that I've become testy recently

I also rush a harbor in Chondote with our GA income.

IT- Two English horses move next to Chondote with another on its way. I wonder if they're here to pay us back for stealing the silks?

T4 30

No tmuch to do. Will see if the English declare on the IT.

IT- English ride past, someone else is going to get it.

T5 10

I set up an even more extensive blockade, now they must enter our territory or fortify.

IT- I finally figure out that the Persian immortals streaming through our land are going to meet the English. How pleasant :D

T6 10 AD

I boot Bizzy again , and he moves.

IT- Germans move north.

T7 30

Not much to do. Notice Roman Legions coming towards Chondote. They aren't at war with anyone.

IT- Rome moves closer with two legions next to the city.

T8 50

Not much to do again. We can go to war with Germany next turn.

IT- Rome declares war on us. First legion dies, second kills a spear. We have walls next turn, but one spear holding off all their legions seems improbable.

T9 70

Our deal is done with Germany, so time fror war. We declare and move in on Sevastopol, defended by a vet pike :vomit:
First mountie wins and promotes, Second beats another pike and takes the city.

IT- First legin captures Chondote. They also torch Rostov. Our GA ends.

T10 90

I move a stack of 8 mounties next to Minsk. The German archer army is right there to, so we might lose a mounty or two on the IT. I also have 8 or so mounties in the north to deal with the German archer stack.

Summary

Rome may blow away our crap southen cities, but we're making up for it by taking it to the Germans. Well, so far anyway. They have the iron obviously hooked up, but I think they'll probably end up building longbows instead of swords now, which is nice as longbows are easier to kill. Chivalry is out and about, it wouldn't be a bad thing to pick it up eventually. Converting 45 mounties into 45 knights would spell bad news for Persia anad Egypt.

Wow KB, sounds like a fun and well played set! :goodjob:
Chondote was my fault of course, but it would be a pity to lose many cities no matter how poor. We need them all for 100K.

Nice start against Germany, KB. :goodjob:

We need to cash-rush Kharkov's spearman before pressing Enter, or the nearby German spearman will be able to walk right in.

I'd switch Grand River's build to a settler, also before hitting Enter, since the town's food box is full.

Assuming we're able to take Minsk, it shouldn't be too hard to disconnect Germany's iron.

I haven't started travelling yet, but I can't do justice to this complex situation in the time I have remaining. So, Bed Head, you're up unless Ainwood indicates that he wants to step in.

No, never mind. Have you even played yet? I can't remember. I haven't started it, so go ahead and take it.

I'll be out of touch for the next three and a half weeks. I'll check back in on March 3 or 4.

Good luck. I expect the rest of you to play enough that I miss a round. :nono:
